Morning Ladies! Welcome new posters!

Danielle- How are the shins any news from the Dr?

Okie- Mexico how exciting where are you going?

Carol- Hang in there I bet once the stress of moving is gone your weight will settle back down.

I have had a horrible horrible horrible week of dieting- Great with exercise BAD with diet. Note to self you do not need to eat pizza when it is free at school. I am up two pounds and it is my TOTM so I really just want to eat an entire bowl of chocolate. I have plans for a 12mile run/hike tomorrow so at least that will keep me in line tonight. Next week I will do better!

Morning Ladies,

I too am jealous of kbella's weekend-chocolate festival yes please!

caroline- good luck with the move! Unpacking and setting up a new house involves so much moving around it will be good to have a few extra cals for energy.

danielle- what time do you have to get to qualify? You have been really improving with your speed it seems so I bet you can do it!

Okie - I will join you in the week of getting back on track. I am sure you will be back down Friday.

I have been kinda lax about calories since I went to homecoming last week. But I have kept up with my workouts 6 days a week so I am hoping the damage won't be too great when I get back on the scale.

Also this week I am quitting drinking diet soda. I never drank a lot just 12 oz in the am for my caffeine hit but I have decided I should not drink soda every day its just not good. So I have been getting up early since last Friday and making coffee before I leave. So far it has worked out well in that I seem to get enough caffeine not to get a headache and since it is getting colder the warmth is nice for my commute. Luckily I don't take sugar and just like a little cream or milk so I don't think it will up my calories too much.

I really want to lose a few pounds before I have to go home and see my family at Thanksgiving. Our whole family is really fit and weight conscious so my weight inevitably comes up and I don't want to feel like the fatty while I'm enjoying all the goodies.

Have a great rest of the week!

If you are really nervous about the exposed stomach you could wear a flesh colored leotard under the costume so that every thing would be smooth and covered (and a little tucked in thanks to the spandex :))and then you would just show off your shape and get to wear the costume you have picked out.

Happy Friday ladies! No loss to report hanging out around 165. Heading home this weekend for my college homecoming and meeting up with a bunch of friends I haven't seen in awhile. Hoping to not do too much damage with all the food and alcohol.

Kbella congrats on getting a job!

ok ladies I officially don't get my body. This week I decided to take a break and eat around what my maintenance calories are supposed to be 1800-1900. I was a little afraid because I have been maintaining quite efficiently at 1400-1600 + exercise for months despite wanting to lose. Guess what I lost a pound amazing totally don't get it. No hormonal explanation and I ate a solid 3-400 more cals per day and if any thing exercised less than normal b/c I had an exam this week. Oh well I'll take it. I think I will do one more week at maintenance and then try to drop it down again.

Hope everyone had a great week. Kate

Happy Friday Ladies. Surprise no loss here ... no gain either though.

Kbella- I think your intake is totally reasonable and you aren't losing really fast so it seems sustainable. If the diziness is only when you stand up it is very likely orthostatic hypotension- basically your BP drops when you stand up and then stabilizes- often the result of dehydration so I would say drink more water. I am a little over 5'10' and 165 and I workout 5-6 days a week- 1-2 hours of cardio or yoga. No weights- I just get too big. I have my activity set at light because all the rest of my time is spent in the library. I eat an average of 1500-1600 cals regardless of exercise. So your cals seem more than reasonable for some one 25 lbs lighter. Congrats on losing so consistently.

Welcome new members!

Great job ladies with all the losses this week. No loss here which is quite frustrating considering I have had one day over 1600 calories in the last 2 weeks. I need to do something differently but not sure what. Did take a few minutes off my 4 mile time this week so I am making fitness progress at least. I agree that the 130's seems so impossible for me. Considering how long it is taking me to lose 15lbs- 145-150 is as far as this weight loss is realistically going to go. I really admire all your guys' self control.

Okie have a great trip!

