changing measurements?
So, I measured myself last week (bust-34, waist-26, hips-36.5, thighs-20.5) I haven't gained any weight yet, but most of my measurements have increased. Now I'm bust-34, waist-28!, hips-37, thighs-21) I'm not so worried about the half inches on my thighs and hips, but two inches on my waist!? Is that normal?
Are you retaining water? If you're eating sodium or are due for AF, then that could have something to do with it. I gain monthly water weight in my abdomen.
I have an apple shape, so I gain in the waist first, then it redistributes to other areas later. Same concept in reverse when I'm losing (eg, I lose an inch in the thigh, but it goes to my waist, then it comes off permanently and I lose a pound).
That's just my experience; maybe others have different views...
If I'm retaining water would that mean that i should be gaining weight as well?
I bet you're bloated... or very underweight people seem to gain at their stomach. Eventually it kind of redistributes, apparently.
On your thighs.. that could be muscle?
Yeah...bloated makes sense. Any way to combat that?
Keep eating more. Seems counter intuitive but when you're not used to eating larger portions and/or have been malnurished people bloat - a lot - during refeeding.
Also, if you're taking in too much sodium or dehydrated you can bloat. Also too much fibre... lack of a bowel movement... 'gassy' foods like beans... etc.
Beyond what wistful's written, peppermint helps me. Oil or tea forms, though the oil is more potent. [: Don't worry, it does go down and things distribute in the end!
Basically all my weight gain has gone to my stomach, so I feel ya on the changing measurements. Like everyone else has said, it does take time for it to redistribute. So I'm just thinking positive for now! Also, I heard lifting weights helps as well as light cardio.
lala, whats this about peppermint oil?
Heh. My GP prescribed me peppermint oil capsules after she checked my (then very distended) stomach out. It still bloats - it's unavoidable! - but my gut no longer protrudes from ANY shirt I wear in a round, hard pregnant seeming lump. I honestly looked like I was a few months in before. >__>
Why am I gaining weight after a gastric bypass?
After a gastric bypass, absorption becomes more efficient over time. And so, unless you have dumping syndrome, assume that absorption is not a problem... Read more
