Cellulite

Quote  |  Reply
Does anyone know anything about this subject?  Have any of you lost a lot of weight and still have cellulite after exercising and eating right?  Does it ever go away?

I have cellulite on the back of my legs and on my booty ;) and I am worried it will never go away no matter how much I exercise or eat right.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!  :)

You're right, it will never go away. There is no "cure" for cellulite. There are all kinds of "miracle" creams and techniques out there for getting rid of it, but they are temporary (IF ANYTHING) at best. DON'T waste your money. Sometimes, when you lose weight the appearance of it improves, but I've seen MANY a slender woman (and men!) with it. MOST people have it, so you are not alone. I have it too, but, oddly enough, it really doesn't bother me. Trust me, nobody cares that you have it -- men, your friends, your family, NOBODY. It's usually hereditary too.

Having a tan does mask it somewhat, but I recommend self-tanners NOT the sun or tanning bed!!!
So that's what I've always thought too but my boyfriend made a comment to me saying that body builders don't have cellulite - have you ever seen someone who works out hard with cellulite?

I dunno - maybe they just don't show THAT part of their body off?

He says that the fat cells would disappear after you ate healthy and worked out hard.

???
I have exactly the same issue.  What helped the most was when I was lifting a lot of weights, doing very heavy squats and lunges, so that I really built up my glutes and hamstrings.  Then you could barely notice it ... but it's come right back since I stopped.  Don't worry too much about it, even Tyra has a dimpled booty.  ;-)
I once saw a tabloid magazine with a picture of Paris Hilton with cellulite on her butt and the headline read that even the skinny girls can't escape from cellulite! lol~ so yea most ppl do have it.
i use to have a lil cellulie on my thighs that was like 4 yrs ago and now my legs are extremely muscular so i disagree with the cellulite being permanent
I believe your boyfriend is wrong. Has he ever stood BEHIND a body builder to see? lol I'm telling you, you cannot get rid of cellulite. Body builders use tanners and grease and pose their bodies JUST RIGHT so that you can't see that they have cellulite and so that you ONLY see what THEY want you to see! ... Or maybe the one or two that he has seen just didn't have it. There are a FEW people that don't have it. The Victoria's Secret models have it for sure, as do super models -- you know, everybody. That's why for their shows they use tanner and glittery lotions and all that stuff -- to create an ILLUSION.

It's too bad your boyfriend didn't say "Cellulite?! WHAT on Earth are you worried about THAT for???!!!" :) If he's the expert on cellulite, he ought to contact the National News cause I'm sure they would like to hear about it. haha When they do come up with a "cure" that is where you'll hear about it. :)

I would say that it probably wasn't really cellulite then Ruberta. The appearance of mine has lessened too when I'm in terrific shape as well, but it's still there.
I'm not sure how true this is, but I've read cellulite is just a bunch of fat cells with no muscle to rest on, and when it's all bunched up, it creates a dimpling effect. Therefore, building muscle mass instead of fat will give the dimpled fat more area to lie on, flattening it out and reducing the dimpling, and the cellulite.

I'm not quite to the point where I can try it out yet, but I know lots of really muscular (not body builder muscle, just lean muscle) girls who don't have noticeable cellulite.

I think the skinny girls who have cellulite are the girls who are blessed with high metabolisms, but don't have a lot of muscle.
Bodybuilders often go to extremely unhealthy lengths to reduce their body fat %age and will dehydrate themselves to reduce the bulk of subcutaneous fat.  If they have any cellulite, the fat cells are probably so shrunken that you can't see it.
The more I work-out, the less I see it. Overall, I agree with anyone above who said there is little than can be done. You can shrink your fat cells, but unless you get lipo, you can't make then go away.
Cellulite has little to do with being big or small. There is an article in this month's Allure about people who are "skinny-fat" (skinny, but with a very high body fat percentage) and the author described a runway model who was stick thin, but "had cellulite on the back of her legs from her knee to her butt."
I think most people have it. Keep yourself active and hydrated and try not to think too much about it.
When I was thin, I had cellulite but it wasn't very noticeable to anyone besides me. Now that I am bigger, my entire butt and the back of my thighs is embarrassingly covered in it. I can't imagine how it could stay this bad when I lose weight again. I don't expect it to go away at all, but I know what I looked like before and I know that it will decrease as I get in better shape. Drinking lots and lots and LOTS of water can't hurt, either.
I have noticed that my cellulite (the little I had) is gradually going down.
i completely disagree with alayney sorry, not to be mean. but i  had cellulite and once i started losing and toning i began to lose the cellulite. there is hope!!
Some people have cellulite and some people don't, no matter whether they're skinny or fat.  Have you ever seen Mischa Barton's thighs?  She's very skinny, but still has it.

