Oh god you know what is a frightening film? It's called 'Elephant' and no, its not a horror movie, its this arthouse dramatic film about the columbine high school shooting, like a reenactment and oh god it is terrifying. It's so so realistic, thats what makes it so disturbing. And it start off really slow so you get a bit of a shock when the shooting starts. I definately reccomend it...but then again I don't, if you know what I mean |

I live right in the middle of the bushfire zone in Victoria, Australia. So these fires have hit me pretty hard...helicopters are constantly flying over my house, smoke has filled the air for well over a week, and everywhere I drive I have to go through kilometres of blackened grassland. The closest major fire was only 500m from my house and spot fires are a constant threat. Current death toll 189...R.I.P. I've had to think hard about what I would save, and like all of you, my dog is first! I'm not a bit materialistic person, I'd grab very very little. Maybe a jumper. My computer and external hard drive. |

Massive diet may have been a bit of an exaggeration! I just meant I'm going to continue on with my healthy eating/heavy exercising lifestyle, but really strictly. I've followed all your advice, thanks! Any responses to the initial question, anyone? |

1. I stand out in a crowd 2. I look like barbie with curly hair 3. I know I'm meant to do something extraordinary with my life 4. I have enough optimism to KNOW the above 5. People are intimidated of me (in a good way) Wow that was harder than I though. Clearly I overestimate my arrogance! |

Oh god I'm having motivation difficulties too. I'm trying to start over and am finding it very hard to start! Especially during the holidays! I'm not one to speak, because I can't even follow my own advice haha...but weigh yourself everytime you want to eat something bad. Generally, that works for me cause then I think I'm such a pig! Or find really hot photos of people you want to look like eg. NICOLE SCHERZINGER and just...get motivated through them! And my numnber one piece of advice...NEVER think 'oh I'll just have one.' For example, if someone opens a bag of lollies and you think 'just one' how often do we end up demolishing the entire bag? This, generally, is my downfall. Just steer clear of bad food altogether. A taste of something always leaves you wanting more. I hope you can get back on track, maybe if you do it will motivate me in turn! |

| Motivation | Has anybody gained a lot of weight back this year? | Dec 15 2008 13:52 (UTC) |

Hey, I can understand how heartbreaking weight gain must be. In regards to the difficulty with the gym, why go to a gym at all? You could walk/run around the block, and plus this reduces the tedious nature of gymwork with a bit of scenery! I understand this can be embarassing, and if you feel this then why not buy gym equipment for your home? This is expensive yes...so hire equipment! There are always alternatives to working out at a gym...many of them! Remember, 2009 is about to begin and you can start fresh! People say new years resolutions never stick...but mine did! As of the first of January 2008, I'm down about 45 pounds. Start 2009 with a new attitude, and I bet that this time next year you'll be posting about you're weight loss :) GOOD LUCK! |

The Dark Knight, anyone??? And just because its a new, MULTI million dollar massive blockbuster doesn't overshadow its credibility. MAJOR brilliance in that film!! Also, The Godfather, LOTR, Candy (Australian indie film with the late Heath Ledger), Sin City, Gangs of New York, Schindler's List...anything that makes me cry |

I can understand how you feel. I'm 5'10 and was stuck at 158 since about June/July and only a month ago got down to about 151, and have been continuously losing since then. How did I do it? I honestly have no idea. It just happened. I tried zig zagging and upping my calories as well, but both seemed to keep me stuck at 157!! I got pretty emotional about it, not so much because of the way I looked, but because I was going to so much effort for so little consequence. Patience, I believe, is the key. Like, myself, you seem to have hit a major plateau and there are sooooooooo many antedotes to a plateau and its different for everyone. For me, I just kept to my diet, kept exercising and eventually the weight slipped off. No matter what, don't lose hope. If you stop exercising and eating badly again you will gain weight. And remember you're not alone! I know how you feel and its extremely tough physically and mentally. Just keep going, you're doing an amazing job. |

I'd be happy to help! 1. I'm a fifteen year old female, nearly sixteen, and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I'm currently studying at a private school in year eleven, so not long to go until I'm finished! 2. I've been overweight for about four years, pretty much because me and my friends spent so much time and money at the canteen haha. Teenage girls and their obsession with food! I'd been unhappy with my weight for a while, but on January the 1st 2008 I decided I was sick of being the overweight girl...not exactly fat, but I didn't want people to judge me because I was bigger than the other girls. I'd tried to lose weight before by exercising (Which I HATED) and eating healthily...but I'd always fail. So I started to count calories, and it just worked for me! I'm really glad I managed to lose about 45 pounds and bring my BMI down to 21.8 while I was a teenager, because now I've picked up lifestlye habits that I'm sure will carry me through to adulthood. |

| Weight Loss | Did I really just gain 5 pounds in two days? | Nov 24 2008 07:37 (UTC) |

It would definately be water weight don't let it get you down! Remember, 3,500 calories equals one pound. So in order to gain 5 pounds you would have to have eaten 17,500 calories OVER maintenance, which is near impossible. |

And it's not like im super goodlooking or anything its just cause im a girl and its so awkward! And they all lift about 30943069kg and then I lift these 5kg dungbells and BATTLE through it! Its embarassing, but funny. Waaaay too much testosterone in the weights room.. |

I know exactly how you all feel! Today I ate an incredible amount of food...normally if I go over 1400 I feel like its been a bad day....and today I think I went up to 3500!! How did I eat so much? Wow. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day. The good thing about eating a lot is it gives you a new incentive to eat well. |

| Weight Loss | 6 days on, 1 day off? | Aug 04 2008 16:17 (UTC) |

I'm starting this diet just now, cause I hit a plateau so I'm try to do this. Apparently it helps your metabolism. I'm incorporating two sort of normal days in my diet now...but I still monitor what I eat closely! Even though I may be eating 2000 cals a day...I still write down everything I eat and make sure its 2, not 3 thousand im consuming! The main aim with this diet is to have a regulated weekly calorie intake. Measure how many calories you consume per week instead of per day. Diet strictly for five days, then eat normally for two days....or diet strictly for three days, three medium days and a normal day...however you want. Hope this helps |

| Weight Loss | Eating late | Aug 04 2008 15:38 (UTC) |

Contrary to what a lot of people have said in this thread, YES, it is bad for your diet to eat a lot late at night!! This is not speculation, its scientific fact. A recent scientific study (I read about it a couple of weeks ago in the newspaper) has proven that you will lose a lot more weight if you eat a large breakfast, medium lunch, and small dinner...and this should all be eaten several hours before you go to bed. This is because all the calories you consume at dinner will not be burned off. What do the majority of us do after dinner? Watch TV? Read a book? We do not burn off the energy/kilojoules/calories we are consuming in the large dinner. And when we don't BURN energy it gets stored as FAT!! Its best to eat the most during the day when you actually need the food for energy. Before you eat a meal ask yourself, 'what will I be doing between now and my next meal?' If the answer is 'sleep', don't eat a lot. If you get hungry in the few hours before you go to bed, which I do as well, eat a water based fruit like an apple. This way you're not consuming a lot of actual energy or food because a lot of it is water, but you're deceiving your body into believing you actually ARE, because the food is bulky. I hope this helps!!