Danielle have fun with your mom! Are you going shopping? oh I love it when my parents come to visit :)

The "low fat" versions don't always have fewer calories and in my opinion all the extra ingredients are not worth it. I would rather eat less of something with 3 ingredients than more of something with 15. Even a lot of the low fat cheeses have extra ingredients.

Happy Friday ladies!! I am down one lb from last week + started ttom so I am really hoping that finally the scale is going to move a little. I have a college reunion October 17 and would really like to at least be the weight I was at this time last year by then- only 6lbs to go :) I am taking my test at noon today so will have to show great restraint at the after party. Plan to eat a big healthy dinner before I go so that I just drink and avoid the snackies.

Caroline and Julz- jealous of your fun vacations. It is so worth a few pound gain to enjoy good food on vacation! I am sure you will both be back down this week.

Hope everyone had a great week and enjoy the weekend!

Well the net damage from the indian festival was just a 0.5lb gain. Not sweating it because I had some killer workouts this week. Went to yoga three times on top of my run/walks. First week into my half-marathon plan so hoping to see some changes soon.

Anyone have big plans for the holiday weekend? I plan to study all weekend yipee  why the profs decided to schedule a bog exam the friday after labor day is beyond me. But it will mean less beer and snacking so that is a plus.

kbella- congrats on another pound down.

okie- def agree with Danielle that your weigh-in doesn't count. Think how easy weight loss would be without hormones.

danielle- Thanks! Hope you have a good weekend too. Have a long run planned?

Danielle, So sorry the weigh in didn't go well. It seems so unfair that you can do really well with excercise and then one bad weekend of food blows like 2 wks of work. I went to an indian festival this weekend and gained about 6lbs of water weight overnight :) but it sure was yummy. Hoping to have it all gone by Friday. Not likely but hoping.

Also you have a great shape!!! I would love to be able to wear a 6-8 pants. I will never be able to do that again. When I weighed 40lbs less than I do now (oh college what did you do to my body)  I could wear a 6 (sometimes). At 160- 165 I am solidly a 10/12 in pants. I blame it on my mother's side of the family and their hips/butt. My bff is 5' and weighed 87 lbs last month at the doctor. She is taking meds to try to make her hungrier so she can gain 15 lbs. I'm like I will give you 15lbs.

We are in this together keep your head up and next week will be better. K

kbella- when is the wedding? Are you planning on making goal by then? Congrats on the dress fitting even better bet it looks great!

Okie- trips home are always so much fun and so baaaaaaad for the diet. I am sure those lbs will be gone this week.

Carol- Have fun at the wedding!

Etah- How is the recovery going? Still well I hope.

I managed to get rid of my 2 lbs of female water weight from last week but no actual loss. Had three really good yoga classes this week and good cardio the other days. I am trying to go about 30 min early and run for awhile before yoga class but I want to add 10 minutes or so more this week. Diet was really good this week except for went to lunch with a friend yesterday and ate one of those great cheesy panera sandwiches. Oh well. Everyone have a great weekend!

Welcome newcomers and hello again to the old posters. Now that school is starting and I am  back at home making my own food, I am back full force on this site. I agree we need to bring back the friday weigh in. I need the accountability.

Current 167, Lowest weight (last Feb)-159, Goal 150

I am determined to lose the remainder of the ten pounds I gained all in the month of Feb. (yes feb. was apparently a horrible month and I have only managed to lose 2 of those pounds since then ) + the nine I had left to get to goal weight. So that makes a total of 17 lbs to lose!! It will happen in 2009.

Danielle- Yay for not being above your starting weight. I totally feel you on the relapsing but lets really hit it hard so that we look fab in fall. I just got a new pair of frye boots that I am dying to wear with cute fall dresses but need fab legs to do so. What is your motivation outfit?

Okie and Carol- the 120's continue to amazing you go girls!

Etah- So glad the tuck went well!!!

