Do I have a chance getting into Willliam and Mary??
Okay, so I'm like freaking out. I applied early admission and
should hear in a few days... but I just gotta know what others
think. I have a 3.97 gpa my sat's were 1220 (the old, so out of
two... this is what I think is going to really bring me down because
sat's are so low.) I have tons of extra curriculars inclusing
editor in chief of my school newspaper, lots of performing arts stuff,
and World of Difference (plus other honor societies and other stuff.)
I'm in-state... but I'm so worried because I dont think I have a great shot.... please be honost... does anyone know anyone who went there/ went there themselves??
Do I have a shot? Am I even on the radar?
p.s. I think the strongest part of my application was my essays, they were super good.

Well I don't know, I'm in Canada, but best of luck.
I don't know about William and Mary, but if this calms your fears at all I got into UC Berkeley (Cal) with a 3.4GPA, tuba in the marching band as my extracurricular, a 1140 SAT score and a kick ass essay--which I also believe was the strongest part of my app.
In my economics class in high school we did an activity where we were given a pile of applications and we could only choose a handful to let into our "college". Every group in the classroom set up standards where the GPA had to be above a certain point (I see you'll have no problem with that) and then it all rested on the essays and somewhat on extracurriculars.. SAT scores played a small role, if that's what's got you worried.
Don't fret, dear. :) What are your alternative schools?

I go to William and Mary. I was in state and I had a 3.67 with a 1400 on the SAT. Don't be nervous. William and Mary takes lots of people in the early decision pool. Lots of my friends got in with lower GPAs and lower SAT scores! Your leadership stuff is going to give you that extra boost and I'm about 95% sure you'll get in (the 5% being due to the fact that I myself didn't see your essay and stuff) Don't worry!! Let us know if (I mean WHEN) you get in - you should find out pretty soon! :D
don't worry about it at this point...just relax, let the letters come in, and calmly decide where you'll be going.
while william and mary may be your fave, I can tell you that it really doesn't matter a whole lot where you do your undergrad work, as long as there's a supportive faculty and a program that interests you.
I thought I would die if I didnt go to my first choice, but here I am richer for not going (it was $40k/year and thus prohibitively expensive).
Any school you go to will give you a wealth of experiences and knowledge. If you end up elsewhere, and you're still unhappy, there's always a chance (or two, or three) to transfer.
Good luck, I wish you the best. It's a tough time for you high school seniors right now.

ahh thanks! I am so nervousss... William and Mary id def. my first
choice because of their strong theater program. I would like to
major in theater and minor in business so that I can train to be a
producer/theater manager. I want to go to NYU for graduate
school. My second choice is UVA (another reach school) but there
business and drama prgrams arent as good as WandM.
My realistic choice is Virginia Tech but I want to go to a more challenging environment and be someplace that every other kid in my school wont be.
I live in Virginia so I'm extremely fortunate to have so many great colleges in-state, and I'm sure wherever I go I'll be happy... but W and M would be super great!
p.s.
One other statistic I can give - I'm 23 in my class (out of 563) which is pretty good... but once again, i dunno if its good enough for w and m!
p.s.s.
lovethetangible you go to w and m?!? your like my idol! do you like it??? and what was the stats of your friends?? I'm hoping it is true what they say about early admission! I'm crossing my fingers!

cosmic is right, it doesn't matter where you do your undergrad.
Also, don't get too ahead of yourself. It's good to think ahead, but you may change your mind a million times from now until when you hope to go to graduate school.
Look at me, I changed my major in undergrad 4 times!!! As a result of this it took me 6 years to finish my degree and I'm happy now-I'm in graduate school.

Okay, what is William and Mary? I'm guessing it's a University...
yes, its a college in Virginia. It's extremely competitive, hence the reason why I'm nervous.
I agree I shouldnt get too ahead of myself... especially with graduate school and such. It's just really frustrating not knowing where I will be this time next year.

Don't worry too much. One of the girls from my graduating class goes there, and she graduated barely cum laude... she had about a B average throughout high school, and her SAT scores were a little lower than yours. She went for marine biology though, which is pretty different from theater, so that might be different. Still, especially since you're in-state, I don't think you need to worry too much.
I totally know what you mean about being frustrated not knowing where you'll be next year! I was like that... luckily I did ED to NYU so I found out in December of my senior year. And now I'm terrified about grad school :)

I guess I like William and Mary. It was my first choice and I did apply ED, but making friends has always been difficult for me because I usually have more guy friends than girl friends, but since my boyfriend and I got together, I haven't really needed close friends. I spend every minute with him... Also, the guys don't want to be "just friends" with me, so it's pretty obnoxious. In an academic sense, William and Mary is the best place I could possibly be. The classes are tough and I have a good split of work/play time. I'm taking 17 credits (the max you can take is 18) and it's not too bad (2 credits are from my Modern 201 class) It's a beautiful place and all of my professors are amazing. There's also a beautiful new recreational center that I've developed a hardcore addiction to.
Hate to tell you, but I don't know the specific stats of my friends. I don't want to ask them and hurt their feelings. I definitely know that there were some SAT scores much lower than mine, however, and some GPAs in the 3.3, and sometimes lower, arena. Then again, I come from a hardcore private school, and our GPAs are rather skewed in the low direction, so I don't know how to compare them to public school GPAs. We can't get above a 4.0 at my school. Anyways, don't stress! The letter will come soon, and you can scream and experience all those college emotions! Hopefully they'll be good ones! :D

Getting into undergrad isn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks (unless you're applying to Yale, Harvard, etc). I had a pretty decent GPA but I test poorly on standardized testing and I got into a really amazing private university.
You've just gotta make sure you bust some balls during undergrad if you're planning on going to graduate school later... and develop some tight relationships with a few profs. Those letters of recommendations can boost you up a lot.

thanks for all the words of wisdom! I geuss I will just have to sit back and wait =)
alibuch is right, first year is really, really tough-for everyone. Just get through it.
Becoming close with profs whom you admire is a definite asset. I did that, unintentionally, and I had really strong referees when I applied to grad school. It definitely helped.

gotten mine yet??
Do you think that thye would send out all the ones that got accepted before the rejection ones??

Sometimes things get caught up in the mail. You'll be fine.
And yeah.... like dharma said... those references from profs. can help you sooo much later in life... even for job interviews and stuff like that. I have one professor that my roommate and I became really close with. It wasn't intentional, just kind of happened. He's 37 now so he's not too much older than us but he used to come over to our apartment when we had cookouts and stuff. He wrote me some amazing letters of reference for the Peace Corps and when I applied to volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and my current job.
I'm not sure what you're planning on going to uni for but if you're doing a program where you're going to have to do a research thesis, get very close with the professor who's your mentor on that. They can attest to your hard work ethic which is going to be more important than if your GPA is a little lower.
