Original Post by oversix2: LOL! Thank God! WOW, congrats on your loss this week! woo hoo!
Cristin-Don't be afraid of the muscley guys--i've never encountered a 'mean' one. They typically stick to what they're doing and you can stick to what you do. Just know your etiquette (don't walk in front of the mirror while someone is doing a set, etc) and you'll be fine. Confidence is key--walk in like you own it...and you will! I've gone in during off times before just to get acquainted with where everything is so when i go to do my workout i don't have to stand there looking all around for the next piece of equipment or weight to use, that always helps me feel more confident.
BL FINALE TONIGHT! I second the vote for Tara :D |

What type of exercise are you doing? As I said before I workout religiously--3-4 days/week of cardio and 2 days of full body heavy lifting. I spin on 2 of the cardio days, do HIIT on another, and am active at home (walk/run in hilly neighborhood) for the other. My 2 days of lifting include among other things squats, deadlifts, lunges, bench press, pull ups, dips, shoulder work and abs. I also walk at least 2-3 times/week at lunch to take a break from work although that might turn into rollerblading now! muhahaha! My calorie intake is what usually kills me because I can eat SO DAMN MUCH that I go overboard. I can maintain on about 3000 cals/day if I'm careful. I'm currenly at 2000 and losing, will drop to 1800 on cardio days soon...I know it sounds like a lot but I have a terrible overeating problem that I've been trying to conquer my whole adult life....not there yet...anyway...
Tab- I love rollerblading! I have to break them out for the season :) :)! Amanda--a fellow amazon! I completely believe you that you are thin at 230!! I understand! I look "thin" now to other people but I don't feel it for myself yet :(..I think 170 will make me feel it. that would be amazing for me! Congrats on your wonderful loss since Jan-very impressive! So you want to lose 95 MORE from 230? Put you at 135? that's woefully thin for your height...did I miss something? SG-another tallie! My "Ideal" weight is in the 150s/160s -- was there last at 16 as a sophomore in highschool....before boobs and a big ole butt came around!

Kate-1700 is NOT too much. Upping mileage will take more cals so I think that is a great weight loss #. Have you taken a few weeks off of "dieting" recently to up to maintenance (2000-2500)? This will help your leptin levels reset and allow you to lose fat again once you start cutting cals once again. Carol-I hardly think 350 cals is a 'binge' ;). You overate because you wanted it--nothing wrong with that once in a while!! i have a hard time with cereal too. Welcome tcole! Congrats nybanana--woo hoo broke out of the 170s!!! NICE! That's my next goal :). Avocados are amazing for you-just put the cals in right and you will have no prob. the more fats the better when dieting (in my opinion ;)). okie-you look great! and what a beautiful place there! Very slim
Sooooooooooooooo my weigh in today: Last week: 176.4 Monday: 177.8 (ack!) Today: 174.2 --- NEW LLLLOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! So this is the least I've weighed in my 1.5 years weighing on this scale--_VERY exciting! I had TOM last week/this week and I think that's what happened monday but it scared the **** out of me so I cut to 1500/day. Emberjem once told me to suck it up and cut the cals, lose the weight, and then go back to eating more. Maybe she was on to something!Although my cravings are through the roof! I'm sticking to 1500 the days I'm in town because I have lots of bad food times coming up--This weekend will be bad --seeing hubs and then going to a conference (conference food always sucks-they are even having a superbowl party and it's with my new co-workers so i can't just not go which i would've done otherwise)...then next weekend my mom's coming and we'll go out to eat a lot...then the next weekend I MOVE to hubs' place and it's V-day so there is another eating time...and then I start my new job...lots of food then too. Yeesh. I'm going to do the best I can. Happy Friday All!

Congrats okie! that's great!!! Mellisaann-i'm pmsing too :(...bloated-check, miserable-check, crying for the last 2 nights-check! ha! I've found that i just have to let the bloat come and go--no amount of water will take it away during TOM for me. I just deal with it. just think, even if you don't lose any or gasp, gain a lb or two, you'd still be at an average loss of over 1 lb a week which is wonderful! Don't feel digusting and don't weigh if you don't want to. I often feel like if i weigh a certain amount heavier it gives me permission to eat whatever i want because i'm already "fat". so on those days i tend to skip the scale and just live in blissful ignorance. speaking of which i still weigh in on PMS fridays and I gained this week so don't feel too bad-happens to all of us :).
Weigh-in: 176.4 (+0.6) I'll take it. PMSing, retaining water like a mofo, and ate well above 5000 cals for 3 days last weekend This week (since Tuesday) I've been on 1500-2000 cals and I'm literally starving. STARVING. So I think I'm going to stick to 2000 cals and just lose REALLY slowly again. For now. Also, my cravings have been slightly out of control so that will allow me not to feel as deprived..and resist the pizza at lunch today! Happy Weekend All! |

