i have been dieting/exercising for 2 years now and i am still not happy with my tummy. beat that! little shellys is right, the kind of food you are eating plays a MAJOR role. At the beginning of this 2 years, I was overweight and ate complete junk all the time. When I decided to start changing my lifestyle, I joined a gym and at first only concentrated on portion control. In 9 months I was working out 5-6 days a week, eating less junk and healthier portions, and was at a perfect weight, if not close to too low. but i still had a flabby belly. I developed an eating disorder and whittled down to 95 pounds, but guess what? I still had a belly. One year ago i weighed 95 pounds and was eating about 600 calories a day. Today I weigh 118 lbs and have a flat stomach. what's changed? I now do a combination of weight training and cardio (as opposed to the long cardio-only sessions I used to do), but i also eat completely differently. Fiber is excellent for you, for health and for weight loss, but I've discovered if I eat too much fiber at once, I get bloated for a few hours. Veggies and fruits are also so good for you, but for me, once again if i eat big servings of them they also make me feel and look a little bloated. And worst of all, I've personally discovered, is refined sugars. Even when i fot them into my calorie count for the day, I still just don't look or feel the same when they are included in my diet. But lastly, although 4 months is awesome and congrats for starting a healthy new lifestyle, it's going to take longer than that for your body to transform. Also, if you lost the weight easily and rather quickly, your skin may not be keeping up with the weight loss. Good luck, you'll do great. |

im sorry in advance if i come off as rude. i am an animal nurse and very very very into animal welfare. do not let your cat outside anymore. you are very very lucky that someone has been taking CARE of her. get that flea collar off her neck. they dont work. they don't do anything. my parents cats love being outside, and my mother is just like you, she just feels too bad not letting them out. she's had 3 cats get hit by cars. cats are not made to be indoor animals, i know. they need air, space, things to chase, constant new mental stimulators. this is what humans get for domesticating animals with such instincts. |

Check out Oxygen magazine. you will immediately become addicted and very, very well informed about women's weight lifting. Oxygen magazine is my bible. i go to it whenever i have a routine rut, or diet/food rut, whenever i am concerned about a certain food i've been eating....anything. it has no fashion crap or gossip trash. i'll be the first to admit i love that stuff, but that's why i buy People magazine.
haha i sound like a salesman. i'll shut up now. as long as you go do it! haha. |

hahahahaha i feel bad but i definately have to agree with cklapp2!!! i mean, i hear you, girl. a compliment from a table full of boys is a compliment. in high school i would have been flattered by that too. but, it's super annoying and a huge turn off (to me!) when peoplehave horrendous grammar like that. holy cow. how did he get to his senior year of high school talking like that? |

if you are walking at a 3-4 mph pace, do this equation to find out how many calories you have burned:
walking definately burns fewer calories than most people thing, BUT i absolutely agree with you that any exercise vs. watching TV for that 65 minutes is way better! |

because i naturally carry my weight on my upper body, and its so hard to lose fat on my upper body, but my legs have always been lean. i might as well try to make my body proportionate by building my lower body up since it has been a fruitless struggle to whittle my upper body down |

| The Lounge | Halloween Costumes! | Aug 13 2008 15:58 (UTC) |

Too early?! PLEASE! i start thinking of my next halloween costume after new years eve, haha. Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday! whoever said it was right, at least in college anyway, halloween has apparently turned into an excuse for s to dress like s. It's actually no longer halloween, but a skin bearing contest. whose shoes can be the shiniest, highest, whose legs can be the barest, who skirt can be the shortest or easiest to look up, whose cleavage can hang out the best, and whose hair and makeup can look the most -film. anyway, i love doing matching halloween costumes. last year i dressed as poison ivy the villan from batman, and my ex-boyfriend dressed as batman. the year before that he and i dressed as "catholic school kids gone bad" with cigarettes behind our ears, our shirts untucked, etc. the year before that my roomate and i were "good /bad ", and the year before that i was in high school and went as a black cat. this year i am hoping i can convince my boyfriend to dress up as clarence so i can dress as alabama from the huge shoot-out scene in the movie "true romance". that or 2008 bonnie and clyde. some easy/cheap stuff is dressing like any animal, really. they sell simple masks/ears/tails for almost any animal. you could also go for stuff like an athelete, farmer, angel, . i had one friend who blue up a bunch of purple balloons and attatched them to his clothes (he was grapes!). another friend cut out a head and arm holes in a big box, wrapped it in gift wrap, and attatched a "gift tag" that read "To Women, From God" HAHAHAHA that was a good one!!! another really good one that never got old(and definately won't for you, since it will be your first time doing it) is the "burnt out rockband" my best friends were all guys, and every single year of college, since they were so broke every year, they'd go to the thrift store and purposefully buy the craziest, most ill-fitting clothes they could find. they'd grow ridiculous facial hair like chops and handlebar moustaches. HAH! i love my friends! |

