Games & Challenges

I’ve got about 50 lbs to lose, but I really need to break it up a little. I was thinking about doing a 50 lb challenge, but I didn’t want to shut out losers who have less to lose! So I thought that a 25-to-lose group would be a happy medium. I’m looking to start a support and accountability group whose main goal is to lose 25 pounds by the end of June. That’s about 1.5 lbs a week, which I think is very doable. I’m looking for folks who are losing with healthy diet and exercise, any plan is fine, but no “cabbage soup” fad diet nonsense, no pills, etc. Just healthy lifestyle changes.

Goal: To lose 25 pounds by June 30th.

Motto: Who dares, wins!

Members: Anyone with 25 or more pounds to lose.

Post: Daily if possible. Post goals, daily food and exercise stats, problems, anything related to your weight loss journey. Post tips, articles, stories, anything helpful or motivating. Post recipes and exercise routines too, if you want.

If you’re in, do an introductory post, and here’s mine!

I’m Pook. I’m a 43 year old woman who lives in Louisville KY. I’m 5’ 7”. I started at 230 lbs, and I’m presently 199. My plan is to eat healthy food, lower fat, higher fiber, and daily exercise. I mostly walk, but I also enjoy yoga, water aerobics, weights, bike riding and dancing. A year ago, I got down to 175, but then I got stupid and went back up to 205. I’m back down to 199, and determined to make up lost ground.

Congratulations Roger!!  You're doing great!

Sarah: hiiii!  I'm out here..  somewhere, lol!  How ya doing?

Me:  I'm moving this week, starting yesterday.  Moving two places into one...  got one done so far and one more that we're starting on tomorrow!  Hoping for some SERIOUS calorie blasting and that I don't counter that with some seriously bad fast food..  everyone helping loves pizza but me :(

I'm down one more lb..  glad to have any progress at all.  I'm not trying to make excuses, but this move is what I've been waiting on..  I've felt like the living situation I had before was a major deterrent to my weight-loss success.  I'm absolutely ecstatic to move, unpack, and get my life in order ... and burn some calories during it all!

You guys are the reason I'm holding on at all to any success with my weight.  I am maintaining well and losing slowly, and I'm so happy to at least be there.  We've all been on hiatus lately, but I know you're all out there and I hope everything is well....  thanks for your dedication and being there for me!

Can't wait to hear from everyone!

Roger: Good job dude! you're so gonna make 25lb by june! I love your slow and steady mentality! You know the lba are staying off that way!

ekai: good! I was really starting to think I was the ony one around! well packing and moving has got to burn some serious cals right?? Good luck! Slow and steady is the right way to do it! That way you know the odds of it coming back are super slim!

Me: Ran a mile this am and it killed me! I had wanted to do some lifting after but my heartrate was through the roof! I don't think I gave myself enough time awake before running so my HR went from sleep to serious workout too fast. I just did some negative pull ups and chin ups then hopped in the shower. In an effort to combat the overindulgence on the cruise, since I know there's no way I won't overindulge, I'm coming up with a food and workout plan. I'm only gonna have one carby meal or dessert a day (hopefully haha), and I want to at least run one mile everyday and do tabata squats or deadlifts. Let's see if I can pull it off!

~Sarah

Sarah:  When is your cruise?  Where/how long are you going?  I've never taken a cruise but have recently been interested in it.  I love your plan to counteract the caloriefest!  If you get up each morning and exercise, before you see all those temptations, you'll be doing good.  Hopefully some more people will start posting again, otherwise I'll be here by myself until you get back!  Wink

Me:  I .. am .. so .. tired!  I know I've been burning some serious cals, but this move is killing me.  I SO don't want to be at work today...  there's so much for me to do at my new home.  My entire living room and breakfast room are FULL of boxes!  My 2nd bedroom is currently the bedroom, gym, music room (piano, guitar, etc) and office..  haha..  everything was just piled in there!  I'm not physically tired (must be due to that cardio and weight lifting I've been doing Laughing yay!) but mentally I'm exhausted.  I feel like I'm on a search for treasure trying to figure out what I have and where to put it.  I'm still (somehow) excited, lol; just looking forward to the end of it!  Not eating much because I'm so busy: really don't have an appetite.  So hopefully I'll see some results!

Oh, and it only took me 25 minutes to find a pair of office-appropriate shoes this morning!  hehehe

ekai: I leave May 16th and get back on the 24th. I'm so excited for the stress free 8 days!! We're going to the Caribbean, specifically Nassau, Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay. I can run a 9 min mile and with a warm up and cool down I can be done running in 15 min, the tabata training method takes 4 min, so that's less than 20 min a day! I can totally squeeze that in! I just need to be diligent about it! Moving always makes me mentally exhausted. I think it's all the frustraion of everything being out of place.  Good job finding shoes in under 30 min! haha

Hi guys, Just giving you the heads up that this thread will be moved to the Games & Challenges forum shortly. Have fun!

Just thought I'd pop in and back out again lol!

Hi everyone!  Wow everyone seems to be doing fabulous! Way to go!  I haven't disappeared.  I have been lurking but have not been writing in so much because I am reading the site at work.

Here's a little info on my progress in and outside of weight loss.

I have finished school for the year.  I recieved honours for my 4.5/5 GPA for last semester.  I also started my job back again last week (I work in the summers as an office clerk for my municipality).  I have not given up on my diet either.  I am walking on my breaks and am eating decent.  I think in my last post, (34 posts and about 3 weeks ago) I was 199.  Now I am 195.4 so I am still on track.  Well that's it for now!  Back to work... house work that is!

Wow Tori!!!  That's so awesome!!  Congrats on the 195!  You're doing phenomenal!!  Great job at school too!  It's always a great feeling to have another year behind you.  How much more do you have to go?

