i had the same kind of problems as you. i was anorexic but only reallt for a couple of months properly luckily. i lost my period for a few months and my doctor said it was very imprtant i get it back. apparently whilst you are not menstruating the calcium is getting leeched from your bones..i cant reemeber exactly but all i know is what the doctor said freaked me out.

the fact you are over exercising so much, i doubt it would come. i do undersatdn though ebcause i did the same thing. when i did start eating about 1500 calories a day a exercised like a maniac and somehow justified it as healthy in my mind. this was actually far more detrimentral to my health than simply restricting was. your body must be in shock from over exercsing and over exercising can be so dangeroius. congratulations on chosing to recover though, and if you dont already include lots of good fats. i literally had a month of eating a good source of unsaturated fat each day like an avocado, salmon, bag of nuts e.t.c and my period came back. though i undersatnd yours has been absent longer than mine.  the fact your period isnt bac shows your body is not working, so even if you are feeling better, which is great and im happy you are, there still isnt enough energy in your body for your body to be able to menstruate, which is not healthy. as soon as you cut back on exercsise im sure you will get it back, and i wish you the best of luck in your recovery.

on another note could i just as you if you ever experienced hair loss? this seemed to of been my worst side effect and it has been so latent it has hit me a few months after recovering and is terrible atm. i was unsure if many anorexics get this?

well in england you can get small little peanut bar which help me cos i had a similar problem like you..its so addicitve i could so easily eat the jar in one sitting i swear...

theres one called mr tom which is a bit bigger, its just peanuts and syrup, its not the healthiest but its better than crisps or chocolate! lots of coffee shops have nut bars and i find the peanut ones are really nice...when i have these i find i dont crave peanut butter. good luck!

a lot of people might think it'ls bc of lack of protein... but it can also be from a lack of fat in your diet. during my anorexic stage, i was losing around 150 hairs a day. for about a year!!! :( i felt horrrible about myself. but i WAS getting enough protein (60 grams/day) from egg whites, tofu, etc. when i tried to recover, i kept everything the same EXCEPT that i added 15 almonds, 15 cashews, 1-2 tbs of pb to my diet a day (sometimes less, like 10 nuts each). after three months of doing that (which is how long your hair taks to respond to a change in diet or lifestyle), my sheddidng has slowed down. yeah, it still does fall out, but only like 10 or 15 MAX per day. i hope this helps! Oh, and take a multivitamin just in case:)

thank you, i will try and include more nuts in my diet..i have pb quite a  lot too, i guess hopefully it will get  better, its only been nearly 2 months atm. congrats on revoery btw, i know its hard. and 10 or 15 max sounds very healthy im sure most people lose wayyy more than that! thanks again

i dont get this, bread is not bad at all. in fact wholemeal is very very good for you, it contains vitamins and is a great carb source. people brand certain foods bad and fattening but they are only bad or fattening when in excess and along with an otherwsiee bad diet. i have to say i ate terribly and lost a lot of weight unheathily an regret it so much but even when i was doing this i ate atleas 2 slices of bread a day. bread is good, just stick to wholemeal and dont eat too much of it, like with anything. :)

hey, i had a really similar situation to you, i wouldnt say i was anorexic but i ate no fat too and had a very restrictive diet for a couple of months back in april time i think. my period stopped for 2 months but literally when i ate a lot of good food for a month i got my period back. i then got it again the next month but after 6 weeks not 4, but thats better than nothing.

i think you may not be gaining because the food it being used to replenish lost muscle mass and organs e.t.c. when you deprive our body so much, atleast i foudn that i started bigneing almost and only gained a couple of pounds, i think your body just takes it and uses it for parts of your body that were suffering. i found after a couple of weeks i started gaining more, and i luckily didnt gain anymore once i wa sback to my normal pre diet weight.i now mantain at abut 8.5 - 9 stone, but i dont weigh myself anymore.

id say dont worry about it, weigh yourself once a week or go by your clothes. its good to ehar you are inckuding lots of healthy fats, these seemed to help me get my period back so hopefully it will help you. avocados are great!

can i jsut ask you did you experince hair loss? i have been since my stupid diet, it is very latent but appretnyl my docotor said it was related to the hormone change when i missed my period.

good luck on getting back healthy, id give it a good few months to reallt see the results but your body will be thanking you.

Weight Gain How can I make myself feel hungry again!? Jul 31 2008

Heya, first of congrats on recovery. i recently recovered to, i found the first month i had no appetitte at all.

it takes time, which is annoying to hear but its true. start eating at a routine, similar times each day, eat snacks a few times even if your not hungry, eat small and often intially and this should help to bring your appetitte back up.

i just ate a good breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, pudding, evening snack all without any hunger and the first 2 weeks odd it was very bloating but the bloating should soon go, and your metabolism will pick up. our bodies are very able to change when given a chance, and im sure you will get it bac again soon.

exercise, only light, like jogging for twenty minutes really did help me with eating, days i exercised i actually felt hungry for lunch so i would suggest light acticity if your disorder was not that of over exercising otherwise, i would avoid this as it could become addictive.

like gi jane said, swap skim milk for fat, increase portion sizes gradually, use higher fat cheese e.t.c no low fat foods.

give it a few weeks and you should find your hungry again! its great when you hear your tummy rumble again lol!
