Ok, so after swim practice tonight I was starving since I was forced to eat lunch 2 hours earlier because of a test I had in the afternoon. I went to the dining hall with the intentions of just having my typical salad with a grilled chicken spinach wrap. BUT I noticed that they were having a "Thanksgiving" style dinner, so I indulged and had skinless white meat turkey breast with stuffing. I did not have any mashed potatoes because most likely the dining hall pumped them full of sour cream and butter, and I also did not eat any gravy. I can't count calories since I'm in college, but I do my best to estimate. Is my splurge at dinner going to affect me?
I don't think you went overboard. with myself, i've been trying to not cut out foods completely, but rather control portion sizes. I don't think 1 day will ruin your hard work.....
That really doesn't sound bad at all. White meat turkey is just like the grilled chicken you would have had anyway. The stuffing is the only indulgence I see, and it probably wasn't even that bad. You should instead congratulate yourself on not eating the gravy or mashed potatoes. Good job!
I agree that the turkey probably wasn't that bad, but i'm worried about the stuffing. I mean, some nutritional information I find says it's not bad (and some even say it's good), while others seem to think stuffing kills a diet.
it was one part of one meal, Joe -- you were probably still burning from swim practice, anyway. Don't freak. Do be aware that the biggest thing you have to worry about that meal is the amount of sodium in it -- the stuffing would have had a lot -- that may cause some water retention.
There are no diet killers -- you should be able to find a place for all the foods you enjoy. You may not be able to eat them daily, or even weekly, and you may not be able to eat the volume that you once did -- but you should still be able to eat them, you just have to plan for them.
You might consider throwing a couple of Odwalla, Kashi or Fiber 1 bars in your swim bag -- if you refuel with some carbs w/in 30 mins of practice, you will find that not only do you recover from the workout faster, but you will also not be quite so ravenous when you leave the pool.
Hahaha, you sound like me, I felt SOOOO guilty after what I ate yesterday until I entered it into my log and was all, "WOW that was SO not as bad as I thought"...

That sounds like success, not cheating. Instead of depriving yourself of the special dinner they were serving, you enjoyed it with restraint.
I count calories, but when I'm at a guest's house, I eat some things I wouldn't eat at home. Like you, I just restrain myself. I'm losing weight (slowly) without feeling like I've turned into a slave to my new lifestyle.
Hardly! You will be just fine!!!! Turkey breast with no-skin is like the perfect food! Ya, I am sure the stuffing was some-pre-made crap but whatever, every so often you can totally treat yourself! haha!