Sarah: Your cruise sounds fun!  I hope you enjoy every minute of it!  8 stress free days of relaxation...  wow, I don't even know what I would do!  haha

Me:  Stilllllllllllllll unpacking, only about halfway thru it.  Yell  I have managed to rediscover half of my living room floor though!  We're gettin somewhere!!

I've been stressed beyond stressed (actually have two pimples on my always flawless face, lol, so that should tell ya) so I haven't been weighing in.  I know that I've been eating way less than perfect, but I'm not doing horrible either.  Now, if I could just find a gift for mother's day!

Hello all!  Sorry I've not been in much lately.  My work is very busy in the Spring and Summer, and I've not had as much time as I would like.  I'll try to catch up tonight.

I'm afraid that I started this thread in the wrong forum.  The mods tell me that it will be moved to games and challenges.  So if you can't find it here, it's been moved to G&C.  That forum is a bit hard to sort through.  It's mostly games that have nothing to do with weight loss.  But remember that you can always find it after you post by looking at the list of things you have posted, so that makes it much easier.

I had a good week last week.  Down two pounds to 185.  10 more pounds and I'll be back to 175, and then I can make further progress.

Pook

Just weighed in at 230, was 227 yesterday, what a bummer that was. Well anyways I am not 250 as I was a few months ago, Looking forward to 225 by the June goal date.

Roger from Western NY

Roger: That is really exciting!!!!  GREAT WORK!

Plaid: Glad to see how well you are dealing with everything.  I look up to you for sure.

Me:  I have been MIA.  In which, I have gained 8 lbs and lost them again.  So, I am back at 149.  I have been under a lot of unneeded stress.  I had a mutual breaking up with my boyfriend which actually lifted a lot of the stress.  I think that is what helped me get down again.  Even though I haven't moved the scale since I posted, I am really glad to be where I am!

Love to all of you.  Also, I will be on the road to go to a Girls Summer Gathering associated with skateboarding in Ripon, CA.  I, therefore, will be MIA again.  You are all very awesome and I am sorry I don't participate very often.

Bumping because the thread was moved to Games & Challenges, thanks :)

Finally made it to 225 Smilehave been wating for weeks for this, seem to be bouncing between 230 and 227 for the past month. Hope I canhold this weight and continue on the downware trend now.   Roger from Western NY

Congrats Roger!!  It's so great to hear your success!  Stick with it!

Weighed in this am at 225, it has been a long time coming but finally made it. Hope I can continue on the downward trend for the next month and make it 220 by the end of June.

Roger from Western NY

dang, what happened to everybody??  miss you guys and hearing your success!

I'm doing good for the past two weeks, trying to get back on track!

Hope we can start up this thread again!

Keep at it Roger!  You're doing so good!!

Hi ekai!  I'm still on track, down to 173lbs now.  Summer is so busy & fun!  Karate, swimming & bowling lessons for my boys, travel & guests, painting the house...

I'm glad you're getting back on track Cool  How are you enjoying your new place, settled in yet?

I hope everyone else can check in too.  We still have about 2 weeks left on our challenge!

hey mia!  Great to hear you're still on track and sounds like you're pretty active!  My place is finally getting settled (omg I had so much stuff...  I should've started my own goodwill center) but now that I actually have space -- not only in my house, but in my brain for thinking straight! -- I'm getting on track.  I'm cooking great foods and exercising a lot more than while I was moving/unpacking/buried in boxes.  The heat is on here too..  already heat indexes of 100+ so no time better than now!

I'm just wondering if anyone would be interested in starting another/continuation challenge.  I started this group later than everyone else and although I lost about 5 lbs, I still want to lose about 30 more.  Any thoughts??

I hear you on the 'stuff' - just where does it come from?!  Good to hear that you are enjoying the new space and back on track (bravo to you girl!  I still have a room full of boxes & we moved 7 months ago! lol)

I would love to continue with another challenge after this one.  I love having a 'home' for support, etc.  I'm learning that lots of people drop out of groups & challenges for whatever reason, and the internet always slows down in the summer, but I'm sure there would still be plenty of people interested.

I have less than 15lb to lose to get to my healthy bmi, but I still want to lose another 10-20 or so after that, not sure exactly yet but I am with you on wanting to lose about 30lb more!

ok great!  I guess as long as I have at least one person with me I'll go ahead with a new group..  lol!

I'm planning my wedding....ugh!  But thankfully since we haven't picked the date yet, we just moved it back from Nov to Feb!  So that gives me a lil more time to get where I want to be. Laughing  I'm thinking we should stick to 25lbs at a time, so how about 25lbs from July 1st to Nov 30th....    that's 5lbs a month, which I think is reasonable.  Should we call it "25 pound challenge: Jul-Nov 09"?

I would really hope that people from this group would carry over to the new group..  cause I'll miss all of you, even though we've all been MIA for a long time.

btw, mia you certainly make me feel better about my unpacking.  My husband is allllll  over me about a couple of boxes that I've stuffed into closets!  (& yes we're already married...  didnt have a big ceremony here, wanted to do 2 weddings, 2nd one is in Tanzania)  He's kind of a minimalist though, so I kinda understand.

alright guys...  (hopefully I'm not just talking to myself) Wink

I created the new group today.  It's called 25 pound challenge: Jul-Nov '09 and it's in the Games & Challenges forum just like this one.  http://caloriecount.about.com/challenge-jul-n ov-ft143182

Please everyone go there!  I'm only making a new one so that we can start fresh with the next 5 months and hopefully give us all a jumpstart!

If you can't find the forum, please message me!!  I want to see you all there!!!
