The media around H1N1 is driving me crazy.  36,000 people (in the US) die every year from flu complications. While H1N1 is a scary new illness all the media hype is scaring everyone.

My advice (for what it's worth): Follow normal flu precautions (wash hands, etc.), if you get sick go to the doctor, and don't kiss any pigs.

Dear co-worker

Please please please stop muttering to yourself all day.  It is distracting.  Almost as distracting as the terrible music you play at your desk.  No one wants to hear the Bee Gee's when they are trying to work.

We all know how busy you are.  As is everyone else.  So when we ask you to help us do something it is not because we are too stupid to figure it out.  It is simply because we need to do it and and don't have time with the million other tasks that need to get done.

i saw my papaw the night he died. he was sitting in the chair that was in the corner of my room...he said, go back to sleep sweetie, i'll be right here. he was, IRL in a hospital bed 20 miles away dying from lukemia.

I was 3/4, and didn't understand until i got older what this experience meant. I asked my mother the next morning where my papaw was (he stayed with us on weekends sometimes while my dad was away in the army) i was expecting to see him in the kitchen cooking breakfast or making coffee. Which is why i asked where he was, instead my mom told me he went to heaven.

I haven't seen him since, but i sometimes wish i would.

I saw my Dad too the night he died.  He said "Don't worry kid you're going to be OK".  He visited my Mom as well the night after he died.  She woke up and he was standing next to the bed then he vanished after a couple of minutes. My Mom and I also saw a dark figure in our bedrooms on a few occasions. We assumed it was him.  We moved away from that house and he hasn't visited since.  Like you, I kind of wish he would.

I've had sleep paralysis before, too, although it has gotten better in recent years and it's not very frequent.  I remember once when I was about 8 years old, I "woke up" and had the distinct impression that I was being held down by several hands all over my body, and the sheets were blowing around wildly as if in a strong wind.  I tried to scream but couldn't make a sound.  I haven't had any as vivid as that since, but I have had it happen several times when I felt like I was awake, and tried to speak, scream or move, but couldn't.

What do you believe this actually was? I think I read in another post that you didnt believe in ghosts and stuff. (Or was that someone else? sorry if i mixed you up). but I just wonder if youve read up on any explanations of what this could be. Is normal sleep paralysis like this?

I have had a similar experience on 2 separate occasions where I woke up (or thorught I was awake) and it felt like someone was holding me down.  I was on my back and it felt like a hand on my holding my face to the side.  I couldn't speak or move.  It was weird and scary.

I like to boil sausages first to get most of the grease out.  So when I add them into the crock pot or a casserole there is less fat to absorb.

Absolutely agree with advice form tciherr.

One other thing I can add that helped me land a job after being laid off for 4 months - after the interview/s send not only a thank you email but also send a hand written thank you note.  In this difficult job market you need to stand out from the crowd and a hand written note card helps you do that and you can reinforce what a great fit you are for the job at the same time.

Good luck!

Getting the scale back down in the right direction. I increased exercise and food intake and it seems to be working. I power-walked a 5k yesterday and it was amazing.  I had tons of energy to do it all over again!

Still at 206.6, but I am happy the scale is stating to move again.  I have been stuck for a while now and I think I can keep it moving in the right direction.  I completed a 5k this weekend.  Power walked the majority of the way (jogged a little) and it was a fantastic workout.  I had so much energy when it was over that I could have done it all over again!  Next year I want to jog the entire way.

Love Bob!  He was so funny when Jillian wanted to give the woman that wanted to quit a DAY to come back.  He said a day, what about 10 minutes! I was laughing.  I was proud of her for getting back up to do it. Dan has a good partner once she gets her head in the game.

What about the woman who is still in the hospital for trying to run/walk a mile!?!  So sad that she is that out of shape.  When I saw them running I knew I don't have a single excuse to keep going when I want to quit. It made me go out and walk 3 miles last night after dinner  and I'll be doing it again tonight.

Pavlov I am with you - I have 70 pounds to go and it seems like nothing when they are looking at 1, 2, even 300 pounds to lose.

I am happy to say I finally saw the scale move in the right direction!  I am back down to 206 where I stated at the beginning of the month.  I think I have not been eating enough.  I have upped my calories to 1600 and plan to hit the gym tonight!

Health & Support What does it mean when you walk down the stairs and you here an odd grinding sound coming from your knees? Sep 11 2009

My right knee started making a creaking noise when I walked up stairs about a year ago.  I noticed that my right knee feels the impact more when I run outside vs. running on a treadmill.  The harder impact of the pavement bothers joints more and my knee is evidently more sensitive.

I addressed it with my Dr. and she recommended taking 1500 mg glucosamine daily and using the free weights at the gym to strengthen my leg muscles.   I still have creaking but it has not gotten worse and I try to run on surfaces that absorb impact.

WHO ARE BIGGEST LOSER FANS?

I'm one, and I can't wait for the show to come on. It's funny how that show can motivate you. I normally do a hour bike ride or on the elliptical when it's on. Here lately I've been riding and walking on the treadmill to clean house. Or the re-runs of the biggest loser, but the newest show is what I'm waiting on.

Do you all think a man is going to win it or a girl? We want know until we see what we are working with.

I am a HUGE fan and can't wait for a new show to start.  It is a total motivator for me.  I get frustrated when I see them dropping 5, 10 or more pounds each week and I am begging for just a pound to go away!  LOL  But I know if I lived in a gym with trainers and nutritionists without distractions/temptations I could do the same. It's fun to watch either way.

I swear by the crate.  It is the best thing to control a crazy puppy.  I have a 7 month old Olde English Bulldog and the crate is her place to hang out when there is no one around to supervise her.  I made this mistake of letting her roam around unsupervised while I was upstairs for maybe 30 minutes. I came downstairs to a good size hole in my leather couch.  Very expensive mistake!

Labs are super crazy, I know from having 2 of my own a few years ago. They will calm down eventually but it seems like a really LONG time before that happens.

From what I've read second marriage do better. Think that's because the partners try harder or know more? Or maybe both?

Absolutely!  I am a divorcee married to a divorcee.  We have been married for 4 years, together 6.  We both understand that relationships take dedication and work.  We also appreciate each other more because we know what a bad marriage is like.
