I hope this is not your primary criterion for choosing a college! Also, you will get a very wide range of answers since there are colleges and universities all over the place that are veg-friendly. You might get more helpful replies if you can narrow it down to your intended field of study and perhaps a general location. It would be best for you if you could find schools that have a good program in your field, and then once you know those you can look at location and veg-friendliness to narrow it down to a few to apply to.

Good luck!

Yes a veg friendly collage is deff. not going to be the main deciding factor in where i go, it would just be nice if it was. I live in Arizona and i think i am leaning toward some sort of engineering. thanks!

yeah thats great advice meesh. I have been doing the mechanical eating thing and it really does help, along with 6-7 small meals because i get full fast, cause there is no way i would reach my goal if i just listened to my stomach.

Wow 4500+ I can't even imagine. LoL

Thanks a lot meesh you are giving me the reassurance i need to eat that much and not feel like a fat pig. 3500 with out exercise at this time does seem insane as i am struggling to get 2500 a day but i think i am up for it. tomorrow i am going to make an effort to eat more Thanks again ill try to report my results tomorrowWink.

Thanks meeshmeesh. That sounds like quite a goal to take on but i think i am up for it. Unfortunately i don't think i can cut much of the exercise maybe a little but they are team sports and i can't just leave them, do you think i can still gain and participate in these sports at the same time. Also what do you think i should be shooting for weight wise. Thank

wow there is a lot of great info in this forum. maybe you guys can help me out

I am a male 18 years old 5'8" and only weigh 105. Before i had an ED i was only between 118-125 so ive always been pretty small. I am also very active and participate in many endurance sports(soccer/Xcountry) I am just starting to recover from my ED and have come from 1500-1800 to 2200-2500cals a day. ive been eating this much for probably 2 weeks now and there hasnt been a bit of gain. what does this mean, am i still in a starvation state because of all the exercise i do (i typically burn 500-700 a day), how much should i be eating to get to a normal metabolism. Ive read you want to eat what you should maintain on + what ever you burn through exercise+ 500 does that mean i should be eating 3000-3500 minimum.

lookready- i just made some of isa's seitan, it tastes amazing; mine is kind of gummy and falling apart though, i may have used to much water. the good old frying pan fixed that though.

i was also wondering if seitan is a complete protein like tofu?

P.S. i dont mind eating honey if its already in something, but i do use agave nectar or black strap molasses(even healthier)

I love agave nectar, but what is "black strap malasses?" I'm not particularly fond of regular (light or dark) molasses. Is there a raw version of the black strap?

I saw David Wolfe talking about this black honey he is marketing. It looked black, but not as thick as regular honey. He was just drinking it out of a mason jar.

I use bee pollen in some of my smooties. Not vegan? I suppose it's how it's processed. I don't *think* any bees are harmed when the honey is harvested. It doesn't seem to adversely affect the bees.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say honey falls into a gray area of vegan/not vegan. Personally, I don't see the harm.

I like bees. Haven't been stung since I was a kid, and I was probably doing something wrong back then. :) I'm not so sure I'd want to keep a hive in my back yard tho! :p

Black strap molasses is the molasses in its unrefined state(the stuff off the bottom of the barrel) so it tastes like regular molasses but its loaded with tons of iron and calcium.

Since you are looking to gain weight and do a lot of activity (which is great) - your calorie goal for everyday should be roughly 3500 or so! Honestly, once you gain a bit more weight you will feel worlds better and have so much more energy to commit to your active lifestyle.

But when I say increase your calories to this amount, I don't mean increase them in a unhealthy fashion - I want you to consume large amounts of lean proteins and lots of healthy fats along with whole fruits and vegetables! I am talking breakfast = 4 eggs scrambled with sauteed (in olive oil) peppers, onions, green beans (or any veggies you like) with a side of berries and some whole grain toast (2-3 grams of fiber per slice)... Lunch should look something like = 2 slices of whole grain bread with about 5 ounces of turkey/chicken in the center with mustard & veggies and again a side of fruit, maybe a side salad with an oil & vinegar dressing... Dinner should consist of a nice hefty portion of protein like 8-10 ounces of fish (wild salmon is my favorite)... with steamed/sauteed/boiled vegetables & whole grain rice or/and lentils... Of course snacks will help boost your calorie count as well and they should be a balance of carbs, protein & healthy fat... a good idea would be... a hard boiled egg with sliced peppers and maybe a couple of nuts or/and a drizzle of olive oil... or some avocado with whole grain toast, salsa and sliced turkey breast.

