I had the same problem! For the past year or so I've been desperately trying to lose weight. I never "felt hungry" and would consume about 800 cal/day. Where friends would eat a huge greasy plate of food and be tiny... I would be picking at a side salad without dressing, a good 20-30 pounds overweight. It was soooo very frustrating! Long story aside, I have recently increased my calorie intake to about 1300-1400 cal/day. I have to push myself to eat breakfast and snack throughout the day. In this past week alone I've already lost three pounds! It is so true that you need to eat to lose! I have been aiming to have a 700-1000 cal defecit each day for the past two weeks. Where before I would feel full and not at all interested in eating, I now start to feel hunger pains when I haven't eaten for a few hours. I'm not saying that I have it all down... I'm still having to push to get my calories where they should be. Maybe just set a goal... Two weeks of calorie counting with a minimum of 1200 calories... See what happens... Oh, I think the best piece of advice I got on CC regarding this was that if I still don't feel hungry, but I have a huge defecit, try eating a (good) high calorie food... I've used Avocado, Almonds, etc... Hope this helped! Good luck! |

Ugg! I was down to 150 earlier this week, but had a girls night with some friends and training for work so I ate more and exercised less the second half of the week... Weight as of today could be from excess water retention... (fingers crossed?!?!?!) CW: 152 Good luck everyone! |

Hey everyone! Just checking in :) I weighed myself today and got excited! I'm now at 151. down 2 lbs, 18lbs to go :( It's all about the little steps Anyway, I had to have a biopsy done on one of the moles on my arm today. It was ok during the procedure, but now it hurts (now that the pain meds wore off :p) My doctor is concerned about skin cancer. I wouldn't be suprised. I am most definitely one of those typical California girls who loves to get some sun... Well hope you girls have a good week! I'm going to take tomorrow off of counting since I will be training for a research project that I'm working on and it's all day long... bleh! I will probably just grab some lunch on campus with a friend. Again, good luck!!! |

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input... After realizing the amount of sugar I've been consuming, I have tried to cut down on my fruit intake. It will take a bit of adjustment I'm sure, but I'm serious about losing this weight! I guess I never realized how much sugar was actually in fruit! Thanks again! |

Drink LOTS of water! Go in your bedroom, close the door and just relax for 10 min or so... giving yourself time to de-stress will help ease the tension. I get stress migraines a lot and I find that if I just let myself relax it really helps... maybe not taking the migraine away but at least reducing it to a headache. Hope you feel better! Olivia - Thanks! Sorry if I rambled in that last posting... I was a bit high on life :) Congrats on your weight!!! So exciting! Lillysmominpa - Hey there! You can do this!!! I too have a hard time making myself eat breakfast... I'm never hungry when I wake up and I'd way rather sleep an extra half hour than get up and make myself food when I'm not hungry. I've found that if i slowly drink my coffee while checking my email and getting ready for the morning and then make breakfast I'm generally starting to get a bit hungry by that time. Maybe this will help? Congrats on the size 9!!! Good luck everyone!!! |

URGGGGG!!! I just got back from the gym and I'm still 153... What's going on??? I ate well (at or just below daily recommendations) ran 4 days, biked to school 3 days and I still lost no weight? Frustrating to say the least! New goal: lose 2 pounds by next week... Congrats to everyone for making it past the first week!!! Keep up the hard work! |

Whatever - Glad to hear the headaches are gone... I was laid up all of last weekend with a migraine that hurt so bad I was throwing up and seeing spots :( They suck! On a lighter note... I feel SOOOO good right now! I had a crappy day at work, so my best friend and I decided we needed a girls night. Instead of going to coldstone and getting a huge ice cream and watching a movie (which we seriously deliberated), we walked downtown to Farmers market and got some fresh produce and then decided we would go dancing... OMG!!! I had sooooo much fun! I started the evening feeling so bloated and gross (still that time of the month) but as the night went on my friends were all laughing at me... I was such a flirt tonight and had an amazing time of it! One guy asked for my number, another said he'd see me again next week and I danced half the night with another... :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) Oh it was fun!!! Now I entered all the time in that I was dancing and I burned so many calories while having a great time! Definitely a good night overall! Anyway, I better get some sleep if I want to be on time for work tomorrow. Good luck girls! Talk to you all soon! |

phat83 - Good luck at bootcamp! I've actually been reading a lot about coffee lately because I feel like I just HAVE to have a cup before I'm fully awake most mornings... According to what I've read it's ok to have 1-2 cups/day. It actually boosts your metabolism by about 8%! It also has a lot of and antioxidents if you drink it within the first hour it's brewed. If you need more caffeine than that, I've read that drinking brewed green tea will also help with the metabolism (increasing it by about 12%) as well as containing a LOT minerals of antioxidents. Just a quick update: I think this just might work! I ate 1260 calories today (with a target of 1300)... I'm sooo excited! This is the first day this week I haven't splurged and gotten to something like 1600-1700 cal! Thanks you guys! |

bonjour - Ha ha! I love the "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels"!!! It's also a good idea to have a note reminding me that I should wait five or ten minutes to see if I'm hungry... Thanks! ankow - Thanks! I'll be sure to put some of those around! sam - Thanks for the advice, I purchase all my food so it's not so much that there's junk food in my cupboard it's just that I tend to eat a lot of stuff, even when I'm not hungry... It's my way to avoid that homework or work assignment or cleaning my room, so I go grab a handful of almonds or a cup of grapes or ... you get the point! By themselves these things are really good, but not when they're consumed in large quantities and together. Good luck with your family! Well, I think this will be good! I already went out to the kitchen once and opened my cupboard... what did I find but a reminder that I should not mindlessly eat... Now I am waiting til I'm hungry enough to make a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, thanks guys! |

