| Weight Loss | Eating at your BMR to lose weight? | May 06 2009 21:47 (UTC) |

Thhq ... It is great you lost that much weight! Years ago before I had kids:) I took a class how to lose weight by counting calories and our nutritionist told us to eat not more then 1000 and use BMR of the "goal weight".. After 4 months I lost 40 pounds, I did not eat more then 1000 and made sure I eat enough fiber and at least about 30 gm of protein a day.. So, it was pretty healthy diet - lean meat and lots of veggies! Eating 1400-1500 never worked for me... I would lose first couple pounds and then the weight loss would stop...
Actually, there are researchers showing that the less we eat the longer we live:)

Original Post by fantoom: Try to make a commitment to have wine after certain time in the evening (I do 9 pm) and give yourself a promise not to have any snacks with it.... Just think about wine as it is your snack!!! "The snack of the day" |

Red wine 3.5 oz = 75 calories... white wine 3.5 oz = 70 calories.. even if there couple calories less or more - does not make a big difference! I glass of wine usually is 6 oz.. if it looks full - 7 oz... it is 150 calories .. So, as I am a huge fan of red wine.. I am making sure during the day that I leave 300 calories out of my "budget" for 2 glasses of wine in the evening And from other hand.. wine helps me in the evening, which is the most hard time for me to stop eating.. as I take little sips and 2 glasses usually last about 2-3 hours until i go to bed! |

ohtobethinagain We are all different, I personally do not eat breakfast as I am never hungry in the morning... I hate to eat when I am not hungry! I enjoy my cup of tea.. sometimes with a whole grain cracker... and I have a meal later afternoon... When I tried to force into myself the "healthy breakfast" - I felt tired and wanted to eat more and more |

That's sound's a great plan! I understand that there are different opinions out there about how many calories to eat to lose weight safely... My nutritionist suggested not to go less then 600 calories and not to eat more then 1200.. as eating more then that would take longer time to lose weight and it is easy to get tired of dieting and get frustrated with it all.. I am 5'6" and before I had my children I used to lose weight by eating 1000 cal a day and it took me 5 months to lose about 40 pounds...But I was 8 years younger and more active :) Right now I am trying to eat 1200... just started |

| Weight Loss | Raising Metabolism after Fasting? | Jul 29 2008 22:01 (UTC) |

There are books written by doctors who wrote the testimonies of those people who were fasting on water under their supervision and got rid of many diseases It does cleanse the body from the junk that you can not get rid of by just drinking water and eating fiber and healthy food.. The cleanse during long period of fast is much deeper in cells.. My friend was over 220 lb and had the worst form of diabetes, doctors could not help but prescribe medication.. plus he had asthma and it used to take him 20-30 minutes to get upstairs on the 2nd floor, he could not be active with his kids, any family events, wife .. and he was just in his early 40s.. He read some books about fasting, studied how to do it right and I think the longest he did fast was 40 days.. After that he became a new man with great eating habits (no junk, no bad stuff) and lost 60lb, got rid of diabetes and asthma, and became physically very active! One of my friends was an alcoholic and smoker, after 3 weeks of fasting she quite both and never started again... she loves to fast once 3-4 months.. My neighbour for 11 years could not have kids, she spent 21 days fasting in one of the clinics and 2 months later got pregnant.. And I do agree - fasting is not for everybody.. Some people can not skip lunch physically or mentally You fast for 30 days .. you do not eat for 30 days at all or you do not eat just during the day? It would be 2 different things |

| Motivation | Longest Plateau? | Jul 29 2008 21:13 (UTC) |

My doctor (nutritionist) told us that if count calories faithfully the plateau can not be longer then 1-2 weeks... If it gets frustrated he suggested to get on the "mono-diet".. 7 days - for each day chose just one type of food out of the list : chicken, eggs, vegetable, fruit, buttermilk or yogurt, fish, grain... And count calories anyway... HELPS! Well... I used to be on 1000 calories diet at that point.. Or.. to have one crazy day - eat as much as you want.. and next day follow strictly your amount of calories.. |

Wow! I moved to USA from Russia 6 years ago and never heard from anyone about fasting! I thought only Russians are crazy enough to do it!:) I used to fast and the longest I went was 14 days, but first 7 days out of 14 I was on so called "dry fast" - no water.. It helped me to get into fast without water first 2-3 days.. I MISS the feeling of fasting.. it has been 2 years since my last fast! I had some friends in Russia who used to support me, here it is much harder.. I used to fast with the purpose to fix my metabolism, lose weight and clean my body, I read a lot of books about fasting and found that fasting regularly helps to keep metabolism going! I lost about 40-45 pounds withing 3 months (what I did is I fast 5-7 days every 2-3 weeks.. ) and what helped me not to gain weight back is to fast 1 day a week (Monday works great) and counting calories.. I would not eat more then 1000-1200 first 1-2 weeks after fast, then I would eat 1400-1600 but I did not eat more.. I think you should count calories and increase the amount with each week... And, next time when you are ready for the next fast would you let me join you? |
