I'm looking at getting a CHI Turbo 1.5 inch digital ceramic flat iron for my birthday at the end of this month. Anyone have one?? Are the worth the money? I have thick naturally curly hair now and I spend about $155 every 6-8 months on some kind of asian straighter that's applied in a salon. I haven't been able to afford one in about a year so I thought this might be a good alternative. I know once my hair gets wet it'll go back to the curl but it takes me FOREVER to dry it in the mornings and then I use this crapy flat iron to try to straighten it out more.
Any feed back on this product would be great. Everything I find online is very positive but you never know if its true consumers or just people that work for the company.
Thanks!
I have a CHI flat iron and I LOVE it! I'm mad at myself for not getting it sooner haha
I heard the CHI works super awesome and then suddenly breaks/malfunctions very quickly , and that the Sedu is better.
I think follica.com has tons of reviews on them, check that out first! I personally have a Sedu and it's been going well.
I've read that a few times, about them breaking, thats what worries me. Thought, I'd get some real reviews. I'll check out the Sedu as well
Thanks

Sign up with folica.com and they send you coupons like every other day for CHI stuff and everything else for that matter
Dang Spiro you got all the sweet beauty hook ups...
You should start a non-ranty beauty hook-ups thread :D
Oh - in answer to the OP - I got a regular old revlon ceramic flat iron - unfortunately I have absolutely no friggin' idea how to make my hair look the way it did the day I got it cut!
I've had my CHI for like 2 years, and it's the best thing I ever did for my hair. Seriously. My hair gets all sorts of unruly, and the CHI not only is the only thing I've found that can style it well (like salon quality straight), but it's fast. I can use bigger chunks of hair, and I can go from frizzy blow-dried mess to straight and sleek in like 20 minutes. Of course my hair is pretty short so people with longer hair might have to spend a bit more time, but I highly recommend the CHI all the same! :-)
I've had 2 Chi's that both lasted just slightly longer than a full year and then quit working. I didn't fold the cords on either of them or mistreat them in anyway.
They just plain and simple quit working. I now use a Conair that I found in Target and I'll have to post the model on here, it was about $70 but I've had it well more than a year and it's IMO better than the CHI.
awesome thank you for all of your replies. I think the CHI will be my pick...I just HOPE it doesn't break. I'm using a pretty crappy one now and I'm so sick of it. I did sign up on the folica.com website, so maybe I'll get some good coupons. Overstock.com has the one I'm interested in for like 120 i think.
I used to think CHI was the best until I read the reviews, seems they're produced faster these days so the quality has come down. I just got the Solia, if it wasn't for the currency exchange rate I'd have gone for the Sedu (well and I liked the blue/black of the Solia :P), plus the free shipping didn't apply to Canada, so it just added up to too much. But try it out I guess, I mean all these brand straighteners have broken on someone, so the CHI you get might be fine. Personally I'd get the Sedu out of all of them if money wasn't an issue.

and I don't know how to start a non-rant thread :'(
I've changed my mind, I'm going with the Sedu 1 1/2 inch..looks like it works better in humidity and i live in Alabama. It has a 30 day trial on it so if I don't like it I can send it back.
I have relatively straight hair, but it curls up some and it's wonky that way. I used my friend's CHI one day and it was straight for two days entirely even after sleeping on it. :] I really want to buy one eventually.
I have the sedu 1 1/2 inch and LOVE it. I opted for it over the chi b/c the chi i was looking at that was comparable in price didn't have a heat dial and i guess only had one heat setting which seemed odd to me. The new sedus (i'm looking to upgrade after 2 yrs w/ mine) have some tapered edges that help prevent hair from sliding of the ends as well as make curling ends easier. I hope you like yours!
No no no. No CHI. Theyre horrible and break so fast.
Get a Solia (I'm in love with mine) or a sedu!
They are freaking overpriced. You can get a ton of differant brands that do just as good if not better as Chi. I have a BabylissPRO which is a high end salon brand and it was like 60 bucks. It is AWESOME
Chi's are very good straighteners, especially for your hair type. Chi's work great for thicker hair because they have no heat dial(thinner hair usually needs one). The only flaw is that they do not leave your hair as shiny as some of the other straighteners I have tried(such as the sedu). They are also made pretty cheap. The plates are high quality, but the rest of the straightener seems to be made pretty poorly, however with good care any straightener will hold up. I haven't tried a babyliss but I would recommend a chi or sedu before it-they're in the top ten rated for a reason, they work pretty well and overall you get your money's worth.
