You could try changing up your exercise too-try checking out classes at your local community centre or church: karate, yoga, pilates, dance or whatever catches your eye. If you have a bicycle, you could take it out for a spin one day instead of the regular cardio set. Anything that gets your body moving in a different way from your regular cardio might be enough to surprise your muscles into a little extra fat burning. |

| Weight Loss | Question to anyone with loose skin after weight loss, like myself! (or anyone who knows someone with some) | Jun 21 2009 14:31 (UTC) |

By the time a guy is naked in a room with you, he's pretty well decided he wants to be there, you know? I'm sure that some loose skin here and there won't change his mind. That being said, there are a number of creams on the market that are supposed to help with the appearance of loose skin. I myself have some extra around the tummy where my last baby stretched the skin beyond it's elasticity. I find that although most of the creams do in fact help with the appearance of my skin, they don't actually firm it up. I just opt out of buying bikinis, and don't wear really low rise jeans. |

| Weight Loss | Agree or disagree: Overeating healthy food DOES NOT lead to weight gain. | Jun 21 2009 14:24 (UTC) |
11 |
Overeating anything, even veggies and healthier fare, will cause weight gain if it's a sustained habit. The thing is, that it's really hard to do it-veggies are bulky in the stomach and make you feel very full for very few calories. You'd have to eat a gut-splitting amount of vegetables to reach the calorie levels that would make you gain. You would probably also turn orange or something, which has apparently happened to people who ate too many carrots. |

| Weight Loss | Got called "fat"... feeling insecure | Jun 21 2009 14:21 (UTC) |
17 |
Ever notice that 'fat' is the one thing you can call a woman-any woman-that will make her go into a spiral of self-doubt and insecurity. Doesn't matter what her actual weight is, she will still pick apart her appearance obsessively and agonize over the insult. Which is exactly why she called you fat. And you aren't. Not even a little bit. |

Thrift stores are a goldmine of gently used clothing that will get you through to the next size without a huge dent in the budget. I've been shopping at Valu Village for years, and have made some fantastic finds. |

If you're that active, it's possible you aren't consuming enough calories. If your body feels it's not getting enough nutrients, it will think there's a famine, and it's time to preserve fat stores. Try getting in closer to that 1600 or 1700 calories daily and see if that helps. 1400 may just not be enough. |

Lemon water is delicious! I won't even drink my water any other way now. My bloating is caused by too much dairy and wheat, so I just keep an eye on my intake.

| Weight Loss | Can you eat chocolate and still lose weight? | Jun 17 2009 01:51 (UTC) |
10 |
Like I always say: The high calorie foods aren't going to go away just because we want to lose weight. If we don't learn how to incorporate a moderate amount of 'treats' into the ol' eating plan, the result is frustration and possible bingeing. We all need to remember that healthy eating has to be a life plan, not a 'only until I lose weight and make my life perfect' plan. Have your chocolate, and enjoy it without guilt. You deserve it for taking such good care of yourself. |

| Weight Loss | Best time to Weigh Yourself | Jun 16 2009 00:09 (UTC) |

It doesn't really matter what time you weigh, so long as you're consistent about weighing at that time. The only time I really wouldn't suggest is right after Thanksgiving dinner. |

Perhaps to avoid another blammo caloriefest in the future, you should be kind to yourself. Let's face it. Those high calorie wonders aren't going to go away just because we've decided not to eat them every day any more. Make a place for small amounts of your favourite treats in your daily meal plans-a treat day, or what have you. We all need to learn how to accept and incorporate all loved foods into our diets. I can't imagine never having a cheeseburger again, and don't see why I should have to. Eating healthy isn't something to do for a while until we reach some magic number on a scale that will make all our problems disappear. It's just a part of finding the balance in our lives that make NOW the best we can. Chin up! Tomorrow's another day. |

Shake it off. Tomorrow's another day. Many people forget that fast food doesn't disappear just because we decide to go on a diet. You, like the rest of us, need to find a way to fit the occasional blammo calorie foods into our lifestyle. |

