| Motivation | How to mentaly discipline your mind to lose weight | Oct 03 2008 14:07 (UTC) |

I write myself notes constantly. I also journal constantly. When I have an urge to go binge I look back on those journal entries and it helps. Right now I am trying to avoid mirrors but when I do get a glimpse of myself is just a reminder of how much I really need to stick to what I am doing. |

| Weight Loss | Oh No!! | Oct 02 2008 03:09 (UTC) |

Well first thing you need to do is to chill out and not freak out. It happens. Nobody is perfect and if you want to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle you have to realize that it isn't just about nutrition. Its also having a healthy mind. Its time to accept the fact that temptation is everywhere and sometimes you will give in. When you do enjoy it, savor it and relish in it. Then get back to what you were doing before. Try not to make it into a bigger deal then what it really isn't. And I say this with sincerity. I am not trying to be harsh or rude :) |

I can binge like there is no tomorow...It is truly difficult to control it at times. I can go through bowls of cereal, slices of bread, spreads of peanut butter, snickers, reeses, nestle chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich, bags of cookies, fast food. Oh god, i will just make myself ill. its disgusting. |

| Weight Loss | Going to bed hungry-Does anyone else find... | Sep 26 2008 13:48 (UTC) |

Well I have been on a 3 month binge (where they mostly occur a night). The last two nights I have not binged at all (woohoo). However at 2 o'clock last night I had the worst hunger pangs. Like my mouth was salivating and i felt like i was going to throw up. I know i am not really hungry, its just my stomach shrinking. I would just try to ignore it or drink a lot of liquids. |

| Foods | Have your tried canned pumpkin straight? | Sep 25 2008 23:09 (UTC) |
|
pumpkin right out of the can is gross!!! I like to mix it in oatmeal, cottage cheese and sometimes i just mix splenda and cinnamon into it which can be done while it is either hot or cold. if you heat it up, add the flavorings and then put some cool whip on it. super yummy |

I have been binging as well. I either eat in my car or sneak it in my purse up to my room. And I tell myself not to do it yet keep putting it into my mouth. I don't carry my debit card with me anymore so I can't make a pit stop before I go home and load up on crap. So you are not alone and we can defeat this. |

Wow!! Thanks for the post. I have been so unhappy for the past month for I too have put on 30 pounds from binge eating. I restricted cals from oct 2006 to june 2008, and lost 30 pounds. Was a happy 115. Then i just started eating. going though drive thrus, downing pints of ice cream, cookies, anything i could get my hands on. I have wasted a lot of money and am so unhappy. But it is a new beginning and we can do it. I am on day 2 haha. |

| Recipes | I had peach cobbler for breakfast!!! | Sep 18 2008 15:51 (UTC) |
2 |
1/2 cup oats cooked 1 cup water (could substitute milk/soymilk). once they are almost done cooking, throw in peaches. Can be frozen or fresh. Put on low heat and let peaches heat through. Then put in bowl. Add splenda (or whatever sweetener you prefer). Then add almonds (or granola/fiber one/whatever). Then i just put in a splash or two of soymilk. Not enough to drown the bowl but to make it a bit creamier. And eat. |

I used to love breakfast. However, it started having a weird effect one me. Instead of making me full, it started to make me even hungrier. It was like once I had food I just wanted more. I haven't stopped eating it but am trying to learn to say no to food once I am done with breakfast. Didn't matter what I ate either. But my fav breakfast is definitely oatmeal or eggs and toast. Pretty simple. |

My absolute fav is Taebo. You can add resistance bands, use the amplifier bar and its just fun to punch and kick. Plus, do that for an hour and you will burn mega calories. I tried the firm and could only do one workout. Not that it was hard but just so damn boring. |

| Weight Loss | Why do I do it to myself? | Sep 17 2008 21:36 (UTC) |

Wow. I can relate to you on every level. I used to be 115 and after moving in with my parents I am know a lovely 145. Yes, 30 pounds in less then 3 months. I don't know what happened to me. I used to be such a health freak who watched my calories like a hawk and then its like I just decided not to care. I would dig into the ice cream, eat cookies, go through the drive through after work. A couple of times I would go through several drive thrus. I didn't know what was wrong with me. It was like I wasn't conscious when I was eating all that food. And it would always be the "last time" Don't ever say that because if you mess up the next day then it just makes it harder, at least for me. There will never be a last time because you will have another cookie one day. Hopefully you will be able to just make it one. Well to help myself I joined a gym and have someone who I am accountable to. Also, I am isolating myself and i hate it. I want friends and I want to hang out. I am 19 for christs sake. So just remember you are not alone and you can do this. Thats all I can tell you. I can't give you much advice because I am barely able to just help myself at the moment. But good luck!!! |

