The Lounge Article- What if everyone in America was thin? Sep 05 2008

While it would certainly be an indication of better health, thin doesn't always mean better health. Until people start subjecting themselves to a public fat-pinching body-fat-index, we really won't know for sure.

Still, can you imagine the drop in childhood and adult diabetes?

Does your state have an on-line system for checking names against convicted sex offenders? You simply run a name through and if he's ever been convicted, all the information regarding the crimes will be brought up.

What about asking the local police department if they've screened complaints?

If hubby did this would he feel better about it? But I've always asked myself why a guy would be interested in teaching little girl gymnastics. I don't get it but that doesn't mean it's not an honest living.

I think if you screen the guy this way, without his knowledge, and you're there during the classes, it's a safe environment.

I've been stalked like this, too. It wants to give birth in  your home, or nearby, close to you. You are the chosen one!

My neighbor's cat ran into a hamper and had her kittens, after several days of trying to keep it out of my house. A stray had 2 litters in my basement. I don't know why pregnant cats love me but it's kinda spooky.

Call the Humane Society or...let it in to have its kittens. :)

Speaking as someone who DOES know some troops who have been on a few tours in Iraq and troops who are currently over there, I can assure you that not a single one of them voluntarily went over there or are happy to be there. You know, I get the fact that they did enlist and signed on for the possibility of this, but to make it sound like they are gung ho about it is insane.

Now, what I have seen is one friend who has already been there twice and is set to go back a third time and he is looking for any way out possible. It has effected his life, mind, family, and soul in such negative ways.

The troops I know want to lie, do ANYTHING to get out of going again. Even be dishonorably discharged just to get out of going back! I have a friend who is now on the run because it messed him up SO bad over there. Say what you will about that, but these are all good people and they have been broken by this BS.

And then there's the question of whether the entire thing was necessary or not but don't get me going. ;)

I'm pretty liberal. I wasn't pushing the post over or anything but the last eight years have inspired me.

I get pissy and swear a lot.

Swearing is against the rules. So my family sends me to time-out.

I like time-out. But they haven't figured this out yet.

that's a situation that millions of girls find themselves in every year

it doesn't mean that the parents failed

it means that the kid has begun to learn about consequences

True. As a mom of teenagers I can tell you that by a certain age, they're making their own decisions despite what you've taught them.

I don't see this as a failing on Palin's part, necessarily.

The failing that I see is using her own pregnancy, and that of her daughter's, to prove her political points on family values.

You can put your family out there for brutal review or you can say, "Hands off" as Obama suggests. You can't have it both ways.

I have a machine, free weights and bike in my basement. I have 2 ambitious, motivated dogs that need walking.

I am gym-free.

I'm so happy.

Weight Loss BMI v.s Body Fat Aug 24 2008

One thing I focus on more than a body fat or body mass index calculator is the waist to hip ratio. I'm interested in maintaining good cardiovascular health, preventing diabetes, and increasing energy, but I'm not interested in looking like Barbie.

My BMI is under 20% but my waist to hip ratio is .85, clearly at an increased risk. My goal is reducing this number and ignoring the BMI.

Perhaps this will help:

That calculator is a body fat calculator, not a body mass index calculator. Two very different things.

If your wrists and forearms are quite slender but your hips and waist are not, it could indicate a high body fat percentage. But this website is a commercial apparently using the Navy's calculator.