Original Post by erinw43: Hi Erin, sorry to hear about your boyfriend :(. That's hard. As for cals i eat about 2000 on average to lose but that could probably be bumped up a bit as i've been maintaining on much more lately. I'm about 175 and 6' (my ultimate goal weight is 160 too! but for now i'm going for 10 more lbs). I am a basketball player for sure! It was really funny the other day i met a new co-worker who apparently puts together intramural teams and she said "Yes, i'm puttingyou on the bball team and volleyball team! you play sports right?" and i said "no, never did" in a VERY sarcastic way as i was also wearing 3" heels and she didn't get it :(. So i had to explain that i was joking and love to play. I've only been able to play with guys since college because girls that play and are decent are hard to find :(.. BUT I also get to be a three point shooter now because i cant play post anymore with the bigger guys :).what are you in grad school for? Hi Skooks, good job on maintaining! And if you and danielle have very similar body shapes at 150 i think that may be my new goal! you ladies are smokin! it's a bit far away for me at the moment...considering it takes me a good 3-4 months to lose 10lbs ;). Anyway, look to make it a quadruplet set by July? Maybe?! that would be awesome! a great exercise for that glute/ham tie in at the lower butt is the glute-ham raise--look it up at exrx.net. it's killer and really hard to do! also, stiff legged deadlifts really target that area too. hi nybanana-i used to sabatoge myself A LOT at certain weights. i've found it helps me to put more "weight" on my measurements...maybe you can try that? Well, no pics for me this time...hubs didn't bring his camera. oh well. i ate terribly this weekend but felt in control the whole time so that is very exciting. i did notice my head startign to make me crazy about food around him. i've told him before to 'watch' me and my food intake but now it;s just too much pressure for him to question the things i eat. i'll need to make that crystal clear before we move back in with each other *sigh*. Happy Monday! |

Original Post by yoga44: Hi Yogs--i too am envious of lindsay's dedication and loss!! I lost 11lbs in that time and thought I was doing well :p! For me to maintain on that much I workout 5 times/week-2 full body weight sessions of about 30 min, and 3 cardio sessions of 30-45 min. I also walk about 2-3 miles/day out of normal activity. If I get to 3000 the next day I try to take it down to 2500....yesterday I tried for 2000 and broke down! ended up around 2200. Today I think I'm already at 3000...and it's only 3PM! ha! I think the key for me is when I have a 3000 + day I have to check back down to a reasonable # in the next 1-2 days in order for it to not turn into a gain. Congrats on your 2lbs!!! and the birth mark showing up again!! Awesome :) |

Hi All :) You have all been doing great!!! I survived the holidays and then some---and I'm happy to say I didn't gain a lb. This is a major deal for me as it always was AT LEAST 5-10 good lbs...not just water weight lbs! I kept up my workouts and ate what I pleased. i haven't felt this comfortable with food...ever? I have boxes of cereal in my house, graham crackers, frosting, etc and haven't had to feel guilty about going overboard yet. Pretty proud I guess. So anyway, I'm ready to lose another 10lbs by April! Since it took me about 2 months to lose my first 10 I'd like to give myself that amount of time to lose the second 10.I'm currently maintaining on 2500-3000 so I'm a touch concerned about lowering cals as I tried a couple of times to limit to 2000 and had trouble! The next few months will be tricky for me--I was offered a couple of jobs where my husband is and decided to take one so I'm moving in mid-Feb and I am so excited! That means access to gym will be limited for 2 weeks (my membership runs out here at the end of Jan) and stress levels will be high. I am confident that I can do it though. I am slightly concerned about my emotions and food intake when i move in with hubs and we tend to have trouble controlling our temptations with food when we're around each other. It will take A LOT of focus for me to listen to myself and not what he's saying or eating :). I will be back with official weight/measurements on friday and hopefully a new set of pics soon as I've lost some inches and bf *I think* since my last ones even though I'm the same weight. and i can't even pull off my two fave pairs of work pants anymore...i look like a fool with a saggy butt.

