Heifer International has water buffalos and bees and llamas and other cool animals. Same idea as Oxfam, I think.

Splitrail - I LOVE that idea! It could be a year round smile. I often drive by houses with beautiful gardens and want to tell the gardner how much I enjoy their flowers.

When my kids were small we used to send toys to orphanages in Korea (2 of my children are Korean). Each kid decided what age they wanted to buy for and we did a couple of shopping trips for that. When they were older we did Angel Tree gifts through my ex's work. They picked out those gifts too.

My mother used to adopt a zoo animal in each grandchild's name. They got a stuffed animal from the zoo, a certificate, and an invitation to Zoo Parents' Night at the Zoo when the zoo was only open to people who had adopted animals.

I read "Coma" while working at a late night job at a college library. Not much business that night so I was able to read without interruption. At 2am the closing announcement came on and scared the crap out of me! I had been sneaking around all those bodies suspended in their comas... I thought I was done for! Crichton definately wrote engaging stories. R.I.P.

Check out Mary Shomon's website Thyroid Disease. Lots of good stuff there. Have you had all your thyroid levels tested? Your T3 & T4 should be checked as well as your TSH. Definately go to an endocrinologist and plan on at least yearly visits. There are subtle differences in different brands of replacements. I can't stand Levoxel but do well on a combination of Synthroid and Cytomel (T3).  feel best when I'm at the high end of all the levels. Good luck. It can be very frustrating!

Fidget - GET OVER IT! There are similar threads on the weight loss side too.  (http://caloriecount.about.com/silly-things-mo tivate-ft118661) If you don't want to read this then DON"T!! I pop onto the weight gain threads sometimes to remind myself that there is another side of the weight issue than mine.

We match! I lost 43 pounds since January and have 62 to go! It does feel like it's going to take forever and most days when I look in the mirror I can't see much difference. Other people see a thinner me and I do feel better. Guess it's just a long haul! WE CAN DO IT!!

I only watched Buffy sporadically but I suppose its time to put it in my Netflix queue. Loved Firefly and Serenity. My BF ripped all the Firefly DVDs to his computer and watches them while he analyzes scientific data (certified nerd!). I sit with my back to him so I can recite much Firefly dialog but don't often gaze upon Mal... I have the Firefly theme song as BF ringtone. Favorite episode anyone? Mine is "Our Mrs. Reynolds."

Cheat days are great! Knowing there is a day when I will plan to cheat makes it easier to stay on track the rest of the time. Yesterday ended up with an unplanned cheat lunch. The chili called and I answered! I have been really hungry all week and succombed to the chili yesterday. I ate a Kashi dinner & ended up on track for the day. Today I am following my usual plan and not feeeling deprived. Up with Ben & Jerrie's! And chili! And sugar cookies!

A slip was my first reaction too! I like that dress best and the red one second.

Smiling while you talk on the phone makes you feel more cheerful so you sound that way. You will feel more comfortable even thought the situation is not so comfie.

Weight Loss Diet Soda Anyone? Oct 07 2008

am trying to cut out regular soda too though.  But artificial sweetners taste awful and I don't want to get used to them.      Did you like them the first time?

I hate them. My bf is always trying to get me to drink Dieta Orange Fanta but it tastes awful. He is a scientist and says there is research somewhere that suggests a genetic component determines whether artificial sweeteners taste good or leave the nasty aftertaste.

I gave up Fat Coke (the classic red can stuff) when I started trying to lose weight. I find that drinking it sets up a craving. I love a nice cold Coke with lots of ice but if I drink it today I will want it tomorrow even more. I switched to plain water. For a very rare treat I drink an IBC Root Beer. Bubbles, sugar, no craving!

I had trouble with this too. The real directions are pretty well hidden. From the Tips on recipes:

You can specify any item from our database to be used as an ingredient by entering its ID in square brackets

1 cup milk [88683]

So how on earth do you find that number?? Go to the Food Browser and find the item. Click it. The numbers are at the very end of the URL. Add them as directed above and it works!

Eggplants are kinda egg shaped. Aubergine is a much more harmonious name but I'd get laughed at if I went to Original Italian and ordered "aubergine parmesan"!

Escargot. They sound nasty but I love mussels and they look nasty too.

I don't think any pumpkin parts are poisonous. The seed kernels are good too. Pumpkin muffins are delicious! They call to me from Dunkin' Donuts as I drive by this time of year. Or from Great Harvest... oh and Pumpkin Roll with cream cheese filling... Must stop now and go drink cold water to get over pumpkin frenzy.

Wow! I used cloth diapers 20 years ago. I had NO idea such choices even existed now. Amazing! I used cloth on 2 kids. I used hand-me downs on the first baby but happily, by the time the second one was born, diaper service was available in my area. It was worth every penny! Good luck!

Hev you checked out the website by Mary Shomon? She is one of Experts on CC and has a very informative site about thyroid disorders and treatment. My first endorcinologist went "by the numbers". I have Grave's DIsease and had RAI so am now hypothyroid. My TSH numbers said I was fine but I felt crappy. My current endocrinologist agreed to let me try a combination of T4 (Synthroid) and T3 (Cytomel). I find I function best at a TSH level that falls into the very high normal range. I also found a big difference between brands of thyroid medication. Synthroid works best for me but not for my cousin. Anyway, good luck with finding a good diagnosis.