| Weight Loss | Does anyone else feel... | Aug 12 2008 14:01 (UTC) |

| when i was at my lowest weight, i had incredible control over myself, my food choices, my portion sizes, and every bite i took. i also had no friends, spent all my free time at home alone. my school schedule changed, so i couldnt work out so much, and i gained weight, but then i regained control and got back into a workout routine. i was healthy, mildly social, and almost happy with my body.
then i started dating my boyfriend. ive gained weight because he loves ice cream and chocolate and bread and he's 6'3 and has the metabolism of a 12 year old boy. also i spend alot of my free time with him cuddling in bed instead of staying active. so, to be thin, in control, and happy with your body, or not so thin, not so in control, and have a social life? some people would choose the social life immediately and think it wasnt even an argument. for me, and it looks like some of you, too...it's not such an easy desicion. |

i am a certified veterinary technician (a.k.a., animal nurse). as some have already said, the higher the concentration of cocoa in the chocolate, the more toxic it is to dogs. it is not good for them at all, but in this case the dog will be ok. in the future, PLEASE keep that kind of food out of the animals reach. small amounts of milk are ok for animals. often we recommend adding a little bit to the animals water dish if they are not drinking and an owner needs to get their animal to drink more. lastly, popcorn is ok too. the animals could choke on kernels though. or if you know your animal has allergies to it. but, generally speaking, if you know of any allergies that a pet has, it is a good idea not to let it have ANYTHING besides it's food and pet treats. usually when a pet has allergies, it can be allergic to alot more than you know of. |

same thing happened to me. because you were underweight and stopped restricting, your metabolism was still super-slow from you starving it, so thats why you gained so much fat. the best thing that ive ever done for myself is taken up weight lifting. its awesome. for now, keep your diet the same, or at least try to cut out the really bad stuff, but dont restrict calories. the easiest things for me to kick were stuff that is just plain gross, like potato chips, candy bars, soda, butter, cream, and pure sugar. (some good replacements for all those things, by the way, are 100 calorie packs, carrot sticks, fruit, diet soda, "i cant believe its not butter" spray, skim milk or light soymilk, and splenda). do about 30-45 minutes of cardio per day. afterwards just do 15-30 mins of weight lifting, depending on how quickly you want to get serious about it and how much time you have after cardio. i started out while recovering from my eating disorder with 15 minutes a day, 3 days a week. now i do 30-45 minutes 4 days a week. i love it. buy magazines like "oxygen" and "muscle and fitness hers". they are targeted at women's weight lifting, and are great for beginners and experienced lifters alike. you will be able to pick out exercises YOU like, but they dont tell you how much weight to use. you can figure it out for yourself! start out with 5, 8, or 10 lb weights (i dont know how strong you are). see how you like it, how you feel.

| these are great ideas! im glad you started this post because i was growing sick of my ways of eating cottage cheese, but it is sooo good for you.
i (used to) love it with splenda and cinnamon. it's also really good in scrambled eggs. cut up grape tomatoes is yummy, or freeze dried chives mixed in is also good. i recently stocked up on the Breakstones cottage cheese doubles which are really good, but a little high in sugar for me so i try not to overdo it with them. if you actually do a google for cottage cheese recipes and look at bodybuilding sites, some of the recipes are pretty good. speaking of that i have another one! hollow out a pepper, make a mixture of cottage cheese, tomatoes, ground beef/boca meat/chicken/whatever your meat of choice is, onions, pepper, oregano, rice, and bake it. its just a stuffed pepper, with cottage cheese. sooooooooooooooooooooo good |