It sounds really trite, but it wasn't until I focussed on achiecing good health that I had any success. That being said, I'm back to CC after gaining back 18 pounds. My focus was all wrong-I got caught up in the calories and pounds. Took me a long time to get my head back in the right place. Now my focus is on the health aspects of diet and exercise. I'm looking at the weight loss as more of a side effect. Again, this has all been said before. Focus on quality of life, and don't let counting get you down. Good health, regardless of weight, is what's truly attractive. Simply put, what good is it to lose those 10 pounds if you're unhappy and regimented? |

I'm assuming you mean hunger at a time that is not appropriate for eating(church, at a funeral, just stood up from the table, 2am, during surgery)? In those cases, I have a drink of water or tea-sometimes you're not hungry, just thirsty-or I chew gum. Distraction works too-go for a walk, clean a closet, or whatever your distraction of choice is. I know some people carry toothpaste and a travel toothbrush with them and just brush their teeth. NOTHING tastes good with toothpaste. |

| Weight Loss | 8 pounds in 4 days? | Jun 13 2009 21:56 (UTC) |
4 |
I agree. Unless you've been eating slabs of lard, there is no way you could have gained that much weight in only 4 days. It's very likely the combination of scale variation, salt intake and quite possibly some bloating from eating unfamiliar food. The other possibility is that you could be constipated. You didn't mention if you've been ... um ...regular. Like everyone else, I'm sure you'll find that once you're home and back in your own routine, those pounds will disappear quite quickly. |

There is a Hershey's Reserve 85% Extra Dark Chocolate-should be available at Wal-Mart. I'm not fond of it myself, but I have the palate of an eight year old and like my chocolate with caramel, nuts, nougat and whatever else you can cram into it. lol |

I think my body is pretty spiffy-my arms are strong enough to carry a sleepy kid up to bed, but gentle enough to give hugs that make everything better. My legs can skip and ride bikes, and when I sit they make the 'bestest lap for snuggles'(says my six year old). My lips can kiss away booboos, and my voice is tough enough to scare away the boogey man. Yep, I have a great body. |

Definitely nuts. Almonds, pistachios, peanuts-anything you can put in a baggy for him to eat by the handfull to snack. Trail mix is good-has dried fruit too. High in fat, but mostly the good kind of fat. |

I was a binge eater/bulimic. Mentally, I guess I still am, but I can control myself now. What made me get help to take my life back is the Easter my daughter was 3, and I ate ALL her Easter candy. Then purged. Then I sat in the bathroom crying because I had just stolen my child's candy. Then SHE started crying because Mommy was sitting on the floor crying and she didn't know why. Then my son started to cry, because he was a baby, and babies cry....whenever. I called the doctor that day. And then went to Wal-Mart and bought her Easter treats that weren't candy. My daughter is 8 now, and I am so thankful she doesn't remember any of it. |

| Fitness | Do you judge people exercising? | Feb 08 2008 03:27 (UTC) |

I'm usually so caught up in my own workout that I don't really notice the people around me. There is one woman, however, that I've noticed. She is morbidly obese. I've spoken to the manager about her, admiring her dedication one day. Apparently she originally wanted to try to lose some weight so she could have the gastric bypass surgery. She found that she was doing so well on her own with diet and exercise, that she's decided not to have the surgery after all. Every time I see her slugging it out on that treadmill, I feel inspired to be the best me I can be. That girl seriously kicks butt. And that's what I think when I see an overweight person exercising.

| Weight Loss | An unusual question.. | Feb 08 2008 03:21 (UTC) |

Health should always be the ultimate goal, rather than a quick loss on the scale. I wouldn't get worked up about counting if it's really not your thing, maybe just give yourself a general idea of what you're putting in your mouth. Really, the main thing is to cut out as much processed foods and refined sugars as you can from your diet. Most of the weight I've lost just dropped off when I cut out the unnecessary sugar. |