I have been remiss on my logging this summer. Have been traveling a lot and not living at my house much makes it harder to monitor everything.  Have only lost two pounds all summer even with walking about 4 miles a day. I think I need to start running again in earnest. Doing another half marathon in December so hoping to lose about 10 lbs training for that.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey ladies, I am still here. haven't been posting because I am not really losing. Good news is I'm NOT gaining which is great. Just moved home for the summer and have tried to stick with the diet and up the exercise as I now have plenty of free time. My mom has a great garden so looking forward to all the fresh organic veggies. Also eating quite a few free range eggs since mom has chickens too.

Yoga I feel you on the risks of vacationing while trying to lose. Going on vacation soon to Florida Keys then to New York then to Maine. Will make my way all the way up the east coast over about three weeks. Should be fun but am worried about weight since will have no way to weigh myself and always seem to gain on vacation even if I am walking everywhere and trying to make good choices.

Etah- First congrats on the consultation.  It is a major change so it is natural to be nervous but you have wanted this for so long I am sure you will be thrilled when it is actually time. I totally feel you about the weight lifting... it is such a double edged sword... on one hand you look totally cut and on the other you are getting heavier and in some cases wider... I had a breakdown last week when I couldnt button the sleeves of a cap sleeved blouse for work.  I have been really trying to lift since my weight loss was stalled with all the cardio but while i feel less "jiggly" I am definately heavier and bigger. I am hoping with the nice weather I will start doing more cardio by default and then i will be muscular AND skinny :)

Hang in there!

Yoga- I hope the knees improve. Sometimes moderate exercise actually helps joints so I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I know it always seems that when I don't get my exercise I just feel down. Don't get discouraged!

Carol- You look incredible! I am sure it is really frustrating to keep zigzaging around but if you can up your calories slowly even if it means gaining a few pounds at first it will make life so much more enjoyable- think about the flexibility you will have with your choices.

I missed logging my weight last week because I was totally consumed with throwing a wedding shower for my friend at the last minute. It was my first couples shower but it all came together and was really fun.

I am having a lot of trouble with my weight I seem to be stuck now at 169 a whole ten pounds more than I was in January (then I had been stuck at 159 of 7 months). Wow it feels scary to type that but I think it is good since now I have to own up to the fact that it is just not going to disappear. Not sure what is going on but I am just going to keep on with the exercise and the 1400-1600 cals and hope my hormones chill out soon. I just don't think I can eat any less and stay sane. Thinking about another half marathon this summer- they are having a new one in Chicago which could be fun.

Hope you are all having a great week!

Weight Loss I want to quit drinking... Apr 17 2009
22:02 (UTC)

First congrats on quiting smoking!! On the alcohol front- I quit drinking regularly about a year ago. Lost 20lbs, saved a whole lot of money, felt like I got my life in order- so I would say it was definately a good idea but I know it can be hard esp. if your social life is pretty much revolves around bars. Things that really helped me.

1. Don't buy alcohol to keep at home unless you are having a special event and people coming over. This cuts out the well its been a long day maybe I'll have "just one" type drink.

2. When going out, take a set amount of cash for say 2 drinks which makes it much easier to stop instead of having that sneaky tab going.

3. Order soda and lime in a short glass. Then you look like you are drinking a vodka and soda and it is LOW cal. This cuts down on peer pressure and people offering to buy you drinks since it seems you already have one.

4. On nights you plan on drinking quite a bit eat a good dinner before going out. I found that then I didn't feel like drinking as much and I was less hungover the next day.

Good Luck!

Happy Easter weekend everybody! Hope the weight loss/maintenance is going well for all. I still haven't lost anything but I am really upping my weights and feel like I am looking trimmer so I am just taking a break from the numbers on the scale.

I am not going to be at my parent's house for Easter for the first time in my life. I guess it is good food wise since there won't be nearly so much temptation.  Today I plan a nice long walk since it is supposed to be about 65 and sunny. Perfect! I think though I will have cinnamon rolls for breakfast tomorrow am before church as an Easter treat.

Have a great day.

