"Cheating" with your weigh ins?

Quote  |  Reply

So I've been trying to loose 20 pounds for a while now

I've been weighing in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but sometimes I go home to my parents and have a "bad" weekend. This one was especially bad, confession time:

- A lemon slice cake at work on Saturday
- A large packet of minieggs
-A vanilla latte and a cake out shopping with my dad on Sunday
- A huge Indian buffet dinner on Sunday night

Arrrgh, bad I know!

After one of these bad weekends I find myself skipping my Monday weigh in because I know I'll have gained. I try and be healthy until Wednesday when I weigh in again. I know this is probably bad as I should force myself to face up to the consequences of my weekend eating on Monday but I'm worried I'll be too disheartened if the scales go up. However I'm sure if I knew I HAD to weigh in on Monday morning then I would be more controlled at the weekened. Does anyone else find this? Or have any idea how I could beat the bad weekends so I wasn't too scared of the scales on Monday?

Thanks.

i understand the mechanism but i do weigh in even after bad days. i say to myself - so what, it is one kilo more than yesterday, well it cannot be all fat, and even if it was by some miracle, i srill weigh less than weeks ago.

i prefer facing the consequences of my actions. this helps me get better and become more responsible

I too weigh everyday I am home, first thing, write it down, and don't worry about it again until the end of the week when I log it on CC, and the end of the month when I log the entire month in an Excel SS that calculates my daily deficit which I then compare to my daily intake from the analysis tools on CC.

This helps me avoid the "magical thinking" that used to plague me when I only weighed once a week (WW) or the "state of denial" where I avoided controlling my intake and weighing for 23 years.

By "magical thinking" I mean that with limited weigh-ins I sometimes lose weight even if I haven't been "good" for a few days so I think that something has changed.  Then, if I don't lose weight when I have been "good" I am depressed.  Daily weigh-ins allow me to account for my cycle and water retention, and gives me a better trend line so that even when I am on a plateau I see the trend line going down, which comforts me.

I think that everyone knows about states of denial, although I hope that most people don't wait 23 years to come to grips with a 5-6 pound per year gain like I did!

My advice to the OP is to make a plan that she can really live with, and then stick to it.  So, if she wants to weigh once a week, then do it.  If 3 times a week, then do that, etc.  And, if the plan isn't working, then change it not for just one day, but try a completely new plan.