Hi Carol, sorry to hear about the struggles lately. Have you thought about upping your cals a bit everyday to maybe 1300-1400 to start and then seeing how you do for a few weeks? then maybe you won't be tempted so much to eat out? that's the way it works for me anyway...although i eat 2500 calories, and i also weigh a good 40-50lbs more than you so maybe that has something to do with it! My thanksgiving was good! I ate tons that day, ate maintenance the next day, and about 500 over maintenance on saturday. All in all, I lost .4 lbs! YES! I'm 175.8 now and I'm thrilled, holding steady in the 175-176 which makes me very happy. Ready to lose a bit more now before the next big holidays but at least my in-laws have a new treadmill so i can work out there. i did no activity this past weekend besides the 1.5 hr cardio guilt session yesterday! Hope you all are doing well. |

Are we all still here??? How'd everyone do for t-day? I did alright, lots of food on thursday, maintenance on friday, and prob 500 over maintenance on sat. yesterday i pulled 1.5 hrs of cardio though so i feel better! ha! well...my weigh in is below...and i am shocked!!!!!!!! I definitely thought i had at least 3500 cals extra this weekend, if not more...and yet I LOST! maybe the marathon cardio session yesterday dehydrated me or something (that was marathon for me...anything more than 30 min is pushing it usually!). anyway, hope to see 174 soon, as in by friday or monday. hope you all did well!
GW : 168 I measured last week as well: 11-24: Will measure next week on Monday. |

Hi All, I've been doing a bit more reading, less posting lately. I've been reigning back the high cal counts--been a tid bit hard but I'm trying at least. Today i was 176.4 so now i'm consistently bouncing between 175-176 so that's good! not quite where i wanted to be this week but i'll take it! and etah...i cannot believe you think you are fat. i'm sure you hear that a lot and no one can really understand but you...i just want you to know that you are amazingly beautiful and slender!!! diva--holy cow...i'm someone's motivation! thanks |

Hi on my way, you can get straps or start doing barbell work as bpanke suggests. the straps are a bit tough to get a handle on at first but you wrap them around your hands and the barbell and they help you hold the weight for deadlifts and any other pull exercise. my grip is terrible too...you could also start trying overhead lunges where you hold the dumbells over your head--super tough! good luck! |

Hi all. I ate up my cals yesterday by 4PM so it was a long time until bed yesterday! Oh well, i stuck to my guns. I was weighing off of my home scale and the gym scale in what i thought was a 6 lb discrepancy....turns out its 7. i know, 1 measley pound, it was harder to take this morning than i thought after i weighed in at both places! ANYway...I use the higher weighted scale as my for real measure. i'd already be at goal if i used the other one! Name: Init

Hi Olivia I typically weigh in most days and make the lowest one the one that counts for that week! ha! I can post weight whenever you all would like. And i for one LOVE CHALLENGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm one of those hyper-competitive types and being challenged tends to keep me on track. what do you have in mind? Well, I guess i can share a bit more about me--I'm married and have been for 5 years in December (yay!). Yes, i was young and honestly its been the best thing to ever happen to me! my husband is wonderful and i'm madly in love...too bad he just moved :(. he got his dream job in another state and moved away while i currently have a job i love. so we see each other on the weekends although it still is sucking, majorly. i've been trying to find new jobs but its such a tight market *sigh*. I did have one interview so far and i really hope they liked me (they said so but I'm in HR so i know how the game works!). Since I posted here last time I've done well in my calorie counting and am back down to 176 from 177.4 the other day. I'm doing well so i can actually enjoy myself on thanksgiving and not have to worry about 'making up' for a binge or overeating. I think I might actually make it to my 168! how exciting! If anyone is curious i have before and middle pics in my gallery...i used to be very into bodybuilding so please don't mind the bikini and bicep shot! ha! I'm just comfortable with my body and i know its not perfect or as small as i'd like to be, i'm just not shy about it I guess?! How's everyone else doing? |

