cellulite =/

Quote  |  Reply

Well, I'm going to Jamaica with some friends in less than a week. I had planned on losing some weight but unfortunately, that didn't happen. I'm 5'6. 135lbs. I'm not fat, I know. But I had wanted to lose about 10lbs. Now, the vacation is right around the corner and all I can say is that I'm not going to feel comfortable in a bathing suit. I'm going to be, like always, wearing shorts. I'm 18-years-old, everyone says I look great.. but why don't I feel great? And in the past year, I've developed a good amount of cellulite on my thighs and butt..and I hate it. I can't stand it at all. I moderately excercise, I don't overdo it, but I'm not a couch patato either. I'm not looking to loose a whole bunch of weight. .But I just want to feel better about myself. .

I know I'm definently not going to lose this by the time I go to Jamaice (5 days lol) but I want to lose at least 10-15lbs. And I want the cellulite to decrease! I know it probably won't completely go away..but ya know. Am I the only 18-year-old girl with cellulite? Sometimes it feels that way. And how do I make it go away? I've been doing all sorts of excercises. Squats, lunges, leg lifts, etc...but nothing seems to help. I even got a cream/lotion for it (Nivea Goodbye Cellulite) but it's not getting any better.

Someone have tips for this?

Well, I don't have any tips for you....because I don't really know if there is any way to rid ourselves of cellulite. But, I wanted to tell you that I have a 16 year old sister, who is very slim.....and she has cellulite on the backs of her legs right under her butt. Frustrating, I am sure. So, nope...you aren't alone.

I think losing fat through weight loss will help, and the toning exercises you are doing should help too.

Well, i dont have any tips sorry...but i read a trashy magazine the other day that had pictures of mischa barton in a bathing suit - with cellulite! Shes 22 and tiny, so dont worry about it, most girls have this problem! Even the famous ones.

Just try to forget about it and have a great holiday! Im so jealous, it was only 53 degrees F (12 C) where I am today, so you had better enjoy yourself for me!!!

get your legs tanned (i do & im pretty brown as it is) and make sure they are well moisturized and have a shine on them. believe me it helps.

Hello,  I hope you read this before you go.  There is something you can do to help.  Go to www.suddenlyslender.com and find a person in your area to do the wrap.  I did one before going to hawaii and it was amazing the difference it made, I lost about 11.5 inches all over my body and my cellulite was nearly gone!  I have it in the same areas and is it annoying or what!  Anyways, read about this wrap - it's a lot different than other wraps, if you eat well and exercise afterwards the results will last.  I had mine almost 2 months ago and my legs and butt still look good.  Good Luck!

Katie, that's so amazing! So you only did it once and it worked? Is it super expensive?

I agree with rnjt...tanning and keeping them moisturized is the way to go!  I have serious cellulite on my thighs, and i find that tanning helps A LOT!!!

Nothing is going to work in 5 days....but that wrap that was mentioned by katie4983 sounds amazing!  that's my kind of thing.  I think I'll check into that as well! I'm curious to know if is costs a fortune too...let us know!!!

Have a GREAT time on your vacation to Jamaica!!  We stopped there on our cruise in the beginning of May and I fell in love with the place!  It is so beautiful and the people are wonderful!  (at least the ones we came in contact with)  I know you will have a blast!!!!  And it was HOT, let me tell you!!  Got sunburned, so be careful!!!

It is common for post-pubescent females to display some degree of cellulite. There appears to be a hormonal component to its presentation. It is rarely seen in males.[1] It is seen more commonly in males with androgen-deficient states such as Klinefelter's syndrome, hypogonadism, post-castration states and in those patients receiving estrogen therapy for prostate cancer. The cellulite becomes more severe as the androgen deficiency worsens in these males.  Cellulite is not related to being overweight; average and underweight people also get cellulite.[1]

Causes

One plausible explanation - which also explains why very few men suffer from cellulite - is based on the composition and behavior of women's fat cells and the connective tissue that holds them in place. Very simply, a woman's connective tissue is very inflexible, so as females gain weight their fat cells expand, and tend to bulge upwards towards the surface of the skin, giving the classic orange-peel appearance of cellulite. In men, not only is there generally less fat on the thighs, but also the outer skin is thicker and thus obscures what is happening to any surplus fat below.

The causes are poorly understood, and several changes in metabolism and physiology may cause cellulite or contribute to cellulite. Among these are a disorder of water metabolism, abnormal hyperpolymerization of the connective tissue, and chronic venous insufficiency.[1]

[Hormonal factors

Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen is the most important hormone. It seems to initiate, and aggravate cellulite. Other hormones including insulin, the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin have all been shown to participate in the development of cellulite.[1]

Predisposing factors

Several genetic factors have been shown to be necessary for cellulite to develop. Gender, race, biotype,[3] a hormone receptor allele that determines the receptor number and sensitivity, distribution of subcutaneous fat, and predisposition to circulatory insufficiency have all been shown to contribute to cellulite.[1]

Diet

Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, or too little fiber can all contribute to an increased cellulite.[1]

Increasing protein should help add collagen and build muscle to burn fat and contain fat.

Lifestyle

Smoking, lack of exercise, fatty/starchy foods, and sitting or standing in a single position for long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite. A high stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the catecholamine hormones. [1]

Found this article thought it might be informative to you...

oh no, make sure to do the wrap before the tan or wait a couple of days in between.

& another word of advice, try to take of it while your young because if you don't it gets worse as you get older & harder to control. if i would've done something years ago mine wouldn't be so bad.  & i was on bc for yonks & i know that didn't help.

The wrap cost $100 and it takes a few hours.  You'll smell a little funky when you get out of there but who cares!  They promise that you will lose at least 10 inches in your first session.  A friend of mine did 4 sessions back to back - well she did one a week for a month before her wedding and was able to go from a size 8 wedding dress to a 4!  That's why I got one, I couldn't believe her before and after!  She still looks great now too, she has been able to keep hers up as well.  Megn4, I would definitely do the wrap first as it may effect your tanning.  Good luck.

I think tanned cellulite looks better than pasty white cellulite.
