Hey folks, here's my report -- week one of February Fab -- (14 weeks to go!) Weight -- down 1.5# Inches -- down 2 ( 1 on waist, 1 on booty, started weights and yoga again...exercise the miracle drug!) Also did some hiking in the Tennessee hills, and some bush-whacking, leaf-blowing, flower-planting, and debris hauling (my mom lives on a big hill, so each time a bag is full you must drag it to the curb just about straight up from the back yard.) I am eating about 95 percent clean, though SO got some coffee ice cream last night, I did have a serving and enjoyed every bite. It wasn't low-fat, low-sugar, or low-anything. Worth all 220 calories. Thanks all for the smoked salmon ideas. We will try them this weekend. I have clients or a meeting just about every night this week. It's OK though as we need the $$. Speaking of which, I'm off for my walk and to make today's deposit. Hey, how about some cold weather exercise ideas?! 1) Bundle up and collect 35 different kinds of leaves 2) Do a "10 -hill" minimum bike ride. (Believe me, you'll be warm by hill #1!) 3) See how fast you can fill 5 leaf bags (good to do w/ hubby) 4) Put Halloween candy upstairs and run up there to get the bowl for every trick or treater at the door. 5) POWER DOGGIE WALKING! Warmly, RG

Amen Boots. The racial and fundamentalist undertones of this campaign are just about too much too take. We worry that fear leads to poor and uninformed decisions. In our house we have both parties. So we listen to each other and make our independent decisions. Our main concerns this time around are economics and peace. (We also read the handouts from the non-partisan League of Women Voters.) A group of we neighbors all walk to the polls together on election day, then go have coffee. We have turned off our TV until after election day. Well the first week of the February Fabulosity plan is going OK. Highlights have included brussel sprouts, butternut squash, lean turkey burgers, fat-free/sugar-free vanilla yogurt, natural applesauce, and 5-bean casserole with turkey sausage. Getting the exercise in, feeling a bit peckish at times (mostly in the morning), but sticking to the 1400-1700 calorie plan. Counting each day again, I didn't realize I was throwing in about a snack and a half too many each day. I have substituted hot tea, or a crystal light, or an apple for these snack overages. Seems like a good trade. I am driving to Knoxville TN today to visit my mom, and help her with the fall yardwork and landscaping. Taking my bike and hope to get some rides in, enjoying the foliage of the "south." My bro and sister-in-law will also come on Saturday. My SO can't go, he must work on inventory and new computer system at the plant. Ah well, next time. I have chosen Mondays for my weekly check-ins/progress reports, so have a good weekend all and see you soon. (PS -- any ideas what to make with some smoked salmon? I was thinking quesadillas w/ low-carb tortillas but would love some ideas.) Patriotically, - RG |

(Peeks in, waves howdy to pals and those not yet met...) Hey, it's RG. Stamping my feet and putting hands in my jacket to get warmed up. Walking the pooch it was 29 degrees this AM!! Brrrrr) Glad to see many new folks as I skimmed through the posts. My thoughts are with KK, coming so far and finding yet more challenges on her wellness road. I find it a bit unfair but send her healing white light in my thoughts!! Boots, congrats on the move and new job, 2BB I hope your hubby takes it easy and feels better. Safina, if you go to the gym for 7 days in a row, it will become a habit. You can do it! Vstar, do you need to take a baking hiatus for awhile? I love to bake too, but find I sample too much. Well it's fall so that means back on the wagon time. Wedding, honeymoon, and the stress of owning too many properties in the down market have taken their toll. Y'know the drill, getting out of the habit of weighing and measuring food, a few special treats with the SO, partaking in the appetizer and extra bread when dining out (bread, my downfall...) Getting busy and not accounting to yourself on line. Aaah, call me Cleopatra, Queen of DeNial. Following our trip to Key West, I was up to 210 (up 14# from my low, I'm shocked and dismayed how fast it comes back), and last Friday weighed in at 205 after 2 weeks of getting a grip and starting the fall bike racing season. After a pitiful performance the first two races of the season, and almost quitting, yesterday I managed to get a 3d place podium. The women in 1st and 2d were 15 years younger than me so I'll take it. It's amazing what every 5 pounds can do to get you spinning up the hills. 2BB do you still keep your "weight box?" While racing, I kept visualizing how much more difficult it would be to race with a 5-pound bag of flour strapped to my back (or to my a**, in my case, LOL) So friends, join me in my "30 pound plan." (or make it a "15 pound plan," or a "7.5 pound plan", whatever works...) 15 weeks, and that'll take us to Fabulous Feb. Fifth. Goal of 1.5# a week would be nice. Track the food. Exercise 5 out of 7 days. Discipline through the holiday time. 1400 - 1750 calories, more on big workout days. (Hey this all sounds familiar!) No high fructose corn syrup, no simple sugars, 54/24/22, carbs, protein and fats. Save room for a few holiday treats and toasts. My exercise plan is to GET OUTSIDE whenever possible. I have been bike racing on the weekends, and training two nights a week for that. Friends talked me into training for the Thanksgiving 10K, so that's two mornings a week. One night of yoga, and I've got my five days scheduled. Core strength and flexibility/weights class in the gym will start Nov. 1st for 10 weeks, so that's covered, too. Post your plan, your menus, let's start a "healthy soup" recipes shareathon. I have a butternut squash I plan to bake up with some veggies and turkey sausage. I will be eating honeycrisp apples in support of the challengers, as well. Yummy. Carry on! -RG |

Hi friends, it's RG, or "Mrs. McDaniel," hey I can't get used to it either! We survived and thrived 180 family and friends for about 6 days milling about town, in and out of the house, eating, and visiting, and dancing, and drinking a few beers. Thought I'd share an update! It went very quickly, after 15 months of planning. I only wish we'd had more time to talk with all the wonderful friends who joined us for the event. I've posted a couple of photos in my profile, one of Mike and I, daughter Sarah, and her SO and son (did I mention I skipped over motherhood and went straight to "nana"-hood?). The other photo is of my side of the family, my mom, brother Peter and his wife. Twas a beautiful day on the Ohio river. We started out with a bike ride w/ about 16 of us, rode the bike trail for coffee in Loveland (Forksie's neck of the woods, how 'bout that??). We bought bride and groom jerseys, I also attached a veil onto my helmet. All the other riders got a big kick out of it. We rode about 25 miles total, it was a cool, sunny morning. Got home and found out I started TTOM, ah such is life! Always knew it was a possibility, but you try and psych these things out and I find that usually doesn't work very well. Mike and I just had to laff, good thing our wedding trip to Key West doesn't start for another two weeks. I proceeded to drink about a gallon of water as to appear less "puffy" but what're ya gonna do, just go on with everything! Fortunately I had the right clothes and high-tech underwear to make the most of my "assets" and everything turned out OK. The red dress was a big hit. I painted henna tatoos on my hands and feet, an homage to Buddhism and eastern spirituality, and the hall was decorated very colorfully. We walked in to "Blackbird," by the Beatles, and shared unity candles lighting with all the guests. My bro sang "You Are So Beautiful," to wrap up the ceremony. We danced our wedding dance to "At Last," by Etta James, sung live by our friends, The Sloes, and invited all the married couples on to the dance floor to join us. Group by group, those married less than 10 years, less than 20, less than 30, less than 40, and less than 50 years left the floor. Finally, Dot and Elmer Geers remained, married 54 years young. We presented Dot with a replica of my bouquet, and took a picture of she and Elmer with Mike and I. Not a dry eye in the place! The cakes were baked by my yoga teacher, they were incredible, in look and taste (carrot w/ cream cheese). Mom took one home to her deep freeze and we'll eat it in 363 days for our anniversary. We danced until about 11:30, and made out way back home finally about 1 am. Sunday the whole fam damily came to our house for brunch. Everybody left Monday morning and we did nothing but lie around for the rest of the day, oh yeah we watered the garden and washed cars, and gave the animals a bath but now we're back to "real" life. Love all your lists and goals, my goal is to get back to my diligence and nutrition plan. More later on that front. I have a bike race tonight, and one next weekend, that should get me back on track. Happy September, all. Mrs. RG |

