chicken schawarma calories

Quote  |  Reply
i love this one middle eastern restaurant on my campus but i can't get the cals. It is a special type of chicken schawarma basically made the same but instead of wrapped in a pita, it has rice on the plate. It looks very balanced because the plate has a rice, veggies (peas, carrots, corn), and chicken. THe plate is about medium sized. I usually use cucumber salad with it as well but not a lot. I know the chicken must be cooked with olive oil and there is some red hot type sauce over the chicken. Anyone middle eastern or work at a place like this know the estimation of cals?
ps-I usually have some lentil soup before my meal, I don't eat this meal all the time but i like it as a treat :)

hmm strange the chicken shouldn't be fried.... it should be thinly sliced from that rotisserie thing - metal broach. the normal shaworma (kebap) recipe should have around 100 g rice (pilaf) - i'd put down 3 oz if i were you - how manny tablespoons of rice are there ? (if u give me an aprox no i can give u an aprox weight

grams in chicken shouldn't excceed 100... it's usually 100-120 g rice and around 70-80 chicken (they normally use bonelesss skinless breast) - i'd put it down as grilled if they follow the right recipe.

I donno what carrots peas and corn have to do with shaworma: it shoud be pickled cucumbers onions and optionally cabbage :), but that doesn't change the cal count too much - original may be lighter

of course in it's original wraped resipe it has 10 -15 g french fries but for the plate type it's usually rice

and last: sauces: turkish kebap has ketchup and mayonesse/ garlic sauce

is your red hot sauce thick , rather creamy? or more liquid? go with hot hetchup if liquid, choose one that has around 90-100 cal/100g - can't be more than 25g-30g /serving and if u consider it's definetly thicker than mcdonalds ketchup let's say try a toamto hot dip or something at around 150 cal/100g.

if u have 80 g chicken 100 g rice 150 g vegetables and 25 sauce it's around  550-600/serving

there is also a whitish sauce in it too, the red sauce is thin and the white sauce is a little bit thicker but it's not completely drenched in the stuff either. I wish i could give u an estimate in grams but i have no idea how to eye that stuff. I would assume it to be 600 as well, that's what i guessed. If i do have it one day ,I usually eat something very light for dinner or save half of it for later just in case my estimate is off, thanks for the help!
White stuff is olive oil and garlic whipped up.  Basically a homemade garlic mayo.

yup, i agree spoiled candy.

paro, put it down with 600 it should cover. good kuck and ENJOY YOUR MEAL! ;)

You can always ask the person serving to give you an idea of the main ingredients and their amounts. Chicken/turkey in oz or gr; #cups rice; what's the main ingredient in the sauces. Restaurants usually don't mind telling you their serving sizes for the main ingredients, it's the recipes they don't give out.

Oh if I'm correct the red sauce could be a simple hot pepper sauce popular in the middle east.
