I agree changing passwords, and not using the same one over and over, are good precautions - but it still bugs the hell out of me, because it's sure isn't as easy as just saying "change them."

Even if I only used my default one for non-sensitive accounts, I have so many "need to be secure" accounts, I need a frakking database just to keep track of my user names and passwords.  Yes, there are actually password manager apps out there, or one can use an encrypted excel spreadsheet - but I still have to look something up everytime I needed to log in somewhere.  *end rant*

Yeah I have a similar problem, the number of times I have got stuck trying to remember a user name and password and then being confused because I was sure I took a note of it somewhere but can't find it.....ggrrr happened just this past week when I changed to linux...getting it all sorted now though :)

Actually a more appropriate title and recommendation should be "Double check the link you are following, and do not reveal your password." If you receive an email asking you to enter your password and username for whatever reason IGNORE IT. If you really really really think it's legitimate then do not follow the link, but enter the address of the institution manually in to your web browser.
