Cereals
I have a terrible time eating healthy cereals for breakfast. They give me such terrible gas. I work so I have to avoid the cereal. I need to eat something for breakfast that I can take with me to my job. Any suggestions on cereals that will not do that? Any reason why this is happening? Any way to eliminate it and still eat cereal? I also have that problem with granola bars. Help.
could it be the fiber? or the sweeteners maybe.
what about just plain cornflakes?
it seems like you might have a problem with oats. does oatmeal also cause this problem?
why don't you try shredded wheat? or maybe grape nuts. or how about special k, kashi go lean crunch, or even barbara's puffins?
What kind of cereal are you eating? Many people have a wheat allergy. Maybe try gluten free cereal and see if that makes a difference.
I second Kashi GoLEAN Crunch! and Puffins cereals. I eat them frequently and absolutely love them!
It is ANY type of cereal, including oatmeal. I think it is the fiber but not really sure. I will try the Kashi and the Puffins. What is Puffins, I have never heard of it. I have not scanned the cereal aisle in a long time due to this fact. Any other suggestions for breakfast? It has to travel with me so I can eat it once I get to work. I do english muffins and oj most of the time, but, BORING day after day. I do yogurt once in awhile but that also bothers me with gas, unless I buy the Yoplait Whips, which are higher in calories.
Bananas, hard boiled eggs, bagels, turkey on a bagel or English muffin. Any kind of fruit, yogurt.

Puffins are crunchy, lightly sweetened corn pillows made from all-natural ingredients. They come in a a variety of flavours such as original, multigrain, cinnamon, honey rice and the very popular, peanut butter. I have only been able to spot this brand of cereal in my natural food store and not at my local grocery store.
Other suggestions for breakfast in a hurry:
1) A banana with peanut butter, almond butter or other nut butter
2) Peanut butter/tortilla (peanut butter spread on a whole-wheat tortilla with a banana and rolled up)
3) Rice cakes with nut butter and/or jelly
4) Breakfast smoothie or shake (can be thrown into a travel mug if your pressed for time)
even though you rather not go the yogurt route..
5) Yogurt (can be low fat or fat free) mixed/combined with fruit, dried fruit, granola, cereal, trail mix, shredded coconut, etc. You can also make a simple parfait with any of these aswell.
and if you REALLY have no other options..
6) Granola, energy or meal-replacement bars. Maybe some nuts like almonds or walnuts.
Hope some of these helped.
I don't recommend Kashi GOlean crunch..it tastes amazing but is notorious for causing VERY bad gas...I had the same experience with it as well. I second the yogurt suggestiong. If you buy greek yogurt you can really increase your protein intake as well. Trader Joe's has lowfat greek yogurt, honey flavor, that I really enjoy.
Thank you. I will avoid the Kashi, glad you let me know. I may try the whipped yoplait again, it seems to not gas me up. I am trying so hard to eat healthy and my gut keeps sabbotaging me.![]()