Hey can any ol' prodigal member post here?! Hello possums, it's erstwhile RG. About 3 weeks away from SO Mike and my wedding. Check out the little website I built, it's been working pretty well to organize the guests, info, etc. Where has the summer gone??? I have skimmed through and look to have missed some things, I'm sorry I haven't been able to post more often. Time is a thief and mine has been taken up by other tasks this summer. I do appreciate everyone's "can do" attitude, getting positive with setbacks, and getting organized with goal setting. We have both been working alot, getting settled in our new home, getting used to the "coupledom" thing (mostly me), ha, and, sadly, working to sell Mike's house in this horrible marketplace. We are switching realtors as I write this. So $$ has been tight the whole six months we've been here, but we are managing to get it together. My little garden is beautiful, tomatoes just starting to come in, and we eat fresh herbs of some kind almost every night. I am "creative pesto" grrrl these days, we freeze it in ice cube trays, then throw a few squares in w/ veggies, pasta, or protein. I have been riding to the farmer's market to supplement veggies every few days, the asparagus and zucchini have been outstanding this year. A Whole Foods opened nearby recently, and we have gotten some great organic chicken, tasty tilapia, and some homemade chicken sausages to grill and eat in different formats through the week. (I tend to go, straight protein, pita sandwich, casserole, and omelet for what's ever left by the end of the week. Oh yeah, with some grilled fish tacos thrown in from time to time for good measure.) We've been riding around 100 miles a week average, have done two "centuries" this summer, 100 miles in one day. One was a benefit for Breast Cancer research in June, the other just for fun in July. During the second, we crossed the Ohio River twice, once by bridge, the other by ferry boat. With everything going on, I try to post my calories but don't beat myself up too bad if I don't. I have been strict with portion control, watching sugar intake, and getting my workouts and measurements in. I'm not trying to lose any more right now, it's a bit too much stress, so am working on toning in the waist, core, and arms with gym workouts. I fluctuate around 194-197. It's OK, though sometimes I get a little bummed out 'cause wanted to be at the 175 holy grail by now. Ah well. Have also been swimming a couple times a week with a friend, and did 2 5K races this summer for good measure. Friends, it's funny. I am NOT a shopper. I do not enjoy shopping, going to the dressing room, comparing and contrasting items, or spending money generally. In fact, I am known to be FRUGAL (cheap, to some.) LOL. If I can't buy it at Target, it pretty much doesn't exist for me. And of course I still have some of the old trepidation from the days of trying to shop for a 290 lb person. As you all know, it SUCKS to shop for clothes when you get up to sizes you know are not "normal" for you! My SO, OTOH, is a shopaholic. He even pays (GASP) rrrrrrETAIL sometimes. He knows all the spots for kewl and high quality goods. So let's just say my wardrobe, for casual stuff, is a bit...wanting. I've plenty of nice work clothes, tailored and purchased over time to fit me, and because I'm tall, they have accomodated 30-40 lb. weight swings in the past. However, everything else I own is either 3.99 shorts, or free tshirts I've accumulated from 10K runs, volunteer events, and bike rides. Oh yeah, and sweats/yoga pants. SO is vocal in his dislike for these items. SO has had enough of this. So with all the wedding pre-dinners, family gatherings, visits, and photographs coming up, last night he became my personal shopper and got me all decked out at the Eddie Bauer store. Can I just say he found me the best pair of jeans I have ever worn? My measurements these days are 36-30-40, and their jeans have a bit of spandex in them for comfort as well as makes them look like you're a fashion model. He also found me great fitting capris in white, black and navy, some blouses and sleeveless numbers, and a pretty flowered skirt with lime green t-shirt. Whoo hoo, now I won't have to buy clothes for another 5 years, ha!(good motivation to stay on the CC bandwagon, no??!) And all the summer stuff was on sale, making me quite happy to put up with all the dressing room crap. And the clothes were well made for we gals with some "junk" in the "trunk." Yay Eddie Bauer! So hope everyone got a laff or two from my update. I will post the wedding photos when I have them, it will be at sunset on August 30th. We are walking in to "blackbird" by the Beatles, and the song of celebration (sung by my brother) will be "You are so Beautiful." We have written our vows, the preacher's been hired, and all our friends and family will gather round as we light a unity candle and pass the flame from person to person. Then of course some supper, a few drinks, some dancing, singing, and pickin' and grinnin', and we'll be hitched. Best to all, know I'm here lurking even if not always on CC or posting every week. TTFN Fondly, RG |

Hiya Junos and Junettes... RG here, thanks for not forgetting me. I just spent an hour skimming the board to see how you all are doing, enjoying the new photos and sounds like a good bit of clean eating going on. I am OK, working out, working, counting when I can. More often than not I do not have the time or energy to post, and SO and I have a "no laptop in the boudoire" rule (nor TV either...) so have been choosing sleep and family time over journal postings and such on CC. But here on Monday eve I find myself with a few free moments, so an update as we head into real summer of 08. Some friends are having a summer solstice cookout this weekend so there may be some clothing optional interpretive dance, you never know. I am holding steady around 195-196, carving away ounces, not pounds at a time. It ain't easy, as I've gathered from everyone's theme/challenge of the month. We have been doing long bike rides one day out of each weekend (usually 80-100 miles), leaving the house 5:30 - 6 am, and rolling back in around 1ish or so. Boy the fitness really comes back with those fat-burners. SO surprised me with a gym membership to the sports club close to the house (maybe I mentioned before?), so we have been lifting weights for 40 min about 3 times a week, hitting the outdoor pool on Friday evenings, and taking advantage of the indoor track when the weather is bad. I'm trying to tone up my arms and upper body some more for the sleeveless dresses I'll be wearing for my brother's wedding in July, then our wedding in August. I've been wearing my heart rate monitor during workouts, and have seen some marked improvement as we've been riding more. I'm also getting my normal summer "bike rider's tan", with lines where my shorts end on my thighs, white looking hands where my gloves cover, and the edge of my shoulders where the sleeveless jersey lies. Helped administer a ride/race charity event this past weekend, hosting +300 athletes for a weekend of riding and racing just north of Cincinnati. I did the PR, fundraising, volunteer recruitment and on-site management of the people/course resources so it was quite a weekend. We had a successful weekend and raised some $$ for Parkinson's research, tho' about 18-hour days for me leading up to it, and until last night at 8:30 or so. Have another one coming up the 28-29th of the month. (My consulting business contracts for this type of work with the charitable or athletic promoters). We stopped and got some "comfort food" -- smoked chicken, green beans, and yup, some mac and cheese from the local barbeque joint. Oh it was so good. I had been eating baby carrots and grapes from the cooler all weekend, with a few chicken sandwiches thrown in augmented with gatorade and some handfuls of dried fruit. I did bring my instant oatmeal for brekkie each day, I was going to eat some fries on Saturday night, but nodded off at the restaurant table and they shoo-ed me up to my room (what a party animal.) This warmer weather and increased workouts makes me want salty things, so try to keep it in moderation. I find I'll workout very hard, eat the appropriate number of calories, have a salty snack or two (pretzels always get me), then I'll go up a couple of pounds for 5-6 days, then drop 3-4 soon after that. My weight chart looks like the roller coaster of Luv, but still downward overall so you can't beat that with a stick or a brick! OK, time to feed the kitties and get organized for work tomorrow, big client meetings on Wednesday that are stressing me out, this too shall pass! Take care, all... Fondly, RG |

