Because cheese is very high in calories, fat and salt the recommendation for good health is to get about an ounce a day, tops.  Like all high calorie foods, if you're on a reduced calorie diet, it just means you have fewer calories with which to create a balanced diet.

My suggestion would be to alternate cheese with other foods so that you're getting the best nutritional bang for your buck.  And also use the strongest-flavoured cheese you can find so that a little goes a long way.

As long as you stay within your calories for the day, you can pretty much have anything you want, but I'd stick with the low-fat cheese if I were you since it's better to have healthier fats like peanut butter.  Just remember that when you want to have something with a higher calorie content, you have to allow for it either with exercise or consuming less calories at other meals.  That said, I've been know to indulge in a cheesy treat now and then.  It helps to keep us from getting frustrated during our journey.  Good luck!

There's different opinions on this for sure, but personally, I refuse to conceive of cheese as something that is bad for me.  Human beings have eaten cheese for hundreds (thousands? No idea when it was invented lol) of years.  It is a whole food.  As long as you don't eat the processed crap, and don't overdo it, I say eat up.  If you're concerned, take a look at your daily saturated fat.  General rules say that no more than 24 grams for most adult women, but dieters should aim for 18-20 or less.  So, as long as you're not eating too many other saturated fat sources, you should be fine!  I eat at least 1 ounce of cheese daily, and keep an eye on my saturated fat levels.  Your total is what matters there, just like with the cals!

cheese lovers unite!  haha...

ye i do use it as a flavouring really, a topping etc.

apart from the odd occasion if we have a get together or something n we have cheese and biscuits, OMG yumm lol-i so worship cheese.

i have normal cheddar, low fat cream cheeses, cottage cheese....pretty much any type.

sometimes il go for week or two without it and then others il have it everyday, right now im goin thru mega cravings for it and altho i do limit my intake to 1oz - occasionally 2oz i just wated to check that it was ok to do so?

i dont eat any other high saturated fatty foods on a daily basis, i normally have cereal or ryvita and mashed bana then chicken or fish with salad or veg and the same again for tea really but obviously different to the dinner time.

snacks are mostly fruit, fresh or frozen and occasionally il have a diet/low fat/kcal treat such as kitkat, weightwatchers cake etc....all around 100kcals

I LOVE cabot 75% reduced fat cheddar.....It is white cheddar, so I use it on pizza and in pasta dishes. It is very yummy!

i eat 2 or 3 ounces a day within my 1600 cals and am maintaining. it cant be that bad. i dont usually drink  milk or yogurt every day so i count it as a dairy serving! and it especially cant be bad when i eat it over steamed broccoli or cauliflower!!!

I would die! I love cheese and have it at pretty much every meal, as well as snacks.

I LOVE cheese. I eat AT LEAST 1 oz of cheese a day, I just make sure keep it within my alloted calories.

Most of the time, though, I try to eat Reduced Fat cheese (NOT fat free) made with 2% milk if I'm using it as an ingredient because the flavor difference is not as obvious. If it's a snack, I go for the regular stuff.

I adore cheese, and pre February 2009 I enjoyed cheese every day (the more exotic, smelly and expensive the better).  Unfortunately my love of cheese (together with dark chocolate and red wine) eventually caught up with me leading to not only obesity but gall bladder disease.

Sadly, I can no longer enjoy cheese or chocolate without significant pain.  The fear of this pain is enough to keep me away from these beloved treats.  I still enjoy visiting my local cheese provedore and simply looking at (and inhaling) the wonderful products (I clearly have a problem!).

As a cheese lover (and victim), I would recommend you limit your cheese consumption to the occasional small portion of the best cheese you can afford.

Good luck!
