it's probably the carbs/sugar. how about this: back away and drink some water. go for a run. clean your house. make yourself busy and step away from the box!
(ps. i've done the same thing, but i end up eating 1/2 the box) :(
good luck!

If you discover a magic cure..please inform me of it. I have eaten at least 4-5 cups of high-calories (but healthy!) Raisin Bran so far today..and I'm (ashamedly) thinking about going for another bowl...
Really the only thing I can think of that ever helps this binge, is simply leaving the house. Just leave the cereal behind...don't look at it...heck, throw it out or make someone else eat it!

duct tape the box shut, and put it in a high and hard to reach place, it will make you work hard and acutally think before you grab another bowl.
however, binges arnt terrible if you didnt eat much before hand, a few bowls of rasin bran isnt the end of the world, now if you ate the entire lasnana or something, then i would take notice.
lol, if your body is craving all-bran then your probably just very hungry. your body has hunger, and then it has cravings. however somtimes people should listen to both.

Usually I don't have a problem with this, but I bought a new amazing granola cereal a couple of days ago, and I can't keep my hands out of the box sometimes. :/

It's worth getting a box, if you have any self-control. :P

Oh, man. It is so weird but BOTH my sister and I find cereal to be a HUGE binge trigger food. I am not so crazy about super sugary ones, but if there is All Bran, Raisin Bran, Bran Flakes, or any kind of granola cereal (yummmmm) or something chocolate-y then I just freak out and eat the whole box. My sister is exactly the same. It is so strange because we didn't overeat it as kids of anything, and nor were we denied. But I'd take a good bowl of cereal over a chocolate bar almost any day.
I was talking to a friend recently who made me feel better. She said "Why is it that in the morning, one bowl of cereal is fine, but in the afternoon no less than 3 or 4 bowls will do??" I ask myself this same question ;)
I have found that only two things helpe me: One is that I do not buy myself cereal, ever. It makes me sad but otherwise I will go crazy and feel bad about eating so much. My husband buys some for himself, but I rarely have any. I remind myself that it is his, not mine, and if I reeeeally want cereal, I make myself a bowl of porridge/oatmeal topped with fresh fruit and eat that instead. it doesn't have the 'crunch' of cereal, so isn't as satisfying in that sense, but it is carbs with milk and it fills me up quickly, so whether I am hungry or just craving it's a good way to go about damage control.

cereal is my guilty pleasure...i have five boxes working (meaning- opened and half eaten) on the shelf right now!!! Love that shreaded wheat (large biscuits)
I count the calories and measure with a measuring cup what is a proper portion, eat that and then wash my dish and put it away (before I drink the sweetened milk in the bowl).

Throw it in the trash right now. Get all those trigger foods out of the house.
Haha. Funny topic! Kinda... Depressing though.
Yes, branflakes are my HorribleWonderfulTroublesomeTerrible trigger food. >.<
You are not alone. | could eat boxfuls plain.

a good way to not over eat cereal is to not put the box near you, simply put it away after you eat one bowl, give your self time, make sure you drink the milk.
i usually combine my cereal with something so i dont just crave the carbs and over eat it.
ps: i could eat fifteen boxs of any "cluster" or sweet "crunch" cereal.

Dart, |'ve read soooo many tips to not binge on things like cereal...
And, see, | do put the box away. But | really don't mind at all getting
back up to get more. |'m just bouncy like that. ^.^
oh.. well then , only advise i would have for you is to throw the box out the window, lol... heh
ummm, well then maybe you could eat small bowls of it, like you would set out to eat 1 cup of it..... so then you should eat 4 small bowls of it, in theory it might trick your mind into thinking its more?
i dunno, just one tip.

Yeah! |'ve actually done that before, lol. | do that with almost all my food, and end up eating less. (=
usuauly when i eat a small bowl of cereal with something , like fruit or some form of protien, i dont really want another bowl. it kinda just feels like a full meal.
but then agian, im more of a hot ceareal kind of guy.. its pretty dang hard to binge on stove top oatmeal, heh, takes a bit of effort to prepare. but the kind i make is great.

Yeah, it is alot different if you actually have to cook something and
take time to prepare it before you eat it. 0atmeal is the best >.<
a nice big bowl of oatmeal with strawberry jam, milk and strawberrys, put on in that order.. makes the perfect breakfast.
but back to cereal, i always find it hard to be truly satisfied with cold cereal alone, i never found it filling enough, no matter how much protien or fiber they cramed into it. thats why its key to eat something with the cereal.

Hrm. Really good idea. |'ll try having fruit or something with it next time. (=
I could never get by with just eating cereal for breakfast. It's certainly not enough. I always have:
- 1 serving of high fiber cereal
- 1/2 cup skim milk
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 3/4 cup mixed berries (for yogurt)
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one!
I swear, it's like everything blacks out and when I come to I'm covered in cereal crumbs and drool - there's empty boxes rolling about like tumbleweeds. It's pretty bad.
When that starts happening, I just stop buying cereal for a while.
Lately I've just snacked on Honey nut cheerios to no end. Just the ceral dry with no milk.
I think the cereal trigger for me anyway comes from an imbalance in the diet. The carbs tend to trigger cravings for more carbs. I have this problem with cereals and with oatmeal :) If I had only that I would eat it all day.
I put my cereal in a tiny coffee cup with skim milk. I allow that to be my portion of cereal and I only eat it if I have something else with it like a piece of cheese or some scrambled eggbeaters. The balance of protein with it seems to help.
With the good cereals (whole grain) like all-bran or whole grain oats it would be a shame to get rid of them completely unless you absolutely have to. Just try to modify how you eat them and don't eat them as snacks or by themselves