Phat83 - Congrats on the new job! Thanks for the info about WW... I went to a meeting with my roomie and part of me wanted to laugh at these women as they raised their hands to offer ideas about what encourages them through the week in exchange for a "gold star" sticker. But another part of me thought it was really neat that they had each other to hold themselves accountable and pick them back up... I don't know if I'm going to join yet, finances are kinda tight right now so it depends on what happens with that. Lilysmominpa - Congrats on your weight loss!!! Of course we're not going to kick you out :) Good luck in losing your last few pounds! Okay well I am determined to do really well this week. I binged the last few days as it's that time of the month :( I'm going to the gym later today but I'm dreading getting on that scale!!! I can't seem to get over this habit of binging the last few weeks. I'll do really well for about 4-5 days and then have 2-3 days of binging. I don't necessarily eat junk food, just lots of food. Like Friday, I ate a good breakfast, and lunch and then in the afternoon it got out of control! I couldn't stop eating... popcorn, fruits, a smoothie that I made, I ate sooo much and the problem was that it was all halfway ok if I had eaten just that or in small amounts... my way of justification was that it was healthy foods and if I was craving it I probably needed it. Anyway, I'm done with all that and I'm determined to lose my 2 pounds this week. I'm going to go to the gym at least 3 days this week, jog outside at least 3 days this week and tonight I'm going to hike up a local mountain with a couple friends and we're going to watch that meteor shower that's supposed to be happening really early tomorrow morning. Should be fun :p Any support or encouragement throughout the week would be greatly appreciated... Thanks! Good luck to you girls!!! |

Whatever07 - Boy do I know that feeling! When I go home my mom wants to cook all my favorite foods and friends want to go to lunch or coffee or dessert... it's soooo easy to binge and so very hard to stay on track. Thankfully (or not, depending on which way you look at it), I live about 6 hours away from home and only get to go home about once a quarter for a short weekend. All I've got to say is GOOD LUCK! Stay strong and document everything you eat, it makes you realize where you're at through the day. To answer your question: I usually go for a run at least 4 days a week, bike to school two days a week and then try to get in to the gym for weights 2-3 times/week. Oh and thanks for the WW info, my roomie says it's about $10/week... I don't know, I'm going to have to think about it. Have fun at home! |

Hey girls! So I'm curious to see what your opinions about the weight watchers program is. My roomie is currently on weight watchers and in 3 months has lost 28 pounds. She absolutely loves it and wants me to join so we can support each other. I am going to a support meeting tomorrow to see what it's all about... any thoughts one way or another? Has anyone been and know how it all works? My main concern is that say I'm on it for a few months to a year and reach my goal weight, once I leave the program will I gain all the weight back? |

So I don't know how you girls did this week, but i'm scared to step on the scale today. I had a really great weekend with some friends but I ate so much stuff that I shouldn't have! I started detoxing yesterday and determined to eat only fruit and veggies this week to get rid of all that crap! I'll let you all know what the scale says when I go to the gym this afternoon :( I'm crossing my fingers that all it will say is that I didn't lose anything, not that I gained... we'll see. Lillysmominpa - It happens... obviously! It really is amazing how crappy you feel when you eat stuff like that! All day I've felt so sluggish and gross after last night (and this just coming off of feeling really good about doing so well over the weekend...)! I'm going on a hike tonight with some girlfriends of mine, so hopefully that will be enough to get me back on track. It's a good hike that takes about 2 hours to finish so I should be able to burn the calories I ate last night. Bluemisscutie - CONGRATS on your self-control! It's so easy to give into peer pressure. Melkor, Thanks so much with your help. Sorry this post has become something other than it was originally supposed to be! I just have so many questions. I have battled with weight all my life and am sick of not feeling comfortable in my own skin! I'm trying to figure all of this out and I appreciate any and all answers :)
Even though I know I need to eat more, in complete honesty, I just don't feel like eating most of the time. Today's a good example... I had a cup of coffee and some grapes when I woke up, had a handful of almonds for a snack at about 11am, just finished a salad of lettuce, tuna and red potatoes and I'm stuffed! Yet, I've only eaten 750 cal today... I wasn't hungry until tonight and that's why I ate the salad. Should I just eat even if I'm not hungry? Or should I eat higher calorie foods when I am hungry? ???

What would you suggest??? I'm going off of CC recommendations that I should be eating 1300 cal to lose 1 1/2 pounds/week. My goal is to lose 20lbs by October 30th. I'm walking to get places as much as I can (living in a small town, that's pretty much everywhere), biking to school (about 4 miles/day) and jogging 3 miles about 4 days a week. Do you have any ideas of good high calorie foods that I can eat while I do feel hungry since I don't like to eat while I'm not hungry? I like to eat lots of fruits and veggies and occasionally lean meats. |

Last night my friend and I went downtown and I caved in and ate some AMAZING frozen yogurt, only to regret it five minutes later... I've decided it's really not worth it! whatever07 - between work and classes and any tad bit of a social life we're able to keep, it's so hard to stick to a balanced diet! Keep up the good work!
