The Cheetos Diet: Calories Created Equal

Quote  |  Reply

it's not the healthiest diet, but if calories are equal (100 calories from a large apple are the same as 100 calories from small handful of m&m's) then you could lose weight eating junk.

i am currently on 1400 ish calories. and realised i would be eating less calories and indulging in my favourite food by eating 4 packs of cheetos a day! Laughing

a cheetos diet is absolutely not healthy, but for a short term fix and to make sure calories remain under 1400 i would do it for a few days.has anyone also

i think if you ate 1400 calories of cheetos, you'd be pretty hungry at the end of the day.  or really sick of cheetos :)

and in the longterm, probably malnourished (like you mentioned) ;)

Ummm.... will you be adding nonfat milk and fruit to your Cheerios? (Carefully measured and logged, of course) .... that at least would make this a wee bit more healthy.

P.S. You might try Kashi Go Lean instead of Cheerios .... more good stuff in it.

(And take a good multivitamin, ok?)

lol...well, your example is an extreme one but yes, from a weight loss perspective it can be done.

I eat 'junk' all the time.  I'm not advocating that, i'm just saying it's what I do.

While this may sound fun and all, this is not the best idea.

A calorie may equal a calorie, yes.. but a diet is not consumed around calories only. You need fat, protein, carbs and they should come from foods that contain vitamin and minerals to nourish your system.

Cheetos can fit into a balanced diet quite easily. They even make them in 100 calorie packs!

So while you may lose weight with this method, you may also feel super sick, dizzy, get the sweats, weaken your immune system, your hair will start falling out, etc. Bottom line is you will become mal nourished eating cheetos as your soul form of food. So try to reconsider your plans.

Molly, cheetos and cheerios - big difference, haha.

That is some severe punishment to your body, almost no daily minerals or vitamins, barely any protein and such a high fat diet - I think even short term, my face would break out.  Plus I can imagine the hunger issues surviving on such compact calories in 4 bags of chips.

I eat a lot of the same foods but one item non stop, even I would burn out on it.  A real reminder why they call it junk food.

Cant say I havent done some unhealthy things but ouch!

Oh, my bad. I thought she said Cheerios.

Oh well, time for bed for me.

maybe 1 pack a day, but i need more variety.  i like calorie counting because i can choose whatever food i want as the mood strikes me
Well, good luck with that! You'll feel starving in no time! Not a fun diet.
sure i calorie is a calorie number wise but this website isn't just about losing weight. it's about learning how to achieve a healthy lifestyle. cheetos are fine to have every once in a while or maybe for lunch with your sandwich but in the right amounts. four bags a day is a little extreme. there are those people who can eat whatever they want and not gain weight but they are still getting poor nutrtition and are still setting themselves up for an early grave. just be wise in your food choices. start by leaving out one bag a day for a week until you work up to being content with one bag of cheetos a day. instead eat something more nutritious for that bag you took out.
Before I thought the same thing. A calorie is a calorie but think about it.  If you want to have 500 calories for a lunch meal... then which one do you think is better.  A Cheeseburger (I dont know how many calories it really is but its just an example) or a turkey sandwich with some soup? Both will be 500 calories but one is a little bit healthier then the other because of the fat intake and sodium etc etc

If that was the case then I would eat Chipotle once a day! Their burrito is 1300 calories and I would just split it up in two meals.

But its just not that easy lol.

GOod luck if you try that diet...you'll be starving all but 2 hours of the day!

What  I find that works way better is to eat at least 2 or 3 healthy, but possibly smaller meals during the day so I can indulge in a treat at night.  Take last night for example (okay, so on weekends I do splurge more on 'crap' than on weekdays): I had consumed about 1100 cals worth of good healthy food, then I exercised my butt off for 50 minutes and enjoyed a delicious singler portion of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, some 90 cal O'coco's Mocha crisps, and a snickers marathon bar (one of those sad excuses for a 'protein bar'...).  It was yummy! haha

So, go a head and indulge in your cheetos, but really please do eat some healthy things in there...your body and mind will love you much more for it!

I guess when you try it you will find out how you feel.  Nothing anybody says here will be as effective as your own experience!  Oh, I wouldn't plan anything important while you do this.

Let us know your secret on how to keep your fingers from getting stained the tell tale orange.

Dong similar math, you could make 1400 calories eating 5 butterfinger candy bars a day.  At today's pre-halloween prices, that would cost $1.67/day, so it's not an expensive diet. It would be a very low protein diet free of vitamins and fiber, but not out of bounds on fat, carbs or sodium.   Not healthy, but healthier than eating straight cheetos.

In Super Size Me, there's a long interview with a prison guard who has eaten nothing but 2 Big Macs a day for years.  He looks pretty healthy.  His Big Mac monodiet looks to be a better choice than cheetos or butterfingers - lots more protein, some fresh vegetables, much lower sugar.
I understood that certain foods block fat cells in our body, from releasing fat, while other food enhance the ability.

Also some foods make us feel full longer.

Also, somefoods give us energy to feel more active.

some foods have more fiber which helps our body to shed extra fat.

(now I'm hungry for Cheetos.)
That is true. A cal is a cal. BUT if you only eat high fructose corn syrup you dont feel full. And if you only eat cheetos, then you're not getting proper nutrition SO YOUR BODY DOESNT WORK AS EFFECTIVLY = you burn less cals.
So yes, have your treats, but make your snacks healthy. Have as many cheetos as you want within your cal limits BUT make sure you have proper nutrition too.
maybe for one day...but for a long time the cheetos "diet" sounds whack.
I would rather not. I'd be so drained. But whatever floats your boat. : )

I have had days where all my calories come from junk.  Ugh. I tend to do the wine and Drumstick icecream cones path, but I wouldn't turn down puffy cheetos.  I do feel pretty icky and disgusted with myself when I do that!

A calorie is a calorie.  However, foods are chemicals and do react differently in the body.  Try reading "You on a Diet."  It talks about how different foods affect the hormones in the body.
