Cereal binging!

Quote  |  Reply
I am totally frustrated at my lack of will power with cereal. I have been eating Kashi Cinnamon Harvest and Go Lean! Crunch like a mad woman. When I  went to the grocery, I said I wasn't going to buy more cereal.... and I bought FIVE (!) boxes. One bowl always turns into two.

Does anyone else have this problem?!  What other foods are binge triggering foods for you?   I actually stress at trying to convince myself I don't WANT to eat a bowl of cereal! GRRR!

blaaaaaaaaraaahg. thats what i think of cereal. cereal with its crispy crunchy sweet and milky deliciousness....i hate the stuff. because i love it so freaking much. ive eaten boxes in less than an hour, i jsut cant have cold cereal in the house anymore. i literally cant. oatmeal is it for me, it takes a while to prepare and its more satisfying or something . i wish i had the willpower required for cereal. i feel your pain someangeldmb, i feel your pain.
Yeah, if you remotely have a cereal addiction don't buy Puffins. I demolished the best part of a box tonight, no joke.

I'm the same way with Yogurt Burst Cheerios, oyyyyyyy!  The box calls my name from anywhere in the house!  So I'll put a handful in a bowl (dry) and munch on them while I'm reading a book, finish that then get 'just one more' handful, then another, eeeeeeeee!  Pretty soon I'm halfway through the box!

Curse you Yogurt Burst Cheerios Yell !

I totally do the same thing. Well, I haven't binged in a while (since April), but during the school year instead of having the bad caf meals I would have cereal instead.  But since it was a meal, I could somehow justify having three bowls......

In my defence, it was Special K with Red Berries which isn't terrible for you and I used skim milk too! :|

Cereal is perfect any time...breakfast..snack...dinner...before bed....mmmm!!

omg i absolutely absolutely understand.

i hate cereal because i love it too much

i've also finished a box of cereal (600g) in one day on top of regular meals. its sooo horribleeeee... horribly delicious and addictive.

lately, ive been doing 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup yogurt, with cereal and flax. The yogurt makes it thicker!! Very delicious.

i have yet to try kashi go lean crunch... i've heard soo many good things about it though. (& do i really need MORE addictions!!) also, it seems very very high in cals!!

bippysmom, i do the exact same thing with handfuls of cereal.
Thankfully, cereal is not a binge food for me.
Buying lots of cereal at a time is fine, since it does keep for a while. Especially if you got it on sale, you shouldn't feel guilty at all!

When you open a new box of cereal, immediately portion the entire box into the suggested portion (usually 3/4 or 1 cup) into separate baggies. Then store as usual. This way you can only take a bag at a time, and only allow yourself one. It's much easier to refrain from binging when you have your food preportioned. :)

Hi my name is dbackerfan and I am addicted to HOney Nut Cheerios.

I eat them out of the box at night before bed.  I've measured them out sometimes and still go back for more after 3 or more cups.  I've even fallen asleep while eating the darn things and woken up to find HNCheerios all over the couch my pjs and the floor probably if the dog hadn't eaten them LOL

OMG! CORN POPS ARE SINFULLY DELICIOUS!

I don't buy it anymore. :(

the real problem with cereal "addiction" is the sugar and starchy part of it.... I had the same problem some time ago, specially when you go on diet and try to avoid carbs and sugar. Cereal, that supposed to be "healthy breakfast", get us totally confused. Something that worked for me was buying cereal with less sugar on it, such as bran flakes or all-bran, still there is some hidden sugar but not as much as the other one. I only have it in the morning and I add some walnuts (just a little) and have some protein on a side, such as egg whites or protein powder. The combination of protein, fat (from walnuts) and cereal  with low fat milk(carbs),make you feel really satisfied.

I heard from many nutrionist that when we try to limit or eliminate an specific group of food (such as carbs, fat or protein) in each meal, we will feel unsatisfied and hugry very soon, and i think they are right

omg I know what you mean about the puffins! now THOSE are addictive! luckily I've broke my addiction and now buy a box once every two weeks. If I finish them, I can't buy more, that's that. I've also found a love for Product 19, I suggest everyone check it out!
I second the love for Golden Grahams and Honey Nut Cheerios.
After reading all these posts, its strange Im not alone on this.  I used to purposely settle for not favorite cereals so it wouldnt be gone in two days.

When my daughters school did state testing, they sent letters saying avoid cereal breakfast (!!) and include more protein so children could stay alert throughout the day,  They'd reference studies to support this as well.

I think a huge part of it is the carb thing.  Its not just just feeling full thing but my body reacts in the most happy way to the ingesting of carbs.  I had to get off them with southbeach just to control my carb obsession.  Granted you can eat healthy carbs on southbeach but Im still limiting since its such a relief to have a gotten rid of my carb cravings.
I remember last year i became addicted  to strawberry frosted mini wheats cereal.... wow i used to eat so much of it the carbs in there are awful i think 42g per serving and its LOADED with sugar.. i gained 10 lbs i used to it ALLL THE TIME i was addicted .. then i stopped
O...M...G. Cookie Crisp. Lucky I can only get it when I go to the States.
haha its nice to know others have the same prob as me haha :) i loveeeeeee cereal. my fav right now is total whole wheat. its so good and has tons of fiber so its filling :) but i still wanna eat more after one bowl. my fav are total, kix, honey bunches of oats and the rice krispy treats cereal.  also the new crunch cheerios is awesome. very addicting. i love the little nuts in there :) hey at least we all not all binging on somethingl like twinkies or ho ho's right everyone ??? :)  cereal really is good for u.
What?!?!? no one has mentioned cinnamon toast crunch? I love it - good in  milk like all cerials but I really like eating this one dry :)

I also love eating coco crispies or coco pebbles (basically the same thing) and fruity pebbles plain, meaning w.o milk.

I will second the love of rice crispie treats cerial...

I also love eating special K (product 19 is good too)....mmm
Ah... I should also mention that I love buying a box of lucky charms and eating all the marshmallows out....mmm. So much better than normal marshmallows....I try taking normal manrshmallows and letting them sit in a tupperware on the counter without a lid to get stale so that they will taste like lucky charms marshmallows (and have their texture)...but it doesn't work.....nothing is the same as the lovely lucky charms marshmallows :)
i can totally relate. i love cereal. once i start, it is so hard for me to stop. i just keep eating and eating. that's why i try to stay far away from it, but since i still live with family, it's there for the rest of them and i usually wind up caving and binging on it. never have eaten a whole box in one day, but i know i could.