Maybe try some of those jessica seinfield recipes where you hide the veggies in the meal. Maybe she has a recipe that he won't turn his nose up at and then when he's done be like "oh snap, look who just ate vegetables! Wasn't that bad was it?" Or maybe take him to a doctor who can tell him that if he keeps eating the way he is now with food that has no nutritional value that it will just lead him down a pathway of disease and being downright uhealthy. Maybe then he will be more willing to try new foods. If he still doesn't budge then I agree with the first poster. I am sorry but I am not going to be cooking separate meals for anyone I am with because they want to be picky. |

| Weight Loss | When you lose it... where does it actually go? | Sep 11 2008 21:32 (UTC) |
15 |
Your fat cells just shrink. It doesn't go anywhere. You use up the energy that is being stored up in your body as fat. I believe that you are thinking about it too literally. Your fat will only ever be "gone" if you lipo it out. You will always have fat cells it just depends on how big they are. |

Good luck. And its nice to know it is someone else's first day!! I have put on 20 lbs from restriction/binging cycle and I just joined a gym. My main problem is that I have been eating and not exercising. So hopefully even if i do binge, the exercise will thwart some of its damage. My main goal right now is to not eat after dinner because that is when my worst cravings strike. |

Sure they are skinny but half of them are SOOOOO unattractive that I'd rather keep my body and continue to make it better then have a thin rail body that seems to be what the world "wants". The only reason half of them look decent in their pictures is from all the damn makeup caked on thier faces. |

I can completely relate..however I have been doing those big binges for like 3 months now...at least 3 times a week. I know I don't have "water weight" but pure fat. Just get back on track and don't bother about weighing yourself. It might just discourage you. Start eating healthy again, exercise and that will most likely work better for you then seeing a false number on the scale that will not make you happy at all. |

When you have two people comment on how much better you look with the weight gain...one said it nicely the other not so nice. I know I have gained weight but I am not happy about it and it needs to go. The biggest indicator is when your pants just don't want to fit...and you have to confess that its not just "bloat" that will go away tomorrow but full on fat. :( |

| Weight Gain | peoples reaction | Aug 28 2008 13:37 (UTC) |

When I went from 130 to 115 I got a ton of negative comments, from my (step) grandmother in particular. She would make comments like "what are you eating?" and everytime I would see her she would comment on how "skinny" I looked but it wasn't a compliment. She said it with an edge of disgust in her voice. Then she would always give me lectures on how to eat healthy!!! Drove me crazy because i already knew what she was telling me and she made a point to talk about it everyday. Now that I am back to the 130 range (nasty story) she tells me about how gaunt and bascially nasty I looked back then. Even though it bothers me I felt good when I was 115 so I say f**k what she thinks. This is my body and my life. My mom on the otherhand didn't verbally react to my weight loss but instead lost a lot of weight herself as if it were a competition. Nonethess has created some hostility between us. In the end just do it for yourself. It is unfortunate that criticism comes from ones we love and love us but thats life. |

I too have a sweets addiction and one time I gave myself the challenge of not eating any sweets for an entire month. It was hard but i perservered through it and my cravings eventually went away. You gotta give a little to get a little. Just look at it as a challenge to yourself, because it sucks more when you let yourself down. At least to me it does. Good luck. |

| Weight Loss | Scared to go over 1200 cal/day | Aug 20 2008 23:57 (UTC) |
10 |
Okay, true story. I used to be one of those people who HAD to exercise every day and started to get stressed when I neared the 1000 calorie mark for the day, though made it most days to 1200, at the most 1250. So I did lose 30 pounds and felt great with my 5'4 115 pound self but i wasn't mentally or psychologically well or happy. Now, after all the year of restriction, I weight 130 pounds because i started eating how many cals I was supposed to be eating on most days and even more on other days. I suddenly went off the deep end because I had been so strict on myself before. From one end of the extreme to the other. Point is you need to find a happy middle so you aren't yo yoing, which will end up happening if you don't get things under control now. Raise your cals and if you gain some weight don't panic because that means that you were doing some harm to your body. Look at it as a chance to start anew. I am at 130 now trying to lose 15 pounds the healhty way. You can do it. Do not be afraid to eat. |
