Just wanted to say congratulations on your weight loss.  I am much older than you but I have about the same amount to lose that you do.  It is very encouraging to see your numbers.  It gives me a little hope.  Keep up the good work.

Mrs Toots

I'd like to join in this challenge but I am probably the SHORTEST one here!

Wow, I was  doing so well the whole day yesterday - I'm doing a combo controlling calories and trying the south beach phase 1 for 2 weeks.  But then my relatives were visiting and we went out to a Chinese buffet for dinner - waaaaaa - too much temptation.  I tried my best to stay away from the breads and stuff but finally had to have some of the desert, teriyaki sauce, etc...  Ok, I'm going to be really good from now, and being part of this challenge and knowing I have to post my weight here should hopefully help me keep on track.

I've kinda been stalling at 0.5 lb loss a week, and I really need a big loss to inspire me.  My wedding reception is this summer so I really need to lose at least 30 pounds before July.  Is 10 lb a month really doable?  I was watching the biggest losers yesterday and they are losing like 4 to 7 lb a week, yeesh.

Infinityiz: Oh no! Not the dreaded buffet! You poor woman! Yes 10lbs a month is doable, just make sure you eat enough calories if you're burning a lot. Try not to have more than a 1000 calorie deficit (between your eat meter and your burn meter). If you ever get stuck in a plateau, a great thing to try is zig-zagging your calories. 1200 one day, 1700 the next, 1500 after that, 1900 the next, and so on. It really kickstarts your metabolism, and gets your body out of the 'routine' that it got used to. For zig-zagging don't eat larger meals, eat regularly throughout the day, at least 5-6 times per day.

People on the biggest loser are having huge deficits, and can't eat enough for how much they're exercising. They are supervised by doctors, and even they lose only 1 pound in a week or even gain when they're body adapts to their routine. A healthy weight loss is in between 1-2lbs per week, possibly 3.

I'm going to my friend's wedding this July, so I'm really hoping I can get down to 175 and find a hot dress to slip into for the reception!

Hope that helps! All the best!!

Thanks much that really help.  That's what I love about this forum and this method, it's an intelligent, active process.

And it also answers my other question because I go to the gym about 5 days a week and burn 300 - 600 calories.  I was wondering if I should eat those many more calories or will those be part of my deficit, so now I know that I  need to make sure that I keep track of my burning and eating as accurately as possible and stick close to the max of 1000 cal deficit a dayCool.  Thanks for the great advise.  Enjoy!

EDIT: Thanks much and great to meet you all.  They do work out a lot, good point.  Hehehe, y'know a friend of mine's husband helped to motivate her by giving her  $100 for every 10 pounds  lost and it did help :-) for a while!

Yeah me too...

The people on The Biggest Loser (my favorite show EVER) have 24 hour access to the gym and personal trainers, plus they work out like 8 hours a day, plus they have Bob and Jillian to monitor their calorie intake. And they are on tv, in front of all of us, they have the ultimate motivation. Oh yea, and the money.  I know, I get discouraged at myself when I see their numbers too, but just keep that stuff in mind and do what works for you. Nice to meet you, btw.
