chantix and gaining weight
Anyone else experianced this problem? I feel like I am retaining ALOT of water. Is this a side effect from quitting smoking?
I'm freakin out here......
A bit of my history...I started in Dec of 06. at 182 and was down to 147 with a loooong plateau (the last 4 months). I am now up to 151.8 AHHHHHHH!!!!
Typically eat 1500-1800 calories if I workout...less if not and drink at least a gallon of water per day.
Congratulations!!!!!!!! On being smoke free.. People don't give quitters enough credit. You really should be SO proud of yourself.
I used Chantix earlier this year and quit after 7 years of smoking. I did my best not to worry about the weight while I was still on the pill.. if I were you I'd focus on one thing at a time. Allow yourself to not get upset about any possible weight gain from the pills... just keep eating healthy and exercise. If you gain, you gain. Then, once you're off the pill and smoke free you can worry about losing the weight you might gain.
If you worry too much about the weight gain right now, there's risk that you'll give up on quitting smoking out of fear of gaining weight(or at least this risk exists with some people).
Hang in there!

This is my 11th week on Chantix. I had smoked a pack a day for 25 years. It didn't work as fast for me. I was able to cut down from a pack a day to 1/2 a cigarette a day, but it wasn't until week 9 that I could actually go a whole day with nothing. I haven't had anything in 2 weeks. The only side effects I have had is weight gain and weird dreams. (I always eat something before I take it so I don't get sick to my stomach) I also take Synthroid everyday for my thyroid problem. When I started gaining weight, I had my doctor do a blood test and my thyroid level was way off, so she increased my synthroid. (Still waiting for that to start working!!) My problem is that everyone said I would have increased energy when I quit smoking, and I'm not seeing it. The plan was to quit smoking and then lose weight. I have gained 10 pounds, which wouldn't be terrible if I weren't already 20 pounds overweight! I have been watching what I'm eating and going on the treadmil at least 30 minutes a day and I still get on the scale and see increases. Has anyone tried "Alli" for weight loss? I'm desparate to start losing--my family is going to Mexico in May~
I am on Chantix, 2 weeks now,I quit smoking the day I started. I am sick some days and feel great others. I am yet to feel the extra energy, I sleep and surreal dreams about 10 hours a day so I am with you on that. I am sure our bodies are going through a huge adjustment. As a general rule I never weigh myself I just go on how I feel. Staying active and portion control is the key to weight loss. Portion out your food until you get in the habit and keep lots of veggies around to snack on. No Bread or bread like stuff, Somebody once told me if you want to be in the best shape of your life train like your going to do a marathon! Good Luck!
I am also on Chantix..and it has some draw backs BUT nothing compared to the risk of continued smoking....after 20 years...right? I have insomnia...but GREAT dreams...enjoying the lucid dreams theya re like movies I star in nightly.... BUT feel ancy...anyone else feeling weird pings and pongs...maybe its the increase in lung capacity giving me more blood....so I do not have more energy on CHANTIX...in fact it makes me feel sort of numb (not in a crazy, depressed or suicidal (liek the risk on the literature)..but just almost "stoned"...weird...because I am also on adderall for ADD and not very mellow...so for the one wondering about the energy...you are on Chantix? sorry to tired to look...but if you are just wait until the 2 months...