(*RG, dressed in black, sneaks into the storage area of G4G Hall, dragging burlap bags marked "confetti", "wildflower seeds," and "black oil sunflower." Working quickly, she replaces gunpowder and iron shot with enviro-friendly materials, in anticipation of 2BB's crew. Quickly replacing everything to look normal, she sneaks out the back, smiling over the "sustainability" shots from the cannon to come, hoping all will be shot over the nearby meadow that will then be planted from Ol' Betsey's ordinance.) Hello, kittens. RG here, hope all is well -- you're all finding some motivation amidst the chaos. I wish I had more time to journal and muse here whitcha, but alas I am in the midst of many work and volunteer projects and the warm weather takes me outdoors and to other activities and responsibilities. I helped lead "The Ride of Silence" this past week; a slower bicycle ride, in silence that bears tribute to those who have been injured or killed in car/bike accidents this past year. Our town was named one of the most UN-Friendly Bicycle Cities in the US recently, so we also used the event to advocate for more support with the local governments. We had about 200 riders show up on the city square. I met some nice ladies, new to cycling, that just finished running the Flying Pig Marathon. I've been seriously considering making a commitment to train for it in 2009; perhaps I've found the friendly group I need to help me get ready! A woman called "Hope" (her real name), and I exchanged contact information, I'll help her learn to ride/race and she'll help me get ready for the running race. I'm thinking the half marathon (13.2 miles) to avoid injuries and guarantee success. (I've tried to train for a full marathon 3 times previously, and have always quit due to injury, or fear, or both.) SO came home with a surprise 2 weeks ago; membership to the local Sports Club only a mile away from our home. Also he brought a promise to help me weight train and work on intervals together. We've been going to do our workouts every other day -- if I have someone to help me "pump iron," I don't get so bored and stick with it. Happy to report my weigh in today is 199.3, pretty psyched. I can really feel the difference on my bike when climbing the hills of Southern Ohio. Plus it doesn't hurt that my 45-year-old waist is shrinking from the ab work, combined with my yoga, bicycling, and swimming early in the morning 3 days a week. (there's a pool at the club, too, YIPPEE). I've been "cycling" on my calories, too, anywhere from 1500 to 2100 depending on how much I'm working out. In my 8-week plateau I was inclined to cut way back to 1200 but I resisted (just about the hardest thing ever -- can't seem to ever get rid of that tape that plays in my head -- "Starve to lose, Starve to lose..."), and made a choice to EAT TO LOSE, and decided to bump up the exercise and really take a crack at reducing sodium and it seems to have worked for now. Still have my 175 goal far ahead in the sunset, don't know if I'll make it there by our wedding on August 30th but I'm going to try. I'm also trying not to be so "wedding-centric," it's only one day after all. I would love to be shopping for a cute bathing suit for our trip to Key West on September 20th. September 20th is also the 3rd anniversary of my commitment to health. 9/20/05 I started this journey (for the umpteenth time) at 290 pounds. Just FYI to all you sistah slow losers. And I've had some big set-backs along the way in the last 3 years. I so wanted to just throw in the towel after my 22-pound gain in 2007. Seemed like just a few beers, rich desserts, and grilled cheese sammiches, and one two many nights sitting on the couch, and BLAM! the fat suit was back... But I managed to get my s*** together and remember that health is the primary reflector of a life well-lived. Do you ever feel the real you is trapped inside a fat suit? So easy to put on, so hard to take off. Then once you take it off, being OK with showing your real soft, creamy center to the world. What a head trip! Let's see, do I have any new fun food facts? - Sun-dried tomato: can get a big bag at Costco, great in meat loaf, salads, and tossed with steamed veggies - I have re-created a healthy Shepherd's Pie recipe with ground turkey, and Yukon gold potatoes. I'll post the recipe in the proper section here on CC. - It's the season for fresh herbs -- we have oregano, rosemary, and thyme in our porch pots, I've been using them almost everyday for cooking. Yummy on omellets, especially. - Favorite snack -- oatmeal with cranberries. I keep a tub in the fridge and warm up 1/2 cup at a time. Well, friends, TTFN, I will try to get here once a week, I'll post my nutrition and other stats next week for my monthly accountability report. Welcome to all the new posters and lurkers, and big love to the originals of the G4G Gang! Slimmingly, RG |

Hi all -- vstar, nice to see you on Eastern Std Time, sounds like a fun time. I think I will get the dress for my brother's wedding in July at JC Penney, pretty nice designs, and definitely the right price! I'm only finding the time to post a few times a week. We always seem to have something going on, and I don't sit with the laptop so much as I did when I lived alone (therefore less posting, in the evening especially.) We had fun this weekend volunteering for the bike safety corps with the Flying Pig Marathon here in town. I rode downtown, then with the women's half-marathon, then back up the hill to meet SO to supervise miles 12 - 14.5. We went up and down a big hill for about two hours. A beautiful day for the event, though I didn't like the new finish line down behind the stadium, it was not pretty or along the river at all. Previous years have been much more scenic. We had about 50 miles in by the time we were done, that's a good workout for the day. Spent some time on-line over the weekend and got all our travel arrangements made; to Boston in July for my bro's wedding (including car, hotels, etc.), then our wedding trip to Key West the 3d week of September. We were able to use ff miles for the Florida trip, so that was only $20 out of pocket, a nice way to go. We also decided to make it the "Summer of Fitness," and put together a workout schedule that we'll both do individually, as well as picked rides, lifting weights, and a couple races we'll do together. SO is in Chicago on business until Thursday, so it's pretty quiet 'round here. Maybe I can get caught up on some work, though my desktop computer has been on the fritz and frustrating me like crazy. Maybe time for a new one (it's 4 years old...) I have to keep a PC around as so much software for my work is only compatible on those machines (tho' I'm really so much more a Mac person and couldn't live w/o my laptop...) I planted some wildflower seeds on Saturday, and noticed they are already coming up today, love that immediate gratification gardening. Had no loss this week, still hovering over 200, and its ttom for me, too. I may take a month and then weigh in again officially; that seems to be the way to go now and I can re-evaluate my diet, and get a "broad view" as we head into the busy summer. Nice to see Boots, so sorry to hear of your nana, hope you can remember and laugh at the good times you had. Hey, Jella, Forksie, and 4SQ the over-achiever! And congrats Tamleech on the new addition to your family. 2BB, sounds like the change of scenery will be good, I was worried about ya with the recent bad weather in your neck of the woods. Oops, there's a client at the door for a meeting, gotta run. Take care all, Springily, RG |

