Health & Support Levothyroxine + Contraceptive? Feb 10 2009

I actually take my levothyroxine and BC at the same time, at night, and its fine!  (You're supposed to wait like an hour before eating anything after you take it and you can't eat anything about 2 hours before you take it, so night works best for me)  The only thing to watch out for is multivitamins or any other calcium containing supplement since calcium can interfere with the levoxythroxine, so those should be taken far apart.

The only time you  need to worry about BC with your tablets is if you go off BC or get pregnant or anything of that nature because it can affect you thyroid hormone levels and your medication may need to be adjusted.  (this is all info from my doctor, I've asked the same questions).  Good luck!

I was a was a chemistry TA my first year at grad school and we had people miss classes ALL THE TIME!  For the most part they had the option of a make up lab (for people who miss lab or who do really bad in one, held at the end of the semester).  Also, are there multiple sections of the lab?  Sometimes if I had a student who couldn't come to the normal section we could arrange for them to complete the lab for the week in someone else's section.  Obviously you would need to talk to your teacher about it though.  I'm sure you're fine, you're not the first person to miss lab :)

Haha I've lost almost 7 pounds in a month!  And it was going slower and I upped mine (from what CC told me to do, 1250 or something like that) to what my BMR was, 1450 about a week or two ago and have seen it go pick up after a bit of a stand still  :)

As far as I know (I am by no means an expert, relatively new to the site but stalk the forums shamelessly), calories are calories.  The main reason to avoid ice cream, fried chicken, etc etc is that they don't provide the nutritional value your body needs to function properly, and in addition, they can be high in fats of all kinds.  But I see no harm in treating myself to some ice cream (it could even be full fat I think, as long as you limit yourself!  the calories add up quick)!  It helps to prevent the binging that comes with total deprevation :)

Haha I somehow find it very easy to eat my alotment but wish I didn't!  Bananas are a fruit that's relatively high in calories if you want to substitute that for another fruit you're eating?  Or you can do like me and go get some low fat soft serve ice cream as a treat to boost the calories:)  That's my favorite way to get to where I need to be.  good luck!

Almonds are great and healthy (1/4 cup is about 130 calories for the kind I get) and keep you full.  Olive oil (when you're cooking vegetables or meat), avacados, milk are all healthy ways to increase your calories!  Good luck :)

You look as if you may be eating under your BMR (which you should never do!).  As a 160lb 5'3" 24 year old female, I have to eat at least 1450 calories a day for my body to function correctly.  I put in your stats (http://www.phord.com/cc/) and it says that you should eat at least 1516 calories a day just being sedentary!  Try uping your caloric uptake for awhile and see if that helps.  Good luck!

Congratulations on the weight loss so far!  I'm not sure about the rate at which your losing, but one thing you might want to consider to help you from here on out is increasing your calorie intake!  According to the BMR calculator (http://www.phord.com/cc/), your BMR is 1656, and you should never eat less than your BMR.  Even though you're loosing weight now, in the future you might stall out if you're not giving your body what it needs.  I am of similar age and height for you and started out eating 1200-1350 calories because that's what CC told me to do to reach my goal weight.  Bu then after reading some forums, I realized that CC doesn't take into account your BMR when they give you a goal for your caloric intake, so I have upped mine to 1450 (my BMR) and have seen positive results!  Good luck!

I've had trouble too figuring out what to bring as a healthy lunch!  Lately, on Sunday, I've been grilling several chicken breasts and making a low calorie chicken salad (i use non fat plain yogurt, gulden's dijon mustard, celery, onion, and season with lemon pepper and nature's seasons) that will last for several meals.  i combine that with either veggies i've bought or prepared, or you can bring some bread and make a sandwhich! that way all your cooking is done by monday morning and you've got a filling lunch for most of the week.  good luck on your new job!

I was actually wondering about how washing canned veggies would work with the sodium, good to know it will help some!  Thanks all, I went to the store tonight and got the low sodium cheese and plenty of frozen veggies, including the ones you can steam in the bag in the microwave!

Thanks so much, those are great tips!  I may also try buying several chicken breasts and cooking them all, then shredding them up on a sandwich (maybe with the provolone cheese you suggested!) as a low sodium but filling lunch! I do have a Trader Joes near by and will definitely try and head out there this weekend.  Thanks, good luck keeping the sodium low :)

Oh, and one more note.  I pretty much always cook meals at night for myself, so my sodium is much lower for dinner, but it seems I've already eaten too much sodium by that point in the day anyway!  And I bring in leftover dinner when I can, but I tend to have higher calorie dinners than I would otherwise want to eat at lunch...

Calorie Count How does the burn meter work? Aug 13 2008
18:11 (UTC)

Thanks!  Maybe I switched it to light activity at some point and didn't realize it.  I think I'll keep it on sedentary since for the most part I sit at a desk, I enjoy seeing the "calories burned" go up! Thanks for your help!

Hi all, I asked this question in another thread in under Weight Loss but I figured I might should ask it here as well.

I'm new to the site and think I have most of it figured out (and am already obsessed!), except for one thing.  I selected sedentary originally as my status because for the most part I sit at school all day.  I do tend to work out 5-6 times a week, and after a week of logging my activities, CC switched me to "light activity" (i'm assuming because I meet the "no more than 2 hours a day of activity criteria), which obviously boosted my "calories burned" for the day.

My question is, when light activity is checked, are you still supposed to fill in your workouts?  Does checking light activity increase your calories burned based on the assumption that you'll work out most days, or does it increase because of some metabolic increase from getting daily exercise?  I'm trying to make sure I'm between 500-1000 on my calorie deficit and obviously this is important!  Thanks so much!

Thanks, I hope that's the case cause that means my deficit's a lot larger than I thought!  Good luck!
