I checked out the hungry girl site.. and OMG
I MUST have the "chili cheese fries"!!!! I WILL have them, this very weekend. I bet they are amazing, and not expensive or time consuming to make, either.

Would you believe the number of calories in an order of real chili cheese fries?! That is what I always used to have at Krystal.
Thanks for showing me that site, Sarah! I'm excited about trying these "fries"!
I know! I looove that site! The book is really great too. There are lots of recipes obviously, but there are also tips for what to do when you're out and stuff too. Very helpful. She also has recipes for low cal alcoholic drinks, which is nice if you ever drink cocktails because they can be very high calorie!
Last night I made her chocolate cheesecake bites...Hungry Girl - Friday Newsletter
oh my gosh they were sooo good, and only 40 calories for two!
Yeah, but it is amazing how many calories are in a lot of the things I used to order at fast food places...especially cheeseburgers...oh my goodness...sooo high calorie...pretty much more than I need to eat in a day.
I want to try her version of the bloomin onion, but I'm a little nervous about covering it in Fiber One...
Well, I did it! Sort of.
I left work so excited to go to the store and get the stuff I needed for my chili cheese fries! Two grocery stores and a fruit/veggie stand later, I learned that butternut squash is not in season. All anyone had was regular yellow squash, which would end up soggy.
So I improvised. I used some "hot fries" that we had around the house. They are the same texture as "veggie fries" or "veggie stix". They are not as low cal as squash by far, but they aren't terrible at 150 cals per serving.
It was absolutely delicious. It totaled 360 calories before I added 1/2 an avocado. I forget how much the avocado was but it has a buttload of calories, like 140 or 160 for one half of an avocado.
The vegetarian chili was $2.59 for one can, which was kinda steep, BUT I only used half a can, which makes it not so bad.
veg chii- 150 (1/2 can)
hot fries - 150 (1 cup)
fat free shredded cheese- 50 (1/4 cup)
fat free sour cream- 10 (1 tablespoon)
My stomach is content, my calories are in check, and my taste buds are ecstatic! This one gets an A+!!! I must try it in the wintertime when butternut squash is available.
Hey im Yaz. omg i love hungry girl, im on it all the time! but ive nevr made a recipe because i live in england its hard to get any of the ingredients that she uses! x x
I had the same problem when I made these. Butternut squash simply was not in season and no where to be found. That is why I substituted the "hot fries". I did finally get to try it with the squash, though, and it was absolutely yummy. But I had to wait a bit for them to come into season.