Happy trails vstar and molly -- remember it's the journey, not the destination! Have fun with those workouts, explore, make each one a mini-adventure, and then tell us all about it! Sorry I have been so remiss in my postings, working on a big case that doesn't look like it's going to resolve anytime soon, but called in some experts today and feel much better about everything. Hmm, why is it hard to ask for help sometimes? I'm not a bible-studier like Forksie, but I like that idea that you have to surrender sometimes and ask for help. It's always how I learn, at least. We had some chicken/veggie steamed potstickers for supper, with a heaping pile of veggies. I laughed at SO chasing his dinner around with chopsticks. Finally I relented and gave the boy a fork. Yippee, I've got 50 grams of fiber in for May Day (there's a joke in there somewhere, but I'll relent...) Our wedding is Aug. 30th, thanks for asking! A big picnic with BBQ, lots of family and friends, and a view of the Ohio River. We picked carrot cake the other day, and don't have a certain "color," multi-colored tables, twinkly lights, Tibetan prayer flags fluttering (I am a wanna-be Buddhist), and flowers on the table. My friend's band, The Sloes (google them if you want to hear their tunes...) will play, and my brother and a few others will sing. And I have a red dress, ooh la la. SO will wear a silk shirt and shorts. Shoes and gifts optional for all. Still have tons of work tomorrow, plus get out the April billing. Please post your vacations so I can live vicariously! LOL - RG |

Morning friends... Sounds like everyone had a busy weekend. We did, as well. Friends over on Friday for "pizza night", I am into making a healthy, high-fiber dough with yummy toppings, and cook it on the pizza stone in our new "Pillsbury Bake-off Kitchen." Also it was a little thank you for friends who helped us move, and a nice night of food and friendship for our friend KW who's just been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She needs all the "normal" she can get right now. Saturday we rode in the morning, got home and gardened like maniacs, then got cleaned up and joined another couple for supper at a local place we like. I had roasted veggies, chicken roasted with balsamic vinegar, and spinach fettucini, all with a sprinkling of feta goat cheese. (Feta is not too bad as cheeses go, about 80 kcal/oz). I'll call it my "recovery" meal after all the activity on Saturday that I logged! Sunday we slept in and that felt, well, just downright fantastic. I decided not to race; I'm just not physically ready yet and there's plenty to sign up for in May. Took the pooch for a long walk, did a few things around the house, then went over to the municipal airport for their open house. (SO is an erstwhile pilot, has his license but hasn't kept up with the flying time hours, I think that will be his retirement gig as a part-time pilot...) Anyway, they had the old Piper Cubs out, the open-air 2-seaters, the Lear Jets, and all the newest models as well, so we had a good time walking around to look at everything. Later in the afternoon, my pastry chef friend stopped by with samples and we selected which cake we want for our wedding in August. We chose carrot cake with the cream cheese icing. She's going to do a series of 5 round cakes in different colors, with bright decorations and flowers (think Austin Powers groovy) that we'll display on a table with different height cake plates. The caterer will doing BBQ brisket, chicken, and pork, with green beans, corn on the cob, and their famous Mac and Cheese. We're going for a big, casual, bright picnic atmosphere, on the river with a great view. So it's good to have that all arranged. All that's left to do is get the invites printed, send them out, order our rings, and recruit some volunteers to help with the set-up and clean-up. I'm trying to make the planning low-stress, and look forward to the big gathering and celebration. Still watching the calories closely, must be why I'm so "food-focused" in this post today; my day-to-day diet is kinda boring. I think this week or next I can apply for the below 200 trophy, if but for a fleeting moment. Mainly I just want to fit into SO's old Levi's, LOL! (Anyone else NEVER worn a single-digit size in their life??!) That's OK though, it'll be heaven if I can just throw on a pair of size 12 jeans, what fun. The phone is ringing, must get to work. TGIM for you workaholics; make it a great day no matter what! Cheerily, RG |

Good job, 4SQ. Are you eating enough calories with all your exercise? If that's the case, you'll probably tone, tone, tone, then drop some lbs once your new fitness level evens out. I'm lurking most days, finally a chance to post. Met 3 friends about 6 pm last night, and we did our 30 mile cheerful ride, to downtown, across the river, and back home again. Takes a little less than 2 hours, so a decent workout plus some time to enjoy the scenery. We happily pedaled past a big traffic jam of frustrated looking people burning the "liquid gold" in their tanks. I'm a big supporter of "riding to the ride," though do have a bike rack on my car and all that. It's really fun to just ride down the driveway on my way to the workout, then pedal on back home. Tuesday I did my jog up the hill to yoga class, then after class strolled on back home. I've also been taking the bus when I have business downtown, our goal is to save $1500 this year by using alternate transportation (partly because SO has such a killer commute!) Twas a gorgeous day in southern Ohio, I took some time to water the plants outside and check to see what's coming up in the beds at the new house. The white lilacs began to bloom today, and the purple are not far behind. Hydrangeas are starting to leaf out, as well as the lavender. I planted some purple petunias, johnny jump-ups, and pansies (they look like kitty cat faces to me) in the porch pots, everything looks pretty happy. Hey vstar and Jella, I'm at 201 and coming up fast for the sprint!! I'll race ya to the high-protein snack box, and meet you at the competitive water slurping hose. But seriously, I'm excited but not worried. All things in the fullness of time. I was stuck at 203 for 3 1/2 weeks; but now that my workouts are more intense again, I bumped my calories from 1450 to 1750 (give or take an energy bar or 2 on workouts longer than 2 hours), the plateau seems to have become a downhill once again. (my annoying bike analogies...LOL) Glad to see all the G4G gang checking in. Hey, what's the deal with all the gall bladder problems on CCC? Does lack of fat in the diet cause these problems? I'm curious about that, does anyone know anything about it? Eating wise, still struggling to get that protein percentage where I want it; and to keep the sugar percentage under control. I don't eat artificial sweeteners (they give me headaches), so as the month goes gotta be careful with the carbs/sugars that go down the hatch. But I figger the energy is needed/burned during workouts, but may have contributed to my plateau as well. It's all such a science experiment. Boots -- have fun on your trip! Will you get to stroll on the Santa Monica pier? Has anyone gone on Ebay yet to bid on the Ferris Wheel up for sale? Hey, that's what the G4G room needs, a Ferris Wheel!! All right, enuff rambling from me, back to work! Adventurously, RG |

