Cellulite Frustration!

Quote  |  Reply

Hello Everyone!!

I know you're probably sick and tired of having people whining to you about cellulite issues and such. Nevertheless, I was wondering whether anyone could simply just spend a few minutes to read over this and maybe give me some advice.

I'm 18 and have a serious cellulite problem. It doesn't necessarily run in my family because my mother barely has any and my sisters don't either. In the past 7 months I have been obsessively attempting to change my fitness pattern and eating habits. I was 54-ish kg when I started and I'm 164.5cm tall. I'm not coming to you to whine that I'm fat or something, because that would be ignorance. I know I'm not, because to tell you the truth after 7 months of intense work out and a healthy diet, I know I'm not fat. And hopefully never was. Undecided

However, I'm honestly starting to get horribly frustrated with my cellulite issue. I'm now 52kg and although my cellulite problem has reduced significantly in the last few weeks (Imagine that!! Only after a good 7 months did I notice some obvious results!), however there is still a lot. Now I'm just wondering whether it'll ever go away (I know for a fact that I can try as hard as I may and it'll never go away. I've read enough accounts that suggest 90% of the women population has cellulite.), because at this stage, although some of it has gone, I still have more cellulite than both my sisters put together. Maybe that's exaggerating, but I'll just stick with that description. Both my sisters, by the way, are older than me, which frustrates me even more.

Anyway, just for those of you who are wondering what my exercise and eating patterns are and what I've done besides to get rid of my cellulite, here's a tedious list:

  • Cardio exercise (from vigorous cycling to jogging/walking) up to 5-6 times. If its cycling it's a interval routine which lasts for about 25 minutes - 5 minutes warmup, 60 seconds vigorous cycling, 90 seconds recovery, 60 seconds vigorous cycling, 90 seconds recovery, etc. This pattern is sed to be excellent to burn fat, and I have seen tremendous improvements in the last few weeks since I've adopted this routine. But good is never enough (I hate being stubborn). As for walking (which I go either once or twice a week depending on many factors), I got for about an hour and a half, during which I jogg, sprint and leisure walk (almost a similar routine to that of my cycling routine).
  • Besides the cardio exercise I do 45 minutes of floor exercises. A bunch of exercises I found on youtube that help to tone your butt and thigh muscles. I also do sit ups and a combination of other tummy exercises that have helped me tone that area of my body as well. The butt exercises I have adopted 7 months ago, and I've been doing them ever since, however (although there is a slight change, and I'm starting to wonder how BAD my bum must have been those 7 months ago), I'm still not happy. I've heard that weight training does miracles for that area of your body, but I don't exactly have any access to any of these materials.
  • I used to be a HUGE fan of chocolate and sweets (so much that I used to get food poisoning for overeating), so I guess I can say: SUCKS on me. It's my fault in the first place that I have so much cellulite, but I'd like to fix my mistakes. I have hardly touched chocolate in the past year (maybe once a month or even less) and sweets for even LONGER. I've become strict with the food that I eat: loads of fresh vegetables, raw fruit (especially apples and oranges), a limited amount of carbs a day (so I hope - I don't actually keep a strict count of how much I eat everyday). Let's just say I've reduced the amount I eat by a FAIR bit. I'm not looking to lose weight, just maintain it, burn fat and build up on muscle.
  • I know water is a crucial part of anyone's diet. In the past I never used to drink much water. I know it's insane, but I used to get by with less than 500ml a day. A miracle I'm still alive? Tongue out Yup, I have no idea  how that happened. But it's been 7 months since I've been like that and now my water intake is (without doubt) over 3litres a day (minumum).
  • Besides these things I've taken to drinking water with lemon (said to get rid of the harmful toxins in your body, i.e cellulite), consuming a healthy amount of fibre every day and using a special brush to boost my circulation in my thighs and bum. I massage my bum for more than 5 minutes a day to boost my circulation.
  • I've also attempted to use several different brands that apparently reduce cellulite, but I've had my share of experience and can honestly say that without the things I've listed above, there isn't bound to be much change, if any at all. And besides, I'm confident that it was not the cream that did any change to the amount of cellulite I have.

