Has your change in fitness/nutrition made you question what you want to be when you're older?

Quote  |  Reply

Time and time again we're pressured into figuring out what we're going to do with our lives. With good reason o'course!

I never want to end up like another broken soul stuck in a cubicle doing something they absolutely hate just to pay the bills to live in an empty apartment.. surviving off of ramen noodles and donuts. It's not me, it will never be me, and I will strive to do everything in my power to make sure that's not me. (And if it's you.. you can do better too!)

But I began thinking.. what are the things I enjoy? Choosing a career is like choosing a fitness activity. If you hate what you're doing, you're either going to be miserable, or you're not going to do it. I enjoy having fun! What's fun to me? Well, studying is great fun too. In some doses. But what really sparks my interest right now in my life is nutrition and fitness! It's incredibly fun and almost.. invigorating.

I do have the goal to be an ESL teacher, and there isn't any way I'm giving that up. I have the habit of questioning myself anyway (just to make sure I don't end up miserable.) Hell, I found out I have an incredible interest in psychology, but still I think to myself "But I think I'd rather be an undercover psychologist then a trained one.. ESL Teaching is what I want to do." I think in the same way, I'd love to be able to spread good nutrition and fitness to others undercover rather then being a nutritionist or a fitness instructor.

So, I've noticed in general, the entire lifestyle change from being inactive and junk-food addicted to being active and making healthier choices (hopefully!).. has anyone considered changing that "when I grow up" career goal after making the changes in their lives?

(Just curious to see how many people have, incase you're wondering. :D)

Its changed me so much, I've decided I want to major in nutrition and exercise science

If it can be classed as a change in fitness, I'd like to help people who suffer from disordered eating when I am older once I am better recovered myself. Volunteering or otherwise. In fact, I'd like to volunteer full stop. Recovery has made me realise there are more people in the world than myself and some of them need a lot more help than I do.

Although I've got a BA in Economics, MBA and a Masters in Tourism, I'm a travel writer and I LOVE what I do. I started writing at 15 !!! But for money only at 24...I'm 27 now and work as full time writer.

Losing weight didn't change my career or my choises career wise but has made me realize that I actually want a healthy body b4 we want to have kids (i'm married). It also made me realize that I want to be healthy for myself and my husband so that we can enjoy the life together now and when we'll get older.

I must admit I've toyed with the idea of becoming a personal trainer or nutritionist, but decided that I'm not really a people person.

I've known since I was twelve that I wanted to be a biologist. Biology is my favorite and best subject, and never fails to fascinate me. I love it so much.

And I already know, because I don't look as forward to my other classes as to science.

after watching super size me, I changed my major to Nutrition Sciences so I can spread knowledge of healthy lifestyle choices. It's a science and math intensive field, but it's so worth it.

Actually, it might have.

I think I might like to open up a cafe when I get older, if my psychiatry/neuroscience career falls through. ;)

Yes I my major is now Physical Therapy and I am working on being a licensed personal trainer.

Well, you guys make me feel bad for saying no.  Losing weight only excites me about my job because it means I can make new scrubs in a smaller size.

I've always wanted to be a nutritionist but drama/acting and medicine caught my eye :0.

How can I make walking fun?

You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