Morning, glories (LOL, I always wanted to say that...) Moving and groovin with project #3 for Thursday, dang I hope the mailbox is nice to me today and clients start sending in their payments! With the new house, going to Lowe's every other day, taxes, and pension payments, I have spent 10's of thousands of $$ in the last 6 weeks. I sat down last night to discover the answer to "why am I so poor I can't pay attention..." and it's all good, but gotta get those March invoices in so mamma can put the butter on the bread for April! SO is doing the best he can, but until his house sells we're sewing up the holes in our socks and eating lots of leftovers. This weekend we're going through the rest of his antiques and collectibles, getting ready for a yard sale and to put some things on Ebay next month. I have an ad in the paper to sell the extra stove we ended up with in the move, and I have some other furniture pieces I'll probably sell as well. Still and all, it's challenging and a bit overwhelming. Bike ride was stellar yesterday; 30 miles in about 2 hours, just what I was looking for, kept heart rate around 145-150 (except on the big hill). One major climb, up to Devou Park that overlooks downtown and the Ohio river from Kentucky. The only steep part is just near the top. Great weather, in the low 60s. Stopped to see the neighbors at my old house, and checked the mail there (the postman has been clueless about half the time since I moved; so I'm a bit paranoid...), and surveyed the perennials to see if there's anything else I want to dig up (maybe some clumps of purple spiderwort...) Fun food fact of the day: Fish Tacos! Hey this is soooo easy and delish. Heat a skillet, add some cooking spray, and cook 4 fillets about 2 minutes on each side. Add half an envelope of low-sodium taco seasoning, 1/4 c. water, and divide/stir the fish into chunks while the sauce cooks down. Microwave 4 white corn tortillas (no salt), --I get them in the Mexican section of the grocery -- for 25 seconds. Add fish to tortillas, sprinkle on some low fat cheese, salsa, fat free sour cream, shredded boston lettuce and halved cherry tomato, and CHOW DOWN!! You could also forgo the tortillas and do it salad style with more greens. (But these little tortillas are fantastic, 40 calories each and only 2 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber.) Two big tacos on your dinner plate, only 452 calories, mmmmm. Alrighty then, what yummy creations are you all making? I need some inspiration! Back to work, Industriously, - RG |

4SQ, keep that up, and you'll be walking a marathon before you know it (26.4 miles) -- maybe a goal or a fundraiser for a cause you love?! SO and I will be volunteering as bike safety riders again this year at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. There are oodles of folks who walk the whole distance; it takes about the same amount of training as preparing to run the distance. Blister help -- "Smartwool" socks have helped me (I am very blister-prone.) I agree with Boots, the Nu-Skin products are great, you cut to fit, and in about a week you're good as new. It could also be a sign your shoes are wearing out. Get a new pair fitted (I like New Balance), and make sure they're tied snugly. Get a new pair every 800 - 1000 miles. Seems a big expense but your foot health is worth it. Vstar -- Germany is beautiful, cosmopolitan, an amazing train system, bike trails, and environmentally conscious. Would you be in the south or the north? SO and I were in Munich for his 50th birthday this past fall and enjoyed it so much. He works for a European company, so ya never know! You could look into "reading" at a law program affiliated with an US university, and take classes that would ultimately transfer; justa thought. Gotta quit lurking and get back on the stick here, I made my to-do list and no wonder it's overwhelming--18 current clients and everyone needs something. Ok, I'll deal with 6 projects each of the next three daze, then do the administrative catch up on Sunday afternoon. That seems do-able! Bike ride at 6 pm this evening; heading north to see the flowering trees, then loop through a couple small towns, and back to town on the bike trail. Should be about 28 miles total (and home before dark...) Have a good day all, Busily, RG |

Yay my soul sistah Foxie Forksie checks in...so glad you're "healthy, wealthy and wise..." We miss ya, thanks for the visit, c'mon back when you're able. SO declared this weekend "work free," so we rode bikes, ate some meals out, took naps, and left the laundry for another day. Oh yes, and slept in, and snuggled with the pets and each other. DIL-to-be and her family came over, we played some songs on the piano, SO chimed in on the guitar, we all had a great round of "Puff the Magic dragon," "Yankee Doodle," and "Happy Birthday." 3- yo Nicholas (who calls himself Ye-Ye) enjoyed his first visit to Pawpay and Noonah's (me) new house. Kid's got a pretty entertaining language he's made up for himself. And was such a good boy at the restaurant. (I skipped over motherhood and went straight to nana-hood. It freaked me out at first, but two years in it's starting to get pretty fun.) Went out to the bike race (freezing) and cheered on teammates. Worth every shiver! So I guess we ended up walking 4 or 5 miles by the end of the event, I was helping the photographer and the finish line officials. I liked hearing about everyone's active weekends, and don't forget that EXTRA sunscreen (I had skin cancer in 2003, and am a fanatic about it.) I lather up before I put on any of my workout clothes. Also check out some of the new clothing that's out there (Nike, Columbia, some other brands) that have sun-screening properties in the fabric, as well as wick the sweat away, and have kewl pockets for snacks and cell phones. Be PROUD of those farmer tans, makes you into an athlete, living out loud. I love it! Vstar, intensely interested in your golfing stories but have never been able to understand what people love about it so much. Though I have tried, driving range was kinda fun, but I tend to agree with Mark Twain -- "Golf is a waste of a perfectly good walk." But lots of cool people I know love golfing, so please educate me. Do tell, do tell. KK, as your friend I must tell you to run, run like the wind from ANY gel sit. Your soft creamy center parts will never forgive you. Get a seat from a reputable bike shop from the company called Terry. They are women-specific. Make sure you are balanced on your sit bones -- those pointy ones you can feel when you bend over, reach back, and give your hiney a squeeze. These should be balanced on the squishy part of the seat. Take your bike to the shop and pay $40 for a "bike fit." They will adjust your steed so it is most comfy for the riding you are doing. Then ride more. The soreness will go away, I promise. Maybe build up to 40-50 miles a week, once you get a good seat and good bike fit. After 4 - 6 weeks, any soreness will be a dim memory. Also start practicing standing up in your pedals as you gear down to climb the hill. It will stretch out your bod and take the pressure off Virginia. Well, today I'm at 202. Even after the big food day on Saturday. Got some new britches, cargo pants, that I'm working into, a snug 14 since they're so low-slung, my goal is to wear them well by the end of April. Shout outs, Boots, green eyes, Jella (I think we call 'em "coolers" here BTW), 2BB, and the Walkin' Woman 4SQ, and Anniversary Waltzer Molly, and Pastry Chef HB (post your recipes!) Have a good week everyone --

Hi friends -- back from the long bike ride, along the Ohio River (both the Ohio side and the Kentucky side), we connect via a place called the Purple People Bridge. It is a converted railroad bridge that now is only open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Twas a challenging ride today, the winds were approaching 20 mph from the west, and the temperature in the high 40s, so the first part of the day was tuff, then the second part easy (tailwind), the turnaround a drag, and the road home a breeze (wind at our backs!). The weatherman said high of 50 today, but I seriously doubt it. This is my longest ride of 2008 so far; I'm not in terrible shape, but can feel my lack of disciplined training over the last six weeks of moving two households. So I doubt that I'll race tomorrow, the spirit is willing, but the bod ain't ready. (Women's road races in cycling are usually about 40 miles, and average speed about 21-22 mph. You have to be very fit to hang in with the group.) These long rides burn crazy amounts of calories though; at our average speed of 15-16 mph over 70 miles, I logged 4137 calories burned. That's why cycling is such a great low-impact weight loss tool, especially at a target heart rate of 65-75 percent of max. We stopped for a nice lunch along the river, I had turkey on half a croissant "through the garden," heated up with some light dill havarti; and some steamed pea pods and yellow peppers on the side. Mmm Mmm good. But after the warm restaurant it was a challenge to get back on the bikes again and pedal the 8 miles home; good thing we were in a group and got each other going. I think I'll go out to the race site tomorrow though, and cheer on my bike club teammates; that is always fun and appreciated too. Tonight we're celebrating SO's daughter's 27th birthday, we got she and her family a membership to the zoo; with their active 3-year old I think that will be a well-used present. I'm saving up some calories for a slice of birthday cake, yup, and I intend to sing quite loudly and savor every bite! I'm hovering, hovering, hovering at 203#, now with more training (swimming, jogging, and of course being on my bike) kicking in to get ready for the season's first triathlon race the end of May, I'm hoping that will shock ol' Betsey into weight loss mode. I'm pretty convinced my body likes to be at that 200ish weight, 201# 19 years ago is my lowest weight as an adult (though I remember being 186# in 6th grade.) But with love all things are possible, so I'm not going to think myself out of any possibilities! (As is my historical way when it comes to weight loss...) Hope everyone is having a swell weekend. Joyfully, RG |