I do hope these ideas of mine help you, because I want you to get nice and healthy & enjoy your life as much as you can!

all thats great and all but i am a vegan so i don't eat alot of what you recommended but i am also a health nut so i eat very healthy anyway

Oreos may be vegan, but they're absolutely horrific for you! If being vegan is partially a health choice on your part, I'd avoid them! Just like you said, you'd rather eat something nutritious. Upping your calories with whole grains and protein is best! Have you tried cooking with tempeh in addition to/instead of tofu? It's got a higher calorie count and is still very healthy. I've NEVER had the problem of needing to eat more, but if I did, I think I'd worry about the quality of my food intake more than ever, since I'm putting so much of it into my body. Good luck!

No i haven't tried tempeh before but i think they sell it at the local health food store i guess ill pick some up next time i am in there.

I have just recently been trying out some homemade seitan though, but i don't know how that ranks with tofu as far as calories go.

also how much nuts/nut butters is too much i keep hearing to add them like crazy to everything but won't that cause fat % in the diet to go way up too, would it be better to get more carbs instead(i have been using PB/AB liberally on toast and oatmeal.)

umm, try yummy + nutritious things! im not vegan, but my older sister is, and she really knows how to pig out--lol.

i know that oreos are vegan, and since theyre yummy pig ouut! +D

and potato bread with vegetable spread is yummy too, (potato bread is pretty high calorie, a bit more than 200 calories a slice).

peanut chews (candy!)

higher-carb foods? parboiled rice usually has more? =[ sorry if i wasnt much help.

wait. how are oreos vegan? what about the cream in between them? what about the milk used in the chocolate cookie part?

yeah oreos are defiantly not vegan and plus i would rather get my cals form something more nutritiou

great ideas. the breakfast is typically what i have on a daily basis any way(oatmeal is awesome)

are you sure quinoa has 600 cal per cup form what ive seen it has about the same as rice 200-250.

as far as protein powders go would you recommend hemp over others, i know there are a lot of soy ones but i have been trying to moderate and not overdose on the soy (i know i dont need the extra protein from powders but i think it will be a good way to add much needed cals)

and as far as healthy cookies go do you have any good recipes?

P.S. i dont mind eating honey if its already in something, but i do use agave nectar or black strap molasses(even healthier)

Quinoa def has 600+ cals a cup. Type it into calorie count search! Amaranth is the same.

I try to stay away from soy because they use hexane which is not good to extract the protein. I don't eat meat analogs anymore. Pretty much hemp seeds, nuts, hemp protein are where I get my protein from. Hemp has omegas 3-6-9 in the right ratios and has complete protein (meaning they have the essential amino acids). Not to mention raw. Omegas degrade with heat.

Some healthy cookies:

Here is one I like to make often.

1 cup oatmeal

1/2 wheat bran

1/2 cocao powder

1/2 cup agave syrup

1/2 cup natural pb

2 tbsp coconut butter- but you can use flaxseed/or hemp seed oil (it will make it more moist choosing the latter)

2 tsp Himalayan salt

handful cocao nibs, or chocolate vegan chips, you can also add some other nuts etc

1. place oat and bran in a bowl

2. double broil other ingredients (except for the chips/nibs)

- i double broil because I am doing raw and it is low temp, but you could simmer it on low straight in a pan, or microwave (Not that i recommend the microwave at all).

3. dump warm mixture in oatmeal, see if it is too dry or wet add a bit or wet or dry ingredient accordingly

4. throw in the chips and nibs... mmm

5. make little mountains, like drop cookies on a non-stick sheet

6. place in your fridge for 20 mins to set

7. eat!

As far as quinoa goes i guess it just matters how packed it is because you can fluff it up quite a bit.

Thanks for the recipe it looks pretty good ill have to try itSmile

definitely feeling the "upping calories gradually" i have tried to eat a whole lot at once and that totally back fires, i think it might be all that fiber. as far as guacamole goes i usually don't eat that much because i don't care for avocados that much. thanks for the advice though.
