"Certified" Bad Advice

Quote  |  Reply

I thought that after the personal experience that I have recently had I would share this with others trying to lose weight and seeking the help of a personal trainer.

In Nov of 2007 I decided to finally lose some weight after putting on an extra 93.4 lbs over 7 years,

I did what most people do I joined a gym and after a few days hired a personal trainer that was also a certified nutritionist to help me with my weight loss.

The first thing he did was set up a diet plan at the cost of $ 150.00, Knowing nothing about a proper diet I followed this to the letter but was staying hungry and drained all the time.

I also paid for personal training sessions at the cost of $75.00 per hour also not knowing a lot about exercise I worked out with him 6 days a week for an hour each day plus cardio

Again I was staying tired all the time and my body constantly ached If I said that I was tired or my muscles and joints ached he said I was just being lazy.

I finally got the to point where I was so drained and ill that I visited my Physician, when I was weighed I was only 15 pounds less, when talking to her I told her that I couldn’t believe I had not lost more weight because I was working with a “certified nutritionist” and “ certified personal trainer”.

Dr. M was very shocked at my diet on the highest calorie day my certified nutritionist had me consuming only 950 calories per day and on the lowest days I was getting a mere 450.

Along with this diet I was as I said before I was working out doing circuit training an hour a day along with 1.5 hour of cardio per day.

The trainer I had hired had me consuming mostly protein drinks and vitamin pills.

It has taken me quite awhile to get myself straightened out, the gym refuses to do anything about the bad advice being handed out by their trainer/nutritionist and I am stuck with some pretty decent medical bills, from further damage done to an already bad shoulder and heel that he kept pushing extremes on.

The sole purpose of this post is to simply make people more aware that certification doesn’t mean squat if the person certified doesn’t care.

I know that there are some good trainers but please, please, please check your trainer out thoroughly before you commit your time, money and health to them