Hello all :) I'd like to join! I'm a tall amazon--5'11" and currently popping between 175-177. I will go 5% off 177 as I like to lose veerrrrryyyy sloooowly for some reason! I've lost 10lbs since August but now I'm just stuck around this weight because I'm unmotivated and hungry! Believe me, i eat a lot--this week i've had two days around 3000, 1 day at 1300 (VERY low for me), 1 day at 1700, and 2 days at 2300 ish. i need to get this under control! My goal is 2000 for weight days, 1800 for cardio days, and 1500 for off days. It's painful for me to stop at 1500 so i've been going sky high lately but i need to reign it back in. SO, my goal is to lose 8.9lbs to get to 168lbs by Jan 1. *deep breaths* I'm scared! I haven't been that low since i was 15 Anyway, i plan on chowing down on t-day for sure...no calorie counting, multiple pieces of pie and helpings upon helpings of stuffing and potatoes. and then i'll be back to being good! thanks for startign the thread janay! |

yogs-i'm going really slow too :p. it's okay! what has helped me this time (one of the many weight-loss attempts) is to tell myself that i will ALWAYS have to workout and I will ALWAYS ahve to count cals. so when i get tired of working out or counting cals i just realize that i'm always going to have to do it and i'll be miles further from my goal if i stop now. Carol-sorry about the binge :( that sucks. just write it off as one night and move on which it looks like you are doing. maybe you need to raise cals a bit daily? i know i get especially bingy after vacation because i want to eat everything in site because i'm still in that 'relax' mode! good luck today.
Well, my weigh ins have been daily this week (for the most part) because i'd like to track my weight more closely. from last week till this week it's been swinging about 5lbs in the mornings. must've been retaining some water or something! so i'm at an all-time new low...175.2. pretty nice and i hope it sticks. my new goal for thanksgiving is to be around 174-175 pretty firmly. this past week it's been 175-180 so hopefully i can get the swings closer to the 175 by then. I'm pretty happy though, measurements are doing well although not going down as quickly as i'd like them to. i've decided that i will measure on my lowest weight day each week! today was one of my high days and i measured today and didn't lose much :( (could it have been the 2400 calories i ate yesterday??? ;)). oh well, onward and upward! oh...i am SO looking forward to thanksgiving. I am going to stuff myself with all the food i love for that one day. that one glorious day...YUM! |

Going to failure on each set for each bodypart is a bad idea--you put a lot of stress on the CNS doing that and you can't recover, hence feeling like you are going to die! And if you are doing full body workouts 3-4 times a week you are over-doing it for sure. 3 times a week is okay but absolutely no more than that. I agree with some of the others--you need to up the weight big time to be able to push out 5 reps and feel it, not to failure but they should be tough and you should be breathing hard and breaking a sweat with those 5 reps. You will see dramatic results as you are coming from no weight training. I'm a big proponent of full body workouts for beginners so i say keep with the program 2-3 times a week, do your 2-3 sets of each exercise and then move on to the next. Give it 2 weeks and you will see changes! Also, pre and post workout nutrition could be a factor--what are you eating before, during, and after the lifting? |

wow, look at all of us :) :) danielle-the marathon, I can't believe i missed that-congrats!!! that's amazing! and you LOOK amazing in that running gear! It's weird because we kind of look alike (face-wise) so I'm trying to imagine your body on my face...you are my goal! Well ladies, I weighed in at 177 on thursday (down .4 from last week...i'm happy with that) but then friday i weighed 180.2...i even cut sodium on thursday. Hmm, i don't typically weigh myself daily but i might start. I want to use my own scale but i need a battery. Maybe this week I'll get on that. In other weight news my pants fit lovely, my measurements are the same or down in all categories so I'm not really sure what's going on with my weight. I'm going to bring my cals down a bit for the next few weeks. they've been a bit high the last 2 so that might be the reason. i've averaged probably 2400/day which can probably explain the zero loss/gain in weight! so i'm bringing it down to 2000 lifting days, 1800 cardio days, 1500 rest days (sat and sun). so we'll see how that goes till thanksgiving...hope i can drop below 175 and keep it steady there. have a great day ladies! |

Genesis-i think that's the exact reason i'm not too good about losing and then maintaining the lower weight! i ALWAYS think i look fine...and I typically am a very happy person that ALWAYS feels relatively good about myself. So i've tried to find motivation from other places or stick to specific goals that maybe not be so much tied to what i think i look like. My first goal was to fit in my skinny jeans again--accomplished. now it's to fit into every pair of pants I own, if i like em or not. so i have another measure besides what i think i see in the mirror! ha! I see a six pack and a rockin booty right now :p...(not really, that's a joke!). so my weigh in this morning was 177.6 BUT my measurements are down!!! Woo HOO! after my horrific week last week i expected to see the up side of the scale but I did not expect measurements down. that is very exciting (of course it was boobs down but I'll take it). I also know I'm retaining some water because I'm VERY sore :(. Hopefully that will subside next week and I'll get a better reading. I'm feeling slim today, I like these days! hope everyone is doing well! |
