Is cheese bad for you? Should I stop eating it?

I haven't been eating ANY cheese for about a month now because I know it's really fatty and high in calories. Even when I go out to eat, I'm scared to get a grilled cheese.  Please tell me as much as you can about cheese and how much/how often I should be eating it.

Answer

Cheese has good and bad points.  It is packed with protein, calcium and vitamin A, which is good, but it is loaded with saturated fat, calories and sodium, which is not good.  Some cheeses are available in low-fat and fat-free versions, which retain the good nutrients while reducing the calories and, sometimes, the taste as well.  You can eat fat-free cheese everyday if you’d like, but full-fat cheese should be factored into your total intake of high saturated fat foods, like red meat and ice cream, and your portion should be small.