I think that's about it. I'm just frustrated I don't see much change in the cellulite problem. Most of my exercises are aimed at my lower body, so why isn't it helping? Is there something that I'm missing out on? And if so, what is it?

I'd really appreciate some feed back on this topic, if anyone is willing to give me any. It would personally probably cool down my nerves and get my head straight again, because I'm honestly fed up with trying so hard and having such little results.

Thank you very much for reading and in advance: thank you for the feedback.

I really hate that so many women put themselves through it. I hate it how media makes cellulite some kind of a desease and a horrible flaw. Just think: would you hate your cellulite if you have never hear that it's "bad" and "unattrective"? As you said - 90% of women have it. IT IS NATURAL! There is nothing you can do about it, except learning to love your body even with it. That's pretty much it.

I agree fully! Cellulite is natural, and even skinny models like Kate Moss gets cellulite! I have however been using a Soap and Glory 'Slimwear' An 'amazing Puff Draining Peptide Balm...

Although i have only been using it for just over a week now, it does actually seem to make a sight different to the 'tightness' of my skin. It smells of mint, and when you rub it on it feels like its cooling the skin. Just thought id mention it as its not too expensive. I got it from Boots...

I think massage is probably the best thing to address any cellulite situation. But you have to keep doing it. It's all about circulation and stimulation of the tissue. So I hear.

Hm... a person out of interest. Do any of you even have cellulite?? Seems to me like most people either don't have it or simply just don't care. And if it's the latter, I honestly admire you. If it's the first then I simply envy you. Tongue out

Oh and lottie_o, is this product only avaible in the US? I'm all the way in Asia, so we probably only have a limited amount of things that we can get from America.

And, myteasgonecold, I know what you're saying. Honestly, I do. Cellulite is normal, and I know that, but I also know that the amount I have can be decreased by a significant amount. I can compare myself with other people, and I know it's normal to an extent, but not like this. It doesn't hurt to keep trying, right?

Since you've been doing research, you probably already know that cellulite is not caused by eating sweets, and is not dependent on your weight or BMI or anything of the sort :)

My mom is a massage therapist and swears that fascia (skin) release massage got rid of a ton of her cellulite - can't tell you from personal experience, I'm waiting until I'm in better shape to test her theory!  Basically, the layers of your skin get stuck together, and this massage works to separate the layers so they lay uniformly flat.  It's a fairly painful process, and if you get it done, make sure you drink a TON of water.  Your circulation rubbing is better than nothing but won't get the same results, I don't think.  I believe you can do fascia release on your own, but like I said, it's painful...so you may want to find someone to do it for you.

This and other similar mechanical methods (the very expensive kind) are supposed to be lasting, but I would be they're not permanent especially if your weight fluctuates afterward.

Hm, could you please let me know how this type of massage works then?

Well...I don't really know how this type of massage works as I am not a massage therapist...all I really know is what I said above.  The skin layers are stuck together, causing cellulite; fascia release works to un-stick the layers of skin.  Do you have a more specific question?  I can try to get more details, but right now that's all I've got.

There are tons of ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite, as we've all seemed to agree it doesn't ever go away completely.  One thing I would suggest, that I don't think has been mentioned yet, is the possibility of getting a tan.  Cellulite always seems, in my experience, to be less noticeable on darker skin tones.  A little bronzer or self tanner, or heck, even a real tan, might help with the appearance.

I don't personally have any experances to share about cellulite. I'm apparently in the minority on this one, and don't have any to my knowledge.  But don't get me started on stretch marks!  I have more than my share of those for being 22 and never having been pregnant.

First of all, I've attempted tannning as well. Thing is, I don't tan very easily, so it takes forever for me to get the colour that I would like. Then, secondly, although it does sort of reduce the appearance of cellulite, it seems to deepen them. I can't really explain it, except that tanning does not seem to be the alternative for me here.

Another question for whoever can answer this; is there a reason why the amount of cellulite I do have seems to fluctuate? In the morning there is some, later during the day; hardly any and in the evening (after a vigorous round of exercise and massage) there seems to be three times the amount??
