Changing Meds Not Doing Well

Quote  |  Reply

So I am switching my anti depressant from Zoloft to Welbutrin and I'm having issues, I knew it was gonna be hard but I negleted to remember that it would affect my diet and exercise.  I'm switching because the Zoloft I felt was making me gain weight so I decided to switch.  I have depression pretty bad, the Zoloft had been working but I was gaining a TON of weight I mean almost 30 pounds in two months with diet and exercise, so I decided to switch to a drug that was more weight neutral so I wouldn't be fighting my metabolism as well as a drug.  Well back to my point, so I've been on the Welbutrin for two days, I haven't taken my Zoloft for three and I can feel my depression creeping up on me.  I had to read some criticism of a play I wrote from english class and I almost started crying from something that I didn't care that much about.  If I was in my right mind I wouldn't have almost broken down, I would have taken the criticism to heart and try to fix whatever it was I needed to fix.  So what I need is support, I know that the Welbutrin will start to work in about a week and I will be okay, I'm just worried because my depression involves lying in bed doing nothing and eating a lot of chocolate, so I just need moral support right now.  Thanks :)

You can do it!  Don't give up, we'll be here for you if you need to vent. :)

Try to remind yourself that it is only temporary.  If it gets too difficult, call your doctor.  They can do a cross-taper for you that might make things easier, ie having you go back on a low dose of Zoloft while your Wellbutrin starts to kick in, then coming down on it slowly until discontinuation.  If you're so down that you're laying in bed all day, that warrants a call to your doctor.  Good luck!

You want support you got it. Wellbutrion can actually make you lose weight.

I know it is hard to work out when you are down, but you should make yourself go out of house and walk around the block a couple of times a day... 20 mins before each meal would be ideal but 10 min a couple of times would GREAT too.

As a matter of fact this is my goal...I am going to through a rough patch so this what my doctor suggested....if you want to email me about your progress, I'll do the same.

Throw away the three 3 C's chocolates, chips, and candy (caffeine, salt, fried fat, sodium, and sugar) ...go to the store and get mood lifting foods...if this sounds like too much work ask a friend to do this for you or come with you.

try this for your sweet tooth before you go walking:

1/2 sliced banana, walnuts, sugarfree chocolate syrup....

freeze the other half for later perhaps for a smoothie with soy vanilla yogurt, soy milk, and almonds...

Thanks all of you :)  I'm doing much better today, I found an outlet for my chocolate craving, chocolate milk, well Ovaltine and skim milk, and because part of my depression is agoraphobia, I'm just doing the workouts I had recorded on my DVR from fit TV, they aren't much but they boost my endorphine enough to get out of bed.  Thank you all very much for your support, I'm feeling good today and I know that I might gain a little bit while switching meds just because its a stress on my body, but that's okay, when the Welbutrin kicks in it will be just that much easier to loose the weight I have :)  Again thank you all, I will keep ya'll updated:)
