I love cereal and I need a good cereal to eat... I am looking for something that is low in cals and has a serving size of 1 cup. Any suggestions??
Well, it's not low in calories, but I suggest Kashi. Kashi isn't low in calories, but it's high in fiber and high in protein and will actually keep you full longer. I suggest it's one of the better cereals out there. :)
multigrain cheerios have all the vitamins you need for the day and is 110 calories per serving.
Rice Krispies, 'cause they talk to you. Though I'm sure someone will debate me on their nutrition contribution, but still, how can you resist cereal that talks to you?
Otherwise, I think Special K (DON'T DO THE DIET, IT'S DUMB) is tastey, as well as shredded wheat cereals.
Mmm.. Cheerios...

Plain enriched bran flakes are my favorite. They have 100% DV of 11 essential vitamins and minerals in every serving, plus they're packed with fiber and only have 1/2 gram of fat. I eat them with a little splenda and skim milk, and never get tired of it.
Puffins are 1 cup for 120 calories and is so delicious. But if you are a cereal addict avoid them like the plague. They are seriously munchable.
Fiber One I think is also 120 calories for a cup and is a lot less addicting.
Both are high fiber (Fiber One being significantly higher than Puffins)

Peanut Butter puffins.. mmmmm. and yeah, so addicting, so watch out ;)
rice krispies are pretty satisfying too. Not exactly the healthiest choice, but the doctor did recommend them to me after my becoming anemic. They contain something like 45% of your recommended daily allowance of iron [...? I may be wrong].
kellogg's all-bran is pretty awesome too, and in my opinion tastes WAY better than Fiber One [though contains like 1 gram less of fiber or something like that].
Fruity Cheerios are pretty good for not a whole lot of sugar, and so are Life and Kix.
the lowest-cal cereal I've had is Kamut puffs.. like Golden Crisp but without all the sugar. Tastes pretty good with vanilla soy milk or some cocoa or sugar. 50 cals a cup!
for overall health value, though, I'd recommend uuhhh.. oh Optimum Slim. it's high in protein and fiber [though a bit high in cals--190 per cup].

i just bought the kashi cereal today. i'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow morning. i hope it's delicious.
i really like all bran, but that's just me.
I went to Trader Joes and selected four different types of high-fiber, low fat cereal ... and I switch off. I also ordered some low-carb cereal online from Amazon.com .... this way I have some variety. Some mornings, depending on what else I am having, I want fewer carbs in my cereal (I am an insulin-dependent diabetic), other mornings, I will eat the lower-calorie, high-fiber stuff.
The "best" cereal for you is one that you LIKE, and that will fit in with the rest of your diet. Some people like quantity, some people like taste, some people want protein. Just be sure and watch the portion sizes (they really differ) ... and be sure and measure your milk and your cereal.
(I use skim milk)

If I am looking for something low in calories, I eat puffed wheat or puffed rice. In my Manhattan neighborhood (where most cereals are around $5/box), I can get a bag of puffed wheat or rice for less than $2. One cup is only 60 calories, and there is only one ingredient.
i love be well berry (its stop & shop) its low in cals, no fat, and no HFCS
UPDATE!
I just had some All-Bran sprinkled with cinnamon and splenda, with light silk.
heavenly.
All-Bran is really tasty and healthy, it's also one of the few low glycemic index cereals, you will feel full for a while after eating it. Wow, cinnamon and splenda on it would amazing, thanks for sharing that! Also the Kashi Go Lean Crunch is great, as was mentioned previously, especially the honey almond flax. It's such a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is good for the skin and beneficial in many other ways.
i imagine it's been mentioned before, but i think cheerios are great! a warm kind of cereal that you can make is quaker oats (the 1 minute kind) and it's oats that cook quickly, and it's very satisfying with raisins~
In the past, I was hooked on oatmeal with a banana and sometimes raisins.
Now I eat Kashi Go Lean (not the crunch version) every morning with frozen blueberries. I love the way the blueberries get frosty when they mix with the soymilk! Basically of all the cereals I have researched, this cereal gives the best nutritional value for the lowest amount of calories:
- 140 calories (52 g).
- 1 g fat.
- 10 g fiber.
- 13 g protein.
If you have a Trader Joe's nearby you might try "High FIber" (classy name, don't you think?) It is there own brand. 2/3 cup has 70cal. 1g fat. I love it!
OOPS! just checked to be sure (should have done that first) and it is 80c and .5 fat
in 2/3 cup.
Crispix and Corn Flakes.. both give you lots of cereal for low cals..
I agree with the puffed wheat. Actually I love making low-cal "Wheat Krispie" squares with it :]
Special K sustain is good if you want to stay full between breakfast and your next meal. I eat some if I'm not going to have time for a mid morning snack.
