So there seems to be the big debate on cereals lately, and I have a question about healthy cereals.  I don't eat cinnamon toast crunch or cocoa pebbles or anything.

Right now the only two cold cereals in my house are kashi Golean Crunch original and honey almond flax.  The ingredients list on these is still kinda long but not ridonkulous like the sugary cereals.

What do you guys think about these regularly in a diet... a cup of cereal a day or every other day?  I don't buy much processed food really... and I'm making a lot of my meals from scratch.  No frozen meals unless I cooked them myself.

Thanks!

I have kashi go lean and fiber 1 (50/50) in my yogurt every morning.

You might like some brainnnsss sprinkled over yours, though. :)

I do it for the fiber, and there is also protein in it.

I would LOVE to nom on some cinnamon toast crunch though. *drool*

I am in love with Fiber One original. Serving size is 1/2 cup = 60cals so I go with a cup of fiber one, 3/4 cups of skim milk and I'm full. AND just managed to eat almost my entire daily recommended intake of fiber at breakfast so any fiber after that is a BONUS!  If I have a good cereal fruit I'll add that on top but Fiber One is a little sweet by itself and doesn't really require it.

I'm a cereal fiend! I love it. I love all of them! (Even Bran Buds, remember them?) I eat cereal plain as a snack and have to avoid stuff like Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Suger Pops or Sugar Smacks or Coco Krispies because I lose all self control.

I generally love to have frosted mini wheats around. Good for fiber and easy to snack on, plus my spouse likes them, too. My favorite cereal is Life, though. And I quit eating Cp'n Crunch because it tears up the inside of my mouth. (But I love it.) And after I started watching calories and fat, I stopped eating the granola-type cereal (can't remember the name) but I really loved that, too.

No doubt, I just love me some cereal!

I love cereal.  I have a mix of Nature's Path Smart Bran & Kashi GoLean (original) every morning, mixed with greek yogurt & other things (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, pumpkin puree, apple, you get the idea).  Sometimes I will also add a more "sugary" cereal to the mix like Kashi GoLean crunch, Kashi Honey Sunshine or Honey Nut Cheerios, to add a little sweetness, and depending on what I'm craving.

I love, love, love Nature's Path Pumpkin Seed & Flax granola but, although it SEEMS that it should be healthy, I only have it as a treat: Here's the breakdown for a 1/2 cup serving. Calories 140 Calories from Fat 45 % Daily Value* Total Fat 5.0g 8% Saturated Fat 0.5g 3% Sodium 20mg 1% Total Carbohydrates 21.0g 7% Dietary Fiber 3.0g 12% Sugars 5.0g Protein 3.0g

When I went to a dietician she told me one of the best ways to pick a cold cereal was to compare the fiber vs sugar. You should pick the one with more fiber and less sugar. She wanted me to keep the sugar under 5 grams. I eat Kashi Golean High Protein and High Fiber Cereal, fiber 10g sugar 6g. The other cereal I keep in the cupboard, plain old Cheerios, fiber 3 g, sugar 1g. My grandchildren love the Cheerios for snacks and so do I. She also said it was a really good way to chose a bread. She wanted me to get 30 grams of fiber per day.

I love cereal.  I have it every morning for breakfast.  I recently started putting fruit on top to add some fiber.  I don't do those sugary cereals although I do like some of them, mostly because I also use the fiber/sugar rule.  If there's not enough fiber in the cereal I will not be sated until lunch.  Mostly I eat cheerios, raisin bran and mini wheats.  The Kashi and Fiber One cereals are good but too expensive for me.  I have one and a half to two times the serving size on the box (~1.5 cups).  My favorite cereals are Life and Kix.  I love Kix, but I don't have it often.

Cereal rocks! We all make it work....balance the health with the pleasure.

Like Barefoot said above, Nature's Path Pumpkin Seed granola is wonderful. Once serving with some fruit keeps me full until lunch. Honey Nut Cheerios or plain Cheerios are great for breakfast or a snack as well. I don't like soupy cereal so I don't add milk, but sometimes I'll add some yogurt. I've been checking out Fiber One too.

I was a cereal junkie. My one "bowl" was about 4 servings. LOVED LOVED LOVED Honey Bunches of Oat with Peaches, O's, Golden Crisp. Ate it every morning for years. Until, I became a diabetic. I found that the cereal was causing my blood sugar to go haywire. It is all carbs and really not a significant source  of fiber or nutrition. Once I stopped eating cereal altogether, I got it under control. My search for a viable cereal substitute led me to the Kashi cereals and I found them inedible, might as well just soak the box in milk and eat that. Now I found that some protein, in the shape of Eggbeaters and a good fiber bread is better for me and my diabetes. Granted you gotta do some cooking and not just empty food into a bowl, but it's better for you.