Weight Loss Losing weight on birth control? Apr 07 2009

I think it totally depends on the person. Personally, I find it harder to lose quickly on the pill but that they really help with maintaining weight (less hormonal fluctuation probably.) I lost about 12lbs (over about 6 months) while taking the pill and then had been the same weight for over 7 months. I stopped taking the pills to see if I would have more energy and gained 8lbs in a week. The weight has stayed there for 2 months despite no changes in diet and exercise. I just started back taking them to see what would happen.

If you eat right and continue to exercise I am sure you will be fine. Good Luck!

Okie- I think travelling anywhere results in a 3-5 lb temporary gain even if you think you have been so good. I am sure it will be gone in a few days.

Etah- Do you like the New Rules Program? I am looking for some sort of program to give me a little more structure to my lifting.

Skookum- Yay a new uniform and not gaining without counting. What a great week.

Welcome to everyone new!

For me it seems I am holding steady at 167. I think that 8lbs is here to stay for right now. Really increasing weights and am up to over 100lbs on some of the leg excercises so despite the gain I still feel like I am making progress with my fitness.

Welcome all the new members.

I did my half marathon last week and set a personal best despite the fact it was super windy and cold. I have continued with my workout plan (increasing my weight lifting) and haven't had any cookies or chocolate for two weeks (gave em up for lent) so I am feeling very healthy. Unfortunately my 8+ hormonal pounds seem to be here to stay. I am trying not to freak out since my measurements haven't changed at all.

Have a great weekend.

Hey ladies! I haven't checked the forum in so long I am really behind on all the posts. It is great to see it is still so active.

Suiter- Welcome

Danielle- New Job!!! Tell us how the first day went.

Skookum- Great work in a year.

I have no good weight loss news. I went off my bc pills at the first of the month and the 3lbs I gained in january got an extra 5 to go with them. I am hoping this is mostly hormonal "issues" and will miraculously disappear but with each passing day I am less optimistic. I haven't changed my diet and have really upped the exercise. Anyone else had any experience stopping birthcontrol and gaining weight (oh and I am definately not pregnant :))?

On a more exciting note, I am going to do another half-marathon Sunday in FLORIDA!!!!!! yippee even if it is just for a few days the sun will be nice and i get a vera bradley tote bag for finishing- even better.

Hope you all have a lovely week,

Kate

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I think i might just give up...don't worry not really..... but I am feeling very down on this whole thing. Despite upping my mileage this week and really counting/measuring my food I have not lost again. In fact if my scale is to be believed I have gained nearly five pounds in a week and a half weighing in at 164 lbs what I weighed last March :(  Do you think 1700 kcal a day is too much? I was just soooooooo hungry at 1500 after my workouts. Sorry for the rant.

Hope you all had better weeks and that the losses keep coming. Have a wonderful friday.

Hello ladies, Hope you had a great week!

Okie- CONGRATULATIONS on reaching goal!!!!!

Yoga- good work this week- two more pounds is great esp after doing so well last week too.

Carol- so close you can do it....this week is the week!

mellisa- we all have good days and bad days with weight loss. Keep your head up and keep going to the gym. Even if the number on the scale doesnt change you will feel sooooo much better.

Danielle- sounds like your ski trip was so much fun plus just being cold burns calories right :) if you try any of those recipes and they are really good. I would love to get it from you.

I had a pretty good week diet wise. Lots of raw fruits and veggies and very few processed artifical foods. Also really stuck to the wieght lifting at the gym (i even felt sore a few days). No loss this week but still holding steady. I feel "lighter" and less bloated so I am hoping that next week will be the week that I finally lose. Also beginning to think my 15 year old analog scale is totally screwy and may need to invest in another one seeing as I can weigh one thing when i get up and then i eat and get dressed and weigh 2lbs less than i did with no clothes or food. Hahah don't ask why i weigh myself like 10 times a day. 6 months at the same weight has me grasping at straws :)

Have a great weekend!