All things bike -- my favorite thing to talk about! Checking in, friends, have been sewing curtains, installing shelving, and pulling weeds over the weekend, and work is ever-looming in the world of self-employment. Glad to see all of you, nonetheless. KK -- I don't know how many chain rings your bike has, I'm guessing three? (Big, medium, and little.) You want to mostly use the medium ring, and work on spinning your pedals 75 - 95 times a minute. (you can test this by looking at the second hand of the clock for 10 seconds, and counting how many times your knee comes up.) Take the number you get times 6; that is your spin number, or "cadence." As you go up a hill, (ALL THE WHILE KEEPING A CONSISTENT PEDAL STROKE) use your right hand to shift your gears down, or "easier", until your legs are spinning at that magic number again. This will make your use of energy most efficient, and keep your body in the fat-burning zone. If it is a REALLY steep hill, use your left hand to shift down into your Little chain ring. If you stop pedaling, sometimes it makes your chain fall off. Don't panic, get off your bike, put the chain back around the little or medium ring, then lift your back wheel up a bit while you spin the pedals with your other hand. The chain should go right back on. (Can be messy though, I recommend you carry some wet wipes in your pack with your cell phone, a few bucks, and a small first aid kit. I will save the "how to change a bike tire post" for later this spring. LOL). When you crest the hill, use your right hand to shift up, or "harder" a couple of clicks, and then use your left hand to shift from your little ring to your medium ring if that's where you ended up. I would not use your big chain ring until you are completely bored with playing around with the little and medium ones. Most bikes will have anywhere from 12 to 18 gears, just in those two rings, so for general introductory riding, you'll be fine for a while. The big ring is mainly used for speedy descents, and going really fast on the flats in a group of riders, or peleton. (like in the Tour d' France.) Hope this helps! We are doing a 70-mile ride along the Ohio River this weekend, and I'll be doing my first bike race of the year this coming Sunday. Have a good day everyone! - RG |

Ha, Jella's been taking emoticon lessons from 2BB, look at 'er go! Quick hello at lunchtime today; a busy morning with clients and phone calls. (vstar, do ya know what your getting yourself into?? hahaha...) I'm working on avoiding checking this month's invoices from the bookkeeper for accuracy, so after a G4G fix I'll think I'll take Murphy for her walk since it's sunny in Ohio for once. Almost ready with my March stats, hope to post later this evening after a bike ride with my cycle club buddies. Delish lunch today -- spinach salad with sliced turkey, grated carrots, sweet onion, cranberries, and a touch of lower fat blue cheese, and a tablespoon of yogurt dressing. Tons of food for only about 400 calories. Snacks today will be protein -- yogurt, lean meat, and a few toasted walnuts. Chicken breast and a piled of lemon-dill broccoli for dinner, perhaps half a sweet potato, and probably a pink grapefruit for snack tonight, and an energy bar during the bike ride. I have been drinking Propel as an energy drink, seems to do the trick. Back into power yoga with a vengeance. Last night our class was very pilates-like, and I swear my waist is an inch smaller today. Funny the tricks our minds play! Gotta get it going; 5 months til the wedding, got that red dress looking at me expectantly from the closet! Where do you all want to be in 5 months? Let's hear it??! Curiously, RG |

Hi friends -- I'm having a heck of a time posting each day, but have been working to log the calories and get the month buttoned up, such as it was. It's been a busy few days, I've taken on another four divorce clients; my intention was to do less of the family law work, but we haven't sold SO's house and frankly, we need the $$. Two of them should be easy, the other two contested, I will need all my persuasive and mediation skills. I taught an "Introduction to Road Cycling" class to a group of 15 over the weekend, mostly teens ages 14 - 20. They were very enthusiastic and are beginning preparations to ride 540 miles from Cincinnati to Niagra Falls, on Adventure Cycling's Underground Railroad Freedom Trail. We teach them a concept called vehicular cycling, or in other words how to ride a bike as a vehicle on the road for the maximizing of fun, predictability, visibility and safety. We got most everybody up the first big hill, a couple of the girls weren't familiar with how to shift their gears so we had a few walkers about half-way up. The evaluations came back very positive, we are planning to meet one more time to do a bike maintenance refresher so everybody can change a tire, adjust their chain, shifters, and brakes, and know what to do if "stuff" happens out on the road during their tour. SO and I went on a "one day" vacation to the wine festival downtown, and stayed at the Hyatt, very chichi and neat to get away from all the work still to be done in the new house. Then Sunday morning we volunteered at the water station for the Heart Mini-Marathon, passing out water to 5000 runners, then joined the walkers for the 10K event. Whew we were beat when we got home around 1 pm. An hour's nap was just the ticket. Then the rest of the day installing the kitty door to the basement, doing laundry, finishing instructor's paperwork for the Cycle Club, and then organizing my March billing paperwork for the bookkeeper. I'm loving all the energy and support G4Gers, a pleasure to read, do a little lurking, and experience with you all! Too bad we don't all live closer, we could freecycle outfits. Got a range of 12-14-16 and M-Ls around here! Let me recommend Target for those of you with the "generous" hips; Isaac Mizrahi's slacks are cut very well in that area, and nothing is more than $25, less if you stalk the sales rack. For work outfits, more of "investment" type clothing, I go to the Jones of New York outlet. Course, I'm very tall so I like the brands that are long in the legs and torso. I got nothin for you petite gals, sorry, except a scissors and a sewing machine. LOL! HB, I like your work to slowly and steadily get your game plan together, and try again if you fall off the wagon. Keep at it, it will all come together! I am pretty steady doing my 11-minutes a mile 10Ks, now, in April I'm going to work on shaving off another 30 seconds off my average. And of course, back on the bike. Will all this rain it's been challenging, but teaching from the back of the bike all weekend was alot of fun. I must plan for some long 60-100 mile rides on the weekends though if I'm to be ready for my first triathlon in May. KK -- go on that cycle ride! You won't regret it. Hey, my SO is about 180, I'm hovering at 203, works out fine. (Also I'm 2 inches taller than him), but it's all good. Put out your vibe that you're ready for that relationship, it will come right to you. Damn the torpedoes! Vstar, 2BB, MM, mabear, greeneyes, Jella (hugs for the pup), safina, 4SQ, Bootsie hang in hang on spring has sprung and we're working on getting healthier everyday. NO REGRETS folks; we've had enough of that noise. (trundles off to work, look up weight stats, drag out the evil tape measure, and get going on being GREAT in April '08!) Industriously, RG |

