Chafing while running
Ok so I love running and usually try to run 3 miles a day on days that I don't have basketball. But now that it's warmer I switched back to my running shorts that I wore last summer from the sweats and such I wear in winter. I gained quite a bit of weight over the winter to bulk up for basketball ( and from my new found love for cookies : ) and now when I run my shorts ride up and my inner thighs chafe like it's their job, sometimes requiring me to end my run early and awkwardly waddle/shuffle my way back home. Sooo my question is does anyone have any special remedy to prevent/ help relieve inner thigh chafing or know of any shorts that don't ride up when running? Anwers would be much appreciated : )
Ugh - same here. I wear pants with no crotch seams made out of a cotton/lycra blend. Soft and no chafing but form fitting. You can throw on a pair of bike shorts under your regular shorts if you don't want your excess accentuated, if ya dig me.
Happens to me in the summer alot. I use talc powder when it gets warm out. My brother-in-law is a big guy and he uses some sort of a lubricant for his inner thighs. He said they would be raw after jogging for a bit. Here is a site that shows some ideas and products to buy:

I might try the lip balm type lubricant this summer.
And like echoroc said, bike shorts under your regular shorts would work. Thats what I did when I was stationed in Mississippi...its crazy humid there.
are you guys running naked or something? Unless I wear pretty short shorts, I don't get any chafing and I am NOT one of those tiny, thin runners. Longer shorts or those cottony spandex things under shorts works for me. I don't like running in just those spandex things because I can only the horror that is watching me running from behind in them
yeah i play volleyball so sometimes i wear spandex under my shorts but sometimes they ride up too when u start to sweat a lot. I'm def. going to try the blister stuff hopefully that'll help because this is super obnoxious. Stupid nike running shorts! haha thanks for all the help
I have the same problem...I don't wear short shorts, mid thigh maybe, and they still creep up. Damn thighs. I refuse to wear shorts anymore when running, instead have opted for knee length or just past the knee capris. They have them in really light weight materials and they're WAY more comfy than having to yank shorts out of my crotch every 10 steps. ![]()
Good luck!
Capri length spandex/lycra. Problem solved.
Question, why are you bulking up for basketball? Shouldnt you work on other things instead of bulking up? Such as, your shot, foot work, conditioning and some jump training? Just wondering.
Say, try checking your underwear for starters. Synthetics will cause some problems when you start to sweat. Furthemore, if they are too tight it will cause problems. Lastly, if you want to treat it when it is present, use gold bond. The best thing for it. Forget about lubricants and lotions. Those will cause those hard boil type pimples on your inner thigh. The ones that just add to the problem. Seriously, get some gold bond and dust up after drying off from a shower. It will resolve the issue while at rest and allow you to start up your running sooner than not treating it or mistreating it. If you got it bad, expect some burning. However, that is normal and means it is working.
I just had this happen to me after a nine mile run not too long ago. I normally wear capris or running knickers but I didn't want to be confined to that in the summer when it's really hot.
I bought some BodyGlide and it works wonders. I bought it online, a friend recommended it to me and I couldn't find it in my area. Apply it to your inner thighs before you run and you should be alright, it kind of forms like a protective layer that helps avoid chafing. You can also use it on other areas like sports bra straps, etc.
Hope that helps!
Vaseline on the skin that rubs. Runners use it all the time. It works.

I second this recommendation. It may feel a little weird at first, but it provides the lubrication to let your thighs glide across one another. It's cheap and effective.

I am a 5 11 post player who used to weigh 145 (now 170) and play against girls 6 2- 6 5 who weigh around 250. I was underweight and now am about 170. I do work on conditioning (hence the chafing while running) and I work out with a sports trainer 3 times a week to work on foot speed and my vertical along with regular basketball practice (for my AAU team) twice a week and tournaments where you play 2-3 games per day Saturday and Sunday. During my school season in the winter, which just just ended, I have games twice a week and practice 5 days a week. Obviously my coordination and conditioning is not a problem, I was simply being plowed over because I was undersized. : )
Um, I run three miles a day too and this has never happened to me before. I can only conclude that it happens to you because you're a bad person.

Can we conclude that the angel wings must grow from your inner thighs, preventing chafing? Oh wait, my logic is circular! ![]()
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
