Hey All,
I tried Nicorette gum and patches and carrots blah blah blah, and none of it worked. They say that when you use these products that you need "will power" well sorry, but what little will power i had was getting zapped every time i had a cigarette
Then I heard about a NHS tablet called Champix, i didn't hold out much hope, but for £6 every 2 weeks(considering i was spending £5 a day on a pack of 20), I thought what the hey.
I have been smoke free for a year and don't have any urges.
I guess the best way i can describe how Champix works, is when you have that little voice telling you that you want a cigarette every 30 secs to 1 min. And eventually you give in.
Well with Champix, that voice would tell me i needed a cigarette, but instead of giving in, i would pause and ask myself if I wanted one, and surprisingly i didn't. It was a really strange feeling.
I now get a very occasional thought of cigarettes, but as soon as the thought comes into my head, it goes back out again.
I'm just sad that while Nicorette gum and patches are hugely advertised, that Champix is never mentioned.
An interesting fact is that Champix started its life as a anti depressant in America.Doctors who had prescribed it, started to see that their patients who smoked were giving up smoking even though they had not planned to. After they realized its potential, it had its anti depressant element removed and then was released as a stop smoking tablet, which then the NHS picked up on.

hey there thanks for the info; is this the same as Chantix here in the states? or a different medication? I tried Wellbutrin twice ... it worked the first time but the second time it made me really dazed and confused (no pun intended) all the time so I quit Wellbutrin the second it didn't work. I had a slight wknd of debauchery and smoked so much that now I've been 2 days smoke free and the thought of one is making me nausous but I'm sure when I get bored I'll want a cig. :( oh well I'll look into Champix.
thnks for the info

I'm pretty sure they are the same product, but make sure to double check. Champix has worked wonders for me, though it gives me crazy technicolor dreams and I have to make sure to take it on a full stomach. A small price to pay for zero physical cravings!!
The psychological cravings, now ... those I get to deal with on my own ![]()
On the whole, though, a really good experience. I'm 2 months smoke free!
Yes I believe Chantix and Champix are the same. Just diffrent names. I was on Chantix and it has been 8 months to the date that I quit smoking. I even work with 2 smokers and it didnt bother me when I quit. I didnt have bad dreams it just made me feel ill in the morning and I didnt like that. I took the pills for about 3 weeks. I have not smoked since. My sister also took the pills and she stopped taking them after a week and she is still smoke free. Also my mom started Chantix and she is also smoke free. It is a wonderful thing to take but some of the side effects arent good. But it worked for my family.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
