Keep up with the testing that you are doing with your Dr. but I also HIGHLY recommend seeing a acupuncturist. It was the only thing in the end that really helped me long term, and without the use of drugs. I'm not bashing western medicine here because it is very important, but it's amazing what can happen when east and west put their medical heads together ;) This is what worked for me. We are a complex system! good luck. |

Fear = lack of control + lack of KNOWLAGE / unknowen future. (I made that little equation up ;) But really, you are not alone in all of your fears and concerns. I can tell you in NO UNCERTEN TERMS, that the best way "I" was able to balance fear is through knowlage. Learn everything you need to about nutrition, physiology and how the body works in this regard and you will be far less afraid. You will gain the confidence and control to make good choices for your body while being able to have an educated guess about the furtre consiquences of those choices. It's very impowering and you can slowely redirect that need to fixate into something very constructive. Everything that is negitive can be redirected into something positive. I really believe this. hang in there. and start by reading "the food connection" by Sam Gracie (not sure of spelling sorry) Hope this helps |

| Weight Loss | Calories VS Nutrients | Aug 28 2008 16:49 (UTC) |
|
I agree with all of the above. It's not just about energy, it's also about the "ingredients" that your body needs to fight infection, regenerate, grow new tissue and the list goes on. But specific to sustainable weight loss is the understanding of the effects of sugar. Carbohydrates are basically sugar, but it's worth understanding the difference between complex carbohydrates, and simple sugars/carbs. simply put, the difference between a nutrient rich slice of whole grain bread, or a candy bar.....Try as often as possible to think QUALITY OVER QUANTITY (but enough cals is very important to weight loss too!!!) To be really simple about why, sugar is handled by our bodies by insulin. When we eat too much simple sugar, ie candy, insulin levels spike and the result is fat storage because our bodies can't burn it fast enough. The difference with complex carbs, is a much lower rise in insulin and a steady level of energy without sending our bodies into fat storage mode. Not only that, but we don't experience the spikes and dips in energy levels throughout the day. you know that 2pm crash? far less likely if lunch was balanced, and low in simple sugars. If you must have simple sugar, you can reduce the insulin rise with FIBER! This is really a subject you would do well to educate yourself on. So important. Hope this was enough to spark some interest! take care. http://www.amazon.ca/Food-Connection-Right-Ti me/dp/0470838477 I HIGHLY recommend this book. |

This made me laugh my but off! husband: "Have you noticed that I've been trying to eat better?" me: "I have actually!" husband: "cause I have you know..." me: "so do you have a goal? something short term to go for? ...I find that keeps me on track" husband: "Ya I have a goal" me: "oh great! what is it?" husband: "to keep you happy!" I almost peed myself!

I have to laugh my ass off hear for a moment. It quickly becomes obvious those of us posting on this thread who are from Canada, and form the US. It's just so jarring to hear about people carrying guns with them for protection. I personally don't agree with ALL (most) of Canada's gun laws, but I'll tell you one thing, I wouldn't want to be a cop in the states! |

I likes guns.... hay, I'll tell you what I have and like; though it is not for everyone. Glock 22 .40 cal. BUT for practice (and because amo is cheeper...) I have a .22 conversion. Two for one! if you ever see yourself wanting a few different cals. but like to keep the same FEEL of gun. It's easy to shoot, light polymer frame, easy to maintain, and just great quality. I also enjoy the sig226 9mm. not as cheep on amo as the .22, but not bad. Don't pay too much attention to the cost of the gun, just get something you like because the real cost is going to be in the ammunition. Have fun, be safe, AND WATCH THAT MUSSEL DIRECTION!

WOW I am so glad I started this thread! Ledgehanger, thank you for your insights. I think that we are moving in the right directions together without me nagging, but I really like your suggestions. When he does decided to really come around I hope it will be easy because he's the only one not eating well right now. ie no ice cream under his nose while the rest of us get it ;) it's just our 5yo and us two. This is a question that I would like to pose to you and to anyone (probably everyone) that has the issue of time management. He comes home from a stressful job and just wants to unwind in his way...and play with our daughter. Unfortunately, his way of unwinding is to sit at the computer and play games or read forums...(ahemmm) not that any of that is bad or something that I want him to stop doing. it's just that that is what he does at work too, so hence the sitting at a computer all day. I don't know, we have talked a little about it. He is a very reasonable, logical thinker so he knows that things need to change if they aren't going to get worse. Right now he would be healthy if he lost 30lb (an that's not going to give him a gym body...) he would be healthy. If this doesn't change soon, it will be 100lb in a couple of years and major health problems. So far he's been making better food choices at work and not having as much "junk" after work. We just need to get that workout in.... Thanks everyone, I really appreciate this community. You're a great lot! |