Hello hippity hoppity friends! Sounds like everyone survived Easter -- it's one of those "food" holidaze that sneaks up on ya, especially this year being so darn early, and us northerners wanting a dose of spring so badly. Took a 2-day hiatus from the computer over the weekend; had been spending marathon hours in my office and there was just too much work to do in the new house. SO felt under the weather with a flu bug, and I had to get the cleaning done at my old place and hand over the keys. So I got up early yesterday and walked Murphy, our Aerdaile (since Mike brought her to the new house, I've been walking or jogging with her twice a day. It's fun to have a doggie companion.) I headed over to the old house to finish things up, intending only to go for 2 hours, well it turned into all day. Packed the last boxes from the basement, took trash and a couple chairs to the curb, dragged a box spring for the goodwill pickup, then washed the basement floor, scrubbed the tops of the kitchen cabinets (yucky, I might add), and wet-swiffered the hard wood floors once more for luck. Then on to the outside -- bagging up the leaves, waking up the daffodils and other perrennials (I swear I saw them shudder -- "give us back our blankies!"). Then proceeded to dig up 3 lilac bushes I wanted to take with me to the new house. What a job! I did the hillbilly thing, and put them in the wheelbarrow to trundle down the street 2 blocks to the new house. Dug the new holes, then finished the planting and figured out how to turn on the new hose for a good watering. I hope they survive, its still cold enough here and they haven't set flower buds so keep your fingers crossed! We did manage to have a nice Easter meal, the 2 of us, roasted chicken, scalloped potatoes I made with skim milk, baby peas and zucchini. I did get a wild hair and made a lemon meringue tart for dessert; but I've been burning 1500-2000 calories daily, in addition to my "normal" RMR, so soon as the moving is over the "salad days" of treats will be too, fear not. I'm hovering between 202-203, my hope for a sub-200 scale reading was for nought. Ah well, once I'm back on a better schedule in April, who knows where things will end up! I did wear a pair of SO's "big/baggy" old jeans with a 34 waist (they were snug on me) so at least that's something. I loved vstar's story of "what the heck, try it on," and "yippee, it fits," that's the greatest feeling. Haven't been able to get back to my counting/analysis mode, I think April is more realistic to re-group since we still have over half of SO's things to move in the next couple weeks. (The man has over 400 beer steins, for heaven's sake.) Missing everyone, and enjoying hearing of MM's bike rides, HB's running (and Safina too), Jella on the Beach (is that a tropical drink treat??), NASCAR-bound 4sQ and of course ROSY (you know who you 2 bee bee...). Shout outs to Boots, KK, and all new friends too. Discussion topic -- Set Point -- anyone know much about it? The weight at which the body tends to want to stay -- thought it might be interesting to research (versus "plateaus" and such.) TTFN, happy spring all. Sunnily, RG |

Hey friends, can the prodigal c'mon back? How sad, Forksie has gone on internet walkabout? Here's hoping her path diverges to the road less traveled by, the one where we learn the most. But I see 2BB, and 4SQ, and Miz Molly, and Bootsie, and vstar, and also safina, and KK and GreenEyes through my magic mirror, that's wonderful and a comfort to see our group is still the G4G gang. (Sorry if I missed anyone, and glad ta meetcha if I haven't introduced myself yet...) I love the G4G thread and hope we can keep it going, growing, loving, changing for when our girl forksie comes back. I am in my new office (which is also a room in my new home); SO is teaching karate and will be home soon so we can have supper. We are enjoying the cohabitating, though it's still quite new and enormous for us. (Wedding will be the end of August, we didn't really plan to live together yet here we are...) My house is sold, and cleaned out, still need to go over and dig up some of my perrenials and bring them over to the new yard. We're still working our young American butts off combining our households, helping the dog and kitties to get along, going through old stuff to save, throw, or donate. I'm a freecycler now, a good program that keeps stuff from the landfill, and helps those who need it. Dropping off a loveseat and ottoman to a nice gal east of here on Thursday night. I have no idea how much I weigh. My clothes fit like I've lost 5-6 pounds I'd say. Wouldn't that be something to get below 200 when I wasn't paying attention. The scale being what it is though, my bet is for 201. (LOL) My dedication and analysis and daily reporting have gone all to heck. I spend about 2 hours everyday packing, unpacking, moving and going up and down stairs with boxes of stuff. I have been tracking the calories; usually between 1550 and 2000 for the last two weeks or so. I have been jogging occasionally with Murphy our 12-yo aerdaile, she seems to enjoy it and I do too. I haven't ridden my bike on a significant ride in a coon's age, though rode all 3 of my bikes (one at a time, that is), from my old house to my new house (all of 2 blocks...). I can't wait until it's warm enough to do my grocery shopping via my 3-speed with its spiffy basket in the front. Well I've rambled enough. Once I find my USB cable for my camera I'll post some photos of us moving in the snowstorm 2 weeks ago. EPIC! Health and well-being to all, I'll be back to my daily posts soon, I hope. Organizationally, RG |

((((tiptoes in...peeks around...jumps up and down and waves wildly!!!!!))) wearehereweareherewearehere! (RG, and G4G gang hears a who??!) Phone/internet has been down since Saturday night...new water heater went out and needed replacement...electrician is, shall we say, "not up on the latest technologies", (sputter, ratchafrasingrackamatchinsoinso...) 6 burly workmen just left our new house and I'm gingerly trying things out. Have been writing down food eaten for all these days, haven't a clue where I'm at, feeling out of control but trying to take deep breaths. Furniture comes on Saturday. I've been living on veggie pizza, and sushi 'cause it's easy to pick up from the grocery. Sodium horrible I'm sure, honestly don't remember very well what I ate yesterday. Miss you guys, getting my exercise though and have managed one bike ride, and two 4-mile jogs. And all this box packing and lifting, what's that worth Forksie?? Can't wait to be back on track in '08. Hi friends -- hey, good news, thanks for your thoughts and support. WE HAVE OUR NEW HOUSE!! I have no calorie report today. I literally had so much on my (metaphorical) plate and mind I forgot to weigh in. I'll update over the weekend. So tomorrow go running 4 miles in the morning, then lots of packing and hauling and cleaning for the rest of the day. Oh and I'll make some curtains for downstairs, and probably go to Lowe's 3 times. Talk soon! Love ya, RG |

