don't feel too bad. I ate a Costco Apple Crumb muffin yesterday as a snack. Thats 920 calories. I knew they were bad but didn't realize how ridiculously bad they are. I feel horrible but what can you do, whats done is done. Best I can do is try very hard to never buy those darn things again! :)

Hi,

I first came across calorie counter last year and have been using it since on and off. At this point, I feel like I have a pretty accurate idea of what the nutritional value is for most foods that I generally eat so I don't think you will need to add up your colories forever. Eventually, you'll have a good sense of which foods/recipes are "good" and which are "bad" and you'll learn to balance your overall daily calorie consumption. Additionally, once you get to your goal, I don't think it will be as critical to be so precise. In maintenance mode, its probably ok to consume extra 100 calories here and there, as long as you don't make it a habit.

With that said, I do have to say that the act of logging the calories does help me tremendously to stay on track. I find that I loose weight faster if I am actually logging the calories every day. I am also more motivated to eat healthier if I am actually entering the calorie counts. To make it as easy as possible, I don't log activity (i look at it as a bonus :) and I don't log really really low calorie things like mustard or slice of tomato on my sandwich, etc.

hope this helps!

Hi,

1500 of well balanced diet should be good for you. however, if you are finding yourself slipping, it would be more effective to do 1600 and not slip. Do what you can realistically maintain, if you shoot for too low, you won't stick to it and will feel miserable. I read women should not consume less then 1400/day, its not healthy and if you excersize you need to compensate for that with extra calories. Thats how I am guessing 1500 should be ok for you. Just make sure eat healthy stuff- fruit, vegetables, whole grains, turkey, chicken breast, etc because with lower calorie diets its easy not to consume enough nutrients necessary to be healthy.

good luck!
