The Lounge my boyfriend needs more friends! Jan 29 2009

If your boyfriend has any hobbies, investigate local clubs pertaining to them.  There are many public clubs in most towns: poker club, chess club, sports, etc.  If you can find something you think he'll like, encourage him to go.

As someone who has actually been in your boyfriend's situation, I can tell you that you cannot forceably become friends with anyone, it just has to be right.

When I got off from school back in high school I would eat 2-3 servings of cheetoes, 2-3 cups of 2% milk, a cosmic brownie, 3-5 oz of salami, and 2-3 oz of swiss cheese.

You're probably gaining because your entire diet is carbs and fat, you mustn't get more than 30 grams of protein a day...  First of all, remove the pretzels, string cheese and almonds from your diet altogether.  For breakfast, go with egg whites, a fat free cheddar cheese, a few tomatoe chunks, and low fat ham for your omlette.  For lunch go with a can of tuna and your usual veggies/fruit.  Fruit is a great choice for a pre-workout snack.  Sounds like you're doing the right thing for dinner as well.  For dessert try a fiber one bar or a special k bar, they're relatively low on calories and they taste excellent.

It could very easily be muscle mass gain or water retention by your muscles.  Remember to weigh yourself in the mornig just after using the bathroom and to do it naked for the least fluctuation due to clothing/excrements/consumed foods.

Fitness fitness guru help!!! weaker left arm! Aug 26 2008

Just keep your right arm doing all the same stuff weight while slowly increasing your left arm.  I had this problem with bicep curls.  I was able to do 40 lbs with my right arm 10 times, but only 6 times with my left arm.  I decreased the weight for my left arm to 35 lbs for two weeks until I could do 35 13 times, and maintained the 40 lbs 10 times with my right arm.  Now both are very equal (albeit my right bicep is still substantially larger lol).

I used to eat 3000 calories a day.  When I began dieting I cut down to 1700 a day.  For the first 10 days I was hungry.  Since then, my body has been content with 1700 and even disapproves of having more than 800 in a single seating, which used to be very common for me.  This morning I woke up at 6 am, it's now 2 pm, I've had 755 calories and I'm not hungry at all.

I thought it was 90+ minutes a day that burned muscle.  I'm pretty sure that the 90 minutes a week thing is false since I don't work out my legs other than HIIT running, elliptacals, and cycles and my legs have grown substantially in the past three months...

It took my body about 10 days to get used to 3000 cal/day to 1700 cal/day, but I think it will vary.

Use this formula and your best algebra skills to determine how many calories you need each day.

GC = Average Gym Calories; WC = Average Work Calories; DGD = Days until goal date; BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate; GW = Goal Weight; CW = Current Weight; CCD = Calories consumed each day

(CW - GW) x 3500 = (BMR + WC + GC - CCD) x DGD

Solve for CCD aftering inputing everything, don't forget your order of operations.

Also, for your diet shoot for 37.5% protein, 37.5% carbs, and 25% fat.  The protein will help you build muscle, which in turn will increase your metabolism and make you lose even faster.  Have 1/4 of your daily protein intake within an hour after working out.  Have 1/4 of your daily carb intake just before working out (I've found this really helps with my stamina on cardio machines).

I only use three cups for liquids, one is 1 cup, another is 1.5 cups, and the other is 2 cups.  For condiments I measure 100% exact since they're caloric values are very high and therefore very sensitive to amount.  For everything else I just estimate; I know what a cup of rice/pototoes/corn looks like, as well as 1 oz of most meats.

If you go to a gym, I can almost guarantee you won't feel out of place.  Know why?  Answer this for me: Why is everyone going to the gym?  The answer is simple: to improve themselves.  If anything you should feel welcome since you already have something in common with everyone...

Original Post by keb1984:

Besides being in better shape because of exercise, would person B lose weight faster than person A?

If you took a man, cloned him, and did this process, then the answer is yes.  As person B exercises he gains muscle mass and his Basal Metabolic Rate will slowly increase since muscle burns calories just sustaining itself; however, the difference over a short period of time would be minimal.

Fitness Abs Aug 24 2008

I went from having about two handfuls of fat on my stomach to having a four pack in 4 weeks doing what I'm about to tell you.  My diet is 40% protein 25% fat and 35% carbs; for you.  I do weight lifting and cardio every day.  Among my exercises are five ab exercises: captain's chair, the ab wheel, planks, jackknives, and sit-ups; however, that's just central abs, you also need to work your obliques if you want that serious definition.  My oblique exercises include: standing side crunches (take a weight around 30 lbs, put your hand on your hip and use your core to lean that direction; then switch sides and repeat), planks, oblique sit-ups, and obliques on the ab wheel (veering off to the side).

If you're on a 1400 calorie diet, you need about 135 grams of protein.  This will give your abs the tools they need to build/tone.

One of the most important things is exercise variety.  On arm/shoulder days I do jackknives, captain's chair, sit-ups, standing side crunches, and oblique sit-ups.  On chest/back days I do the ab wheel, planks, sit-ups, and obliques on the ab wheel.

Good luck and feel free to mail me if you have any questions.

Fitness Is it Okay to work out 7 Days Per Week? Aug 24 2008

I've been working out every day for a month now and enjoy both it and the results I see.  The thing is, you need to change up your cardio routines every day.  I rotate between the Elliptacal machines, running on the treadmill, and the cycles.  If you're weight training, it is imperitive that you do not work out the same muscle group within 48 hours (with the exception of abs and calves).