I am in completely the same boat! I should be eating more, but I get FULL! and I do eat calorie dense foods. lol we're the same right down to the organic dark chocolate! too funny... of course I'm 30! not sweet 16.... Good comments here I'd say I'm trying to do the same. By the way, I think you are a very intelligent, articulate young lady. Good for you for educating yourself and making good choices. best of luck ;) |

OMG I love them! They are expensive but that depends on how you measure value....a 600cal lrg cone could be $2.50 compared to a 100cal better quality food that costs a little more. 600cals is going to be a better bang for you buck, but it will also give you a BIGGER bang for your BUTT!!! haha quality vs. quantity. |

Thanks guys, I didn't think I was the only one with this problem...lol Littlemalynda, I can totally see how you felt this way when your bf was into health and fitness. As someone who also is, I just KNOW that some people think I'm judgmental of others who are not. Really I'm not! I just love to talk about things that matter to me...this is one of those culturally difficult subjects for some though. Anyone who is into fitness MUST be a condescending snob, almost in the same way that "visibly" unfit (because thin people can be unfit too) MUST be lazy. Oh we're hard on ourselves and each other aren't we? But I digress.... fortunately my husband doesn't put all that garbage into it. I'm just trying to be sensitive so I don't turn him off of it like you were littlemalynda. I want him to find his own zest for it. And use me as a source of motivation! We do go on hikes together when we can, and a can USUALLY get him to come on bike rides with our daughter and I on the weekends. (she and I ride every day on a tandum bike. Best thing ever!!!) It's just not enough you know? Well this will be an interesting thread, thanks all... |

Well hi! I would love to join this 30's group. I am 30. 5'6 and 112lb. (I know, i'm working on that...) I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, the most amazing husband on the planet, (sorry girls:) and I love music, fire arms, and weights! I joined cc about a week ago at the advice of a friend and I love it. Obviously, I'm using cc as a tool to track my lifestyle habits to make sure they are what they should be. I have a long history of not eating enough...(which I won't get into here) cc as been very eye opening for me. Even now I find that most days still have room for a spoon full of nutella or some ice cream! mmm... Here's to being 30, healthy and happy at every size and shape. It's been a real renaissance for me. cheers. |

You know, I just hate "diet" foods all together! it's not just sodium they tend to be hiding in large quantities; SUGAR is also bad. especially the high-fructose corn syrup that tends to be in all commercially prepared foods. Just because it's fat free, doesn't make it healthy. http://www.healthmad.com/Nutrition/Dangers-of -High-Fructose-Corn-Syrup.32885 haha, one more thing to watch out for, sorry. Just remember, it's all in the name of better health.

You know, as someone who has had an ED I can tell you that completely know what it is like to have a phobia of weight gain! That said, a am currently very health, fit and only 3lb underweight.....still working on that.... To my point! I am very active, a runner, biker, martial artist, and mother (well, mother first but we're talking expenditure here) The best thing I did for myself we get EDUCATED. understanding nutrition and metabolism is key to being able to relax and know what you are doing. I suppose you could say that understanding gives you that "control" that we think makes us feel better. lol Here's a good analogy: think of you metabolism like a fire pit. If you are always skimping out on the wood you put on that fire, it is only going to get cooler. at your activity level you body will conserve those cals. so here's the kicker, you are afraid of putting weight back on. but the longer you keep those calories too low, the more your body will adjust to that, and you will start storing again...all while eating less and less! Take some advice form a recovered anorexic, listen to your personal trainer! add those calories back slowly (200 each week say) you'll see that it will be OK and you won't put that weight back on. YOU WILL IF YOU RESTRICT!!! i KNOW!!! personal stroy: 5'6 104lb start really getting better and working out. start eating 1800 cal/day (really hard to do) gained 5lb in two weeks Shortly after, LOST 6lb (you could NOT have told an anorexic that eating more working out would take LB's off) -that's 1800 from 500 by the way. So guess what, now that the fire was burning again, I felt like I could eat anything I wanted! wow liberating!!! My body was healing and I could eat without the fear! (There's a lot more to it that this, BUT for this argument all leave it at that) Well sorry, that was a lot longer than it was supposed to be;) You've lost the weight. DON'T keep restricting or it WILL come back! Congratulations! now nourish your body, stay fit and love food! feel free to Pm me any time. I know that demon fear.... |
