Cellulite = water retention?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey guys,

 Im recovery from an eating disorder, Ive upped my cals from 400 a day to between 1200 - 1400 a day, and am now working on getting to 16 - 1700 a day. My stats are: 17, f, 5'2, 52 kg (up from 44)

As soon as I upped my calories, I got water retention, which was what I expected, but I expected it around my stomach. But Ive noticed my arms ballooning up too, and also (in the space of 24 hours) I got massive amounts of cellulite around my thighs.

Could the cellulite be water retention? And will it go away if I keep upping my cals and drinking my water? Im really starting to get scared since Im not used to waking up to massive amounts of cellulite and having my thighs touch (which I know is a normal, good thing, but not overnight! I expected things to be more gradual)

I guess Im just looking for a little reassurance, since Im kind of freaking out, I get so self concious about my thighs and arms. If I continue eating, will things get better? Will all the cellulite go away?

Thanks for any advice, its greatly needed! Oh, and sorry if this makes no sense, its past midnight and Im a tad sleepy.

I don't know about cellulite but I just finished my tom and I lost a solid inch off of my thighs, so yeah, the increased size can definately be water weight and as every woman has experienced, water weight can just jump on in a day or so.  Dunno about long term effects but it's certainately not fat over night.

I am going through the same thing. This is our body holding onto extra water and stuff incase we decide to starve it again. Once you get your metabolism up....I hear that it goes away. Don't focus on every inch of your body because changes are happening during this process. I would just worry about making sure that you do continue to up the cals so that you are not falling back in any way. Keep on going girl...you are strong and soo worth it!

im in a similar situation...i'm 5'2" and almost 48 kg now...i have been in recovery for 7 weeks and gained about 15 lbs within the first week. what i hate the most is my legs...it does look like cellulite and its horrible...but with mine it kind of shifts if you know what i mean so it isnt 'solid' weight/fat (i hope at least). i have been eating 1200 cals a day and just upped it to 1400 cals.

if mine gets better ill be sure to let you know..i have been doing yoga to help tone and firm as i heal and also to help with circulation. within a week of doing yoga my belly is a LOT flatter so i definitely recommend it. i believe it helps with digestion (which is why it was bloated to begin with along with water retention) it can also help you deal with all the changes...

i know its hard. and its so depressing getting bigger like that-not toned healthy muscles but what 'appears' to be fat and cellulite. if you need any support let me know...:) good luck!

good news.. IT GETS BETTER! seriously.. like positivelinny said.. it's our bodies holding on to everything it can. keep pushing through it! in order to get out of the "rut" you HAVE to up your calories and make sure your body knows it's no longer starving. then, you can find your maintenance level and it will even out! i speak from EXPERIENCE.. trust me!

take care! =)
Yes I think it is temporary! For the first week it looked [and felt] as though I'd wake up every morning feeling bigger than the day before, and I was all bloated and gross, but Its mostly stopped, and doesn't look so ridiculous any more! Its been about 3 weeks I think in total. I feel better! =D
