I will be glad to offer support when needed.  I started Chantix on Feb. 22nd and have successfully quit smoking AND have lost weight.  I no longer am taking Chantix though I quit taking it about a month ago.  I am smoke free almost 4 months now!!  Best decision I have ever made!!
I quit smoking w/ Chantix on May 18. So far its working really well. Ive been able to lose weight while on it - the only gain I have had since taking it was due to a little mini-binge.

But Im all about offering & receiving support. Quitting smoking can be very trying at times.
Thanks for the replies.

My story: I am 52 and have smoked since I was 18/19 quitting once when I was preg with my first (it made me sick?.very sick to smoke) but as soon as that baby was born I was ready o smoke again!

I have tried patches, gum, Welburtron and have sucked on suckers until my teeth ached. This time I HAVE to quit! I have Fibromyalgia RA and I am 70 pounds over weight. (I was 100 pounds when I started this journey to better health)

I took my first Chantix yesterday morning?.I didn?t expect to notice a difference with the first pill but at lunch time I just didn?t feel good. Wasn?t hungry at all. Went out to eat with my mom and ate ½ baked potato and about ½ the steamed broccoli that I ordered.

I was hungry at supper and did eat but the rest of the evening I was sick to my stomach. Felt fine this morning, had my usual cup of coffee and smoked that morning cig. Took all my meds and drank a glass of water. Before I could get out the door to leave for work I was again very nauseated and have stayed that way (it is now 11:30am). I was finally able to eat my muffing and later a bowl of blackberries. I smoked less than ½ a cig on my break. It will be lunch time soon?.I usually smoke 2 or 3 during my lunch break. But I doubt it today. Did these pills affect anyone else this way? If I can stand the nausea I am pretty sure they will work for me.
I quit smoking with Chantix almost 2 months ago. It hasn't been bad, I tried to quit cold turkey like 10 times prior to Chantix and I love Chantix.  I've actually lost weight while quitting, which is amazing to me.  A friend of mine quit cold turkey and gained 20 pounds.
Fancy...I always take mine with food or shortly after eating, so I havent had any problems with it making me sick. I would try taking it with food and see if that helps.

I noticed after about a week of taking it that my cigs started tasting weird. I quit about 2 weeks after taking it.
I will take it a little later in the day tomorrow with my muffin and see if that helps. I am really nauseated! It is getting worse instead of better.....but I am going to struggle through because I MUST quit smoking this time. I am looking at knee surgeries in a few years if not sooner...I need to be smoke free for those kind of things!
Yes I had those same problems...nausea is one of the side effects of this medicine.  You need to make sure you drink a full glass of water with it and not on an empty stomach.  I got nauseated and had insomnia so bad at night I quit taking the evening dosage about two weeks after starting it and did ok with that.  On a different website I used when I quit smoking I know of several others who have had this side effect.

Some of the other side effects associated with this medicine are:

nausea

insomnia

gas

headaches

wierd dreams (quite cool actually)

I think I had most of those but the headaches weren't bad and went away after a day or too and after cutting my dose in half the rest went away....kinda miss the dreams though :-)

on the insert that came with the medicine it lists what the side effects are for it.

I know for me since it was a temporary thing it was worth it!!  I just wanted to quit smoking and I did with this medicine.
I want to quit too and if I have to have an upset stomach for a week or two to do it so be it!

I slept like a baby last night....no insomnia, no dreams....and no headache

I am a little bloated and gassy but not a lot. I am just really sick to my stomach and I have dry mouth because I don't even want to drink.

I am forcing down some vegies and dip and a little low fat cheese and I am sipping a 7up. Oh well this too shall pass and when it does I will be a non smoker!!

Question? Who quit the fastest?
I also took Chantix to quit smoking, however, that is when I gained almost 20 lbs.  Yea well.  I cant seem to gain control over my weight right now, I've actually GAINED weight since I started watching what I eat again.  I am rather frustrated about that.

However, I quit almost 3 months ago and I was taking it for almost 1 month before I quit.  I did get nausea a lot, but it wasnt stopping me from taking it.  Then I started getting REALLY bad stomach cramps (I think it was from the gas the pill created and having to hold it all in at work), so I stopped, but I had already quit and was confident I didnt want to smoke anymore, so it worked out well.

As far as weight and smoking go, I would much rather be a heavier non-smoker than a skinny smoker!  Smoking is so unattractive!! (haha, I love saying that after smoking for 13 years).
I took Chantix for roughly 2 weeks before I quit.
i took Chantix for about 6 days before I quit and never looked back.  :-)

Demilia, I love saying that too hehe...i never realized how awful the smell was until I quit and I smoked for over 22 years..  :-)
Already my truck is gaging me (the smell)....I am going to have to clean it like crazy this weekend! Hope I can do it in a week or two. Would love to be smoke free before our reunion on the 23 and especially when we have the camp out over the weekend after the 4th with all the grandkids!

I love Chantix! I am about to hit my 3 months quit date! And I still never want one. I was the hardest addicted to!

I <3 Chantix!

In regards to Chantix and dieting. Chantix causes terrible nausea, at least for me. Because of this, I had to eat a moderate size meal everytime I took it. After a sandwich would be ok, for example. That was the only issue I had.

There is one other, very important, thing. Chantix helped me get some hope back in my life. I had some confidence in myself and my strengths. I feel that if I could beat smoking, I could beat this weight. Cigarettes were a terrible addiction for me, I am not addicted to Fritos. I can beat this.
I have the nausea......but will eat first from now on before I take it. Did you quit after the first week or did it take you longer?
Thanks guys! We certainaly are winners aren't we?

I'll keep you posted on how I am doing.

Wondering for those that have quit how long they took the pill afterwards....
I know my doc said its usually a 3 month course, but if I feel I need another 3 months she will prescribe it. BUt Im interested also in knowing how long most ppl have taken it.
well I bought two prescriptions of Chantix but only took 1/2 of the second box.  I think I took it a total of 2 months.  I talked to my doc before I quit taking it and he said that they advised 8 to 12 weeks so since it was almost 8 weeks I quit taking it.  It has been almost 2 months since I quit taking it and I don't feel any different....well maybe my heads a little clearer (but I  still have crs syndrome but I blame that on getting older haha).... but I still don't want to smoke.  :-)
Well I am eating my muffin and fruit then will take my third pill. My nausea dissipated yesterday around 6 - 7 pm and I was able to eat some supper. So today I will eat first. I smoked on the way to work and was nauseated by that....the urge to smoke is lessening already because I hate that nauseated feeling!
Fancy, I dont know if I said this before or not, but I noticed about a week after taking it that I wanted to smoke less because my cigs tasted different. They werent as good to me.

Has anyone had a cigarette since quitting with Chantix?
They are already tasting funny to me and I am only on my 3rd day!