Hi KK (we like the 2-letter nicknames around here!) And hey HB, we've missed you. Thanks for the good feet running info. I have the high arch like Forksie, too, but have resisted getting inserts for running, can set your hips off balance, etc. So just try to build up my running little by little and hope my feet hold up OK. KK, I'm with you, I INHALED my dinner and now am feeling snacky but with no calories left, ah well. I have been so crazy busy that slowing down to eat and enjoy meals has not been part of the program. Once SO and I get moved, I'm looking forward to much better planning and leisurely eating time. Our closing on the new house is tomorrow at 1:30, a new path in our lives. Yippee, Forksie's got a brand new bag (I mean shoe?!). Here's a toast to many healthy miles in those babies. (And don't forget you'll need to replace them in 800-1000 miles.) 2BB, you're so ultimately generous with your information and your heart, we're proud to know ya! Vstar, get some sage and burn it around that scale. It's got bad juju that needs to be cleared out! Report for 2/28/08 Calories = 1692 Burned = 2440 Deficit = 748 Exercise -- 40 minutes jog/ with 1 min walking every 6 minutes. Fun food fact -- Had turkey and salad for lunch at "City Barbeque." Roasted white meat turkey, quite delicious. Oh, and some red-skin potatoes. A Kansas City style smoky BBQ casual restaurant. Don't forget your protein, kauf -- maybe an egg white omelet with spinach this evening? I'm hanging in friends, working like a chicken since next week won't get much work done at all, I think, with packing, moving etc. I did get a walk in today, too Forksie, it's enjoyable in the cold, but I could use some sunshine, we haven't had much this month in Ohio! Wanted to start swimming this week at least twice, but looks like it will only be once. I'll work on it more next week. I'm keeping my eyes on Sunday -- maybe in the 40s and can do a bike ride outside. (crosses fingers and toes.) Thanks vstar for the BMR research; it's consistent with what I've been finding from different sites. I've been averaging a pound a week loss or so; but when kick in more long bike rides and triathlon training will have to beef up my calories some (maybe 300 a day or so.) Report for 2/26/08 Calories = 1671 Burned = 2440 Deficit = 769 Exercise = 45 minutes of brisk walking with 2 pound hand weights (they really help tone my arms, neck and chest I find.) Fun food fact -- mmm, pink grapefruit. Peel and eat leisurely for a lunchtime dessert treat. Neighbors sent them from Florida, so yummy. Stats: Fat - 21.9% (42 grams)Protein - 15.1% (65 grams) Carbohydrates - 63.0% (271 grams) Alcohol - 0.0% Other - 0.0% Daily Sodium Intake - 1,742 mg Daily Cholesterol Intake - 230 mg Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 11 grams Daily Fiber Intake - 40 grams Howdy to Boots, Blondee, 2BB and wahoo for 4sq's loss, and good thoughts and no "white coat syndrome" for our Miz Molly at her doctor visit this week. So we still never found Mel? Hope she blows in with the winds of March. Springingly, - RG |

Hey folks, ten til ten, where did the day go? On the phone and computer all day, getting insurance finalized, finding a piano mover, following up on a case for a client with lots of technical research, grabbed a salad for dinner with chicken and baby tomato, now trying to figure out what needs done tomorrow. I'm still loving that Bolthouse Farms yogurt dressing, so delicious and creamy but all natural ingredients. (waves at all the folks checkin in from all over, that's so great!) Thanks Forks for all the latest and greatest news updates. Hey that kraut is worth waiting for if you make it, I have set it up in ball jars and eaten it through the winter before. (neighbors always give me lots of cabbages from their garden.) We're on for our closing this Friday, 1:30 pm. Sell my house, then buy the new one. I need to be moved by 3/15. Many friends have offered to help us, how wonderful and kind. Report for 2/25/08 Calories= 1757 Burned = 2440 Deficit = 683 Exercise -- Day off today, though did some cleaning, pet care, and some packing. Fun food fact -- baked up some red skin potatoes to keep in the fridge with vegetarian chili and to chop up with salad. Baked some tilapia filets and chicken breasts, too. Stocked up on light english muffins, natural peanut butter, and frozen veggies, too. Trying to eat easy and basic since will be living in two places for a couple of weeks. So my food facts may not be too fun for a while but I'll give it a try, LOL. Stats: Fat - 16.9% (35 grams) Have a good evening friends, keep on thinking SPRING!! Wearily, - RG

Hey friends, nervous nelly aka RG here. Have been running like a chicken this whole weekend and now searching for some calm in a cuppa tea. Missing y'all, if I'm posting, I'm calm, things are good. If I'm not, things are crazy, and I'm trying to carve out time. So it goes... First thing, here's a salt-free kraut recipe I have made many times: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Real-Food/1985 -09-01/Easy-Salt-Free-Sauerkraut.aspx I love the stuff, for side dish, sandwich, in a casserole, you name it. I layer it with shredded turkey, grilled onions, low cal dressing, and rye bread cubes, to make a rueben-type main dish that's baked in the over for 40 minutes. Well, we're planning for our closing this coming Friday. Still some title release issues to address, an agreement to sign for the seller to pour our driveway prior to May 1st, the final walk-through on Thursday, all the final paperwork to review...if all goes well we're going to crack a bottle of wine and spend the night in sleeping bags there by the fireplace next weekend. I feel a little misty thinking my sweet little house will soon be sold. It has been such a sanctuary for me, I do love new beginnings but must celebrate the 13 years I have spent here. SO and I are both feeling the pressure from all the things to think about, not just the mortgage, but the significance and chaos in this huge change we're embarking upon. Neither one of us likes it much when life is in a bit of an uproar, so we're leaning on each other and trying to make the best of it. Last night we did get out to a celebration party for our friend who's now cancer-free, did some dancing for an hour or so, always fun for "boogie queen" RG (I like old-school, Cameo, Prince, Funkadelic, Lady Marmelade, what a blast.) I always start the dancing 'cause I'm not much of a drinker so don't need to be altered to get it going. So it's usually me and the little kids at first, fun. SO joins in more and more these daze though, everyone commented how much he's opened up since we're been together. That makes ya feel good! I sorta counted yesterday, I know I was under maintenance but probably not much more than that. At the baby shower we attended in the afternoon, I hovered near the veggie tray and cleaned up the red grapes. Half a piece of cake did go down the hatch though. We had eaten a healthy lunch before the party so as not to gorge on too many peanuts and cream cheese dip. Also, fortunately for me, there was lots of ham dip, meatballs, and pepperoni slices, all of which I never eat. Course that makes it easier! The evening party included a few chicken wings, another pile of veggies, and some chips and salsa. Oh and probably 10 green olives, my fave. Today was a better food day, lots of veggies and chicken, craving protein like crazy. SO talked me into getting a Blackberry when we went to Verizon to combine our cell phone plans. Figuring out how to get it transferred and set up has taken up this whole evening. I like things simple, hope I don't regret getting this thing. Still have to sync it up with my computer, will try to get that done before I hit the hay. We spent the afternoon going over our joint finances once again, it's going to be tight until we get his house sold. It's kind of a surprise we'll be living together before we're married in August, but a good thing though. We can get the moving and organizing out of the way before summer, and focus on the wedding at the end, a good thing methinks?!! Report for 2/24/08 Calories = 1705 Burned = 2560 Deficit = 855 Exercise = 3 mile walk in the cold and snow. C'MON ALREADY SPRING! Fun Food Fact -- tried a new salad dressing, Bolthouse Farm Yogurt Caesar, very yummy only 40 calories a tablespoon. Had over a roast chicken and romaine salad, with a few cranberries thrown on top, and a baked sweet potato on the side. State: Fat - 34.9% (67 grams)Protein - 27.6% (119 grams) Carbohydrates - 37.5% (162 grams) Alcohol - 0.0% Other - 0.0% Daily Sodium Intake - 1,708 mg Daily Cholesterol Intake - 874 mg Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 21 grams Daily Fiber Intake - 33 grams Thanks Forks for sharing as usual, and 2BB for keeping our smiles and energy up. You guys rock. MM -- did you see the special on peregrine falcons on NATURE tonight, public TV special, it was really fantastic. I love to watch and study raptors, a great part of many fascinating ecosystems. We have peregrines that live on the top of skyscrapers here in Cincinnati. OK, I've rambled enough. Have a wonderful evening friends. Naturally, - RG |
