Hi everyone! Skookum--as long as you're not gaining, you're golden. Good for you. Danielle--way to go on the half! Carol--do you or your bf or any of your friends or anything have a dog? Dog walks or playing around at a dog park are always fun. Also, any farmers' markets in the area? Those are great for bf/gf time, you can go for a nice stroll outside while making healthy eating choices together. Also, you can point out the prettiest flowers and let him buy some for you : )
This past weekend I ran my first 5k--it was on a runway at O'Hare airport in Chicago, and it was SO fun. In November I'm signed up for a 10k, and I gotta get my butt in gear for it.

Hi tallies--long time no see. I've spent the last few weeks housesitting/on vacation/visiting friends and haven't been able to stop in. Because I obsess over it too much, I've been avoiding the scale for the past few weeks. But, my size 8 jeans are becoming bigger and it looks like I'll have to invest in a pair of size 6 jeans. Progress! In crazy news, I signed up for a 10k in November. The most I've run is 4 miles, but I'm still pretty confident that I'll be up for the race when the time comes.
Southern Midwife--your loss is INCREDIBLE. Good for you! LaLindz--maybe you need to up your calories? I stall out around 1500, and need to be at least at 1700 cals to see any weight loss. Bytheway, SW 170, CW (as of a few weeks ago) 152, GW 140ish, 5'10''. |

You might want to adjust your calorie intake, and take into account how much you burn while running. Don't be afraid to take in some extra healthy calories on days when you walk/run. |

Southern Midwife congrats! Isn't it so strange how a number can make you feel so incredible? Car, that breakfast sounds super-tasty, much better than the little kids' cereal I downed this morning. My gym time is usually early morning, so my breakfast suffers; I wish the breakfast place in my building served something other than bagels and pastries. So, for the first time since probably high school, I clocked in at 152.6 lbs! I thought my scale was broken, so I actually pulled off my dress and stepped on again just to make sure it was measuring correctly. The scale is actually at my parents' house (so I don't obsess over weighing myself). My poor mother probably thought I was a crazy person--I was dancing around the scale in my leggings and a bra celebrating. Last week I ate about 1800 calories/day consistently, and I wasn't at the gym daily like usual. So, I'm thinking about upping them even more on workout days, because last week was my biggest weight loss week. Speaking of the gym, I ran my longest run ever this morning--4 miles! Hopefully if I get my butt in gear I can find myself a 10K in November and not collapse half-way through. So, question for you all: what do you usually eat after workouts? Today I had cereal and fruit, but I'm sure there's something better I can be doing with those calories.

2lilguys--we seem like we're in the same boat. I am also 5'10'' and have been holding steady at 157 for a few weeks and try to get three or four 3-mile runs in a week. I was running more often, but my knees started crunching, and scaling back was probably a good idea. I'm curious, how many calories do you usually tally for a day when you run? Since we're rockin' similar stats, I figure you'd be a good person to ask!

Congrats to everyone on their losses and maintenance. I'm holding steady at 157 this week (SW: 170, GW: 140ish, height: 5'10'') and am pretty happy with that. Only 7 more pounds to 150! People have been asking if I'm getting taller//wearing heels, so I think that means I'm making progress. Also, someone at the gym called me "an inspiration" and then went on to introduce me to all of his friends (they're all older men, and I'm 23, so I tell everyone about my new old man club at the gym). Hopefully all these new people that I know will make me feel accountable enough to keep going to the gym every morning. E'dy---that sounds about right, as far as what I do. The days I run 2 or 3 miles I get extra super-hungry, so I make sure I get some extra calories in (usually in protein--chicken, or apples with peanut butter). Skookum, cute haircut (or new picture)! I ate maintenance last week, so let's see if I can't cut down a few calories and drop a pound this week. Good luck everyone! |

I know I'm a little late on this but, as someone who went from long to real short, I think I can help.
I started with that poshspice bob: http://www.flickr.com/photos/beckybloom/20953 18102/ It grew out nicely and stuff. I loved it, but wanted to go shorter: http://www.flickr.com/photos/beckybloom/24017 64107/
So I got a pixie cut and, despite everyone telling me I'd look stupid/fat/ugly with short hair, I look great. It's versatile, easy to maintain, and you use WAY less shampoo and conditioner. It's also growing out nicely into that graduated bob, which is convenient.
Good luck! Sorry if I'm too late. |

Welcome Cabushaw! My stats are pretty similar to yours. I'm 5'10'', 23-years-old, started somewhere around 170, and am aiming for somewhere around 140 (give or take 5 pounds depending how I look and feel). I'm currently at 158. This is what I'm doing that's been working: I've been at the gym 5-6 times a week, usually running and lifting. Also, my calorie intake is similar to yours, but some days it's a little lower because I don't find myself getting hungry as much. I try to never go under 1200. Try to incorporate some strength training into your workouts. It makes all the difference and you'll actually start to see definition sooner than you expect. I hope that helps! Stick around and let us know how it goes; it's also helpful for me to have someone so similar to my body type to share progress with : ) |

Not intending to gloat here or anything, but you guys are the ones that get it. Today my boyfriend's little sister (well, 18, not too little) asked if I lost "like, a lot of weight." I figure if that shorty like her can notice a change in this 5'10''-er, then I gotta be doing something right. I figured that was a good reason to have a home-made snickerdoodle cookie. It was delicious. |

dplatzer--I've been having the same sugar- (mostly chocolate, that is) craving issues. So, my new breakfast fix has been half a cup of Fage 0% (thick, Greek) yogurt with a tablespoon of nutella mixed in. I throw in some fresh blueberries or any kind of fruit to, and the chocolate+sweet combo really hits the spot at around 200 calories. And it's healthy!
Fifth Miracle--I've also started biking to work--I equipped my bike with a rack and paniers (saddlebags, pretty much) and it makes lugging all my gym and work stuff a lot more tolerable. It's weird to ride with at first, but makes towing stuff a lot easier. www.nashbar.com has a lot of good stuff, if that's something you're interested in.
I'm down to 159, and the gym's getting tougher because I get real bored. Maybe if I can power through this week and throw in some long bike rides I'll get over it. |

Hi all--I'm new and excited to find support from other tall ladies like me. I'm 5'10'' and currently weigh 160. I'm not sure my exact starting weight, but I've been up to around 170. My goal weight is 140, maybe 135 depending on how I feel and look. Since May I've been getting to the gym every day I go to work, and I've been trying my best to count calories (I try to stick to 1500 a day). I run and weight train and stretch, but exercising is getting kinda boring, and I'm stuck in a slump. Hopefully when I check the scale at the end of the week there'll be some kind of progress to keep me motivated.
Have a great weekend, I look forward to reading everyone's progress and telling you mine next week. |