To the best of my knowledge, cellulite looks the way it does because of the way fat is stored, like whitneyswedlow said.  Since it's fat, if you lose weight, then the cellulite should improve in its appearance if you're losing in that area.  Serious bodybuilders usually have very low body fat percentages, so they probably would not have very much cellulite (but ask your boyfriend if he would really like you to look like Ms. Universe... probably not! ;))

I did have some cellulite in the rear/thigh area, but once I started working out and lost a little weight it went away.  I did a lot of toning exercises (Bar Method) and that helped a lot :)
Cellulite is fat.  Lumpy fat, sure, but fat nonethe less.  Cellulite spots may be the last spots to go, but if you lose the fat, you'll lose the fat, whether it's lumpy or not.  So don't give up hope!
I researched this before.....cellulite can go away...technically no

but.....

If you have close to 0% body fat on a certain area meaning you have built a lot of muscle like those of you who said it went away with some heavy lifting and came back when you stopped. Since there is no fat layer the cellulite will be invisible...as soon as you stop and your muscle decreases or your body stores more fat there the pocket will start to fill in again....

And like the others said....mostly everyone has it...use some self tanner and do some squats I'm sure most people won't even notice :)

everyone has cellulite... even scarlett johanson has cellulite... I KNOW SHOCKING!!!

Their was a picture of her at some reebok thing and she had a mini dress on with amazing amount of cellulite on her thighs..

SO, i say dont worry about it...

BUT, i agree with the people who say that working out does help REDUCE it!!

When i was working out and doing a lot of running and weights, my cellulite completely disappeared but now that i dont do weights anymore, it hasnt come back full fledged but their are some dimples that have returned!!!
i know this post was not intended to be about scarlett, but i had to piont out that she is not much on the skinny side, shes one of the few celebrities that is at an ideal weight... why do you find it  suprising she has cellulite.... besides big people(not intended to be an insult) can have absolutely no cellulite... it just depends on genes
well, I lost about 30 lbs over the last year or two (dieting provoked by spotting cellulite when I was sitting in the ladies. lol) and now have no cellulite. I think exercise is a real help as well as eating. I think you need the two. After all cellulite is just fat right?
To get rid of cellulite you have to drink less caffine and drink more water.
Caffine causes cellulite.
Kids, if there was a universal cure for cellulite, we'd all be doing it!!!

Instead there are many ways you have to tackle it, because it's caused by so many different things. It can be a result of lack of exercise, particularly to the extent that the body cannot illiminate toxins, burn fats and stimulate cell growth when the circulation is not stimulated to it's maximum. It's also caused by aging and hormones or lack of certain hormones and mineral deficiencies and genes.

The short answer:

Maintain a balanced and varied diet, lots of antioxidants, switch dairy to soya, exercise as hard as your body will allow and keep it up, moisturise and exfoliate (your skin needs attention!) and if you can, take suppliements like glucosamine, which helps build and strengthen body tissue and take collagen, which builds/strengthens connective tissues and increases your skin's elasticity.

The long, techie answer:

'Cellulite' is not the layer of standard body fat that lies next to the muscle groups (and the only fat that can be removed by surgery). It is the layer of subcutaneous fat just underneath the skin.

Age, loss of the hormone Oestrogen, sun damage, dehydration and bad circulation all cause the skin's cells to develop holes and leak internally.

This means they can no longer form a hard and tight barrier between the skin's surface and the layers of subcutaneous fat beneath. Skin loses elasticity and the layers beneath penetrate that wall of cells and roam free on the tops of your thighs, upper arms and buttocks.

The lumps are the next stage and are caused by the fat cells breaking through the layer of 'leaky' cells and sitting just under the skin - the body's natural job in this area is to cover everything in it's path with a fibrous 'ropey net'.  In a perfectly functioning body, these fibers are soft and flexible and their job is to hold everything in, nice and tight - but if your circulation is poor or you are deficient in collagen and elastin (we all are as we get older), the fibre becomes hard and inflexible and bunches up the fat cells into very hard balls.

This is where exfoliation (to encourage new, strong cell growth and circulation), moisturisation (to soften skin and increase elasticity) and collagen/glucosamine supplements (to build and strenghten body tissues and cell walls) and increasing your amino acid intake (soya, oily fish) are just as important as pounding the treadmill.

Drinking heaps of water will only help flush out your system if your cells don't leak that water out first! If they do, you end up with water retention. Repair the holes in your cells first (and this takes only a few weeks to make a difference) and all that water you are drinking will be flushed through properly, rather than sitting where you least want it.

Dont forget to take the trash out - Antioxidants like green tea and grapefruit juice will flush out all the rubbish from any fat cells you successfully break down with diet and exercise.

Caffeine isn't all bad - it stimulates circulation and may help boost cell metabolism. Why do you think the top 10 skin care products in the world contain caffeine?
