I just did a chin up!

Quote  |  Reply

First one ever, and the first of many to come. On July 19, I was tempted into buying my chin up bar by a completely misinformed sports store salesman, but that's another story.

It's been a little over 3 months, but at 6:02 AM this morning, I finally did it. I'll take this opportunity to say this: If I can do it, you can do it too. There's been some discussion about chin/pull ups already on this forum, but I'll throw some links around a bit if anyone's interested.

Ladies, You Can Conquer the Pull-Up

Now, I admit to not actually following most of the advice in those articles. I simply did a two or three sets of 5-6 negative chin ups along with my regular barbell workout three times a week, along with a negative here and there every day while passing through my bedroom door frame. Sometimes I just dropped into a dead hang and pulled myself as high up as possible.

Let me just tell you this: doing a chin up is EXTREMELY satisfying.

Whoo hoo!

Some day, I will too.

Congrats!  I have been trying to accomplish a chin up -- even a proper negative -- as part of the NROLFW program.  I am finishing up Stage 6, where we are supposed to do negatives.  Because I was unable to keep my body stable on the regular bar, I started doing them on the Assisted Pull-Up machine, and I was certainly able to make improvements, but just not quite enough to do it without any assistance at all (30 lbs of assistance was the best I could accomplish).  I WILL keep working on it -- it's one of those things that just nags at you until you do it :).

Again, congrats on the accomplishment -- for most women, it IS a real accomplishment!

Congratulations!!! that is my ultimate goal. That is the reason why I took up lifting. Hopefully I'll be able to share the same accomplishment with you all.

That's awesome, and to echo amethystgirl, someday I will do a chinup too!  Soon, I hope.

Congrats!!!!!  I am sooooo jealous.   This is a goal of mine.

Keep it up-next week you could have 2 or 3!!!!

Congratulations, what an amazing accomplishment.  I have been doing assisted chinups at the gym but I am now inspired to get a bar for at home.  Maybe like you, I will just feel compelled to "give it a go" as I walk through my door!!!

Again I am so happy for youLaughing

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Seems like all of you have this as a goal - keep at it, and tell us all when you get there!

Congrats! I did my first chin-up over a year ago & love them. Worked up by doing body rows on a Smith machine since there's no assisted machine at my gym. I've fallen away from them, but was able to do 2 sets of 5 last night after an intense boot camp class. Hooray!

Keep on pulling!

i did negatives every day for weeks, and on the 22nd day, i did a full pullup, wide grip, palms away.  now i can do sets of 5, sometimes 6.  it feels awesome.  it's an unbeatable upper body workout.  i mean, you're lifting over a hundred pounds w/each rep.  doing the negatives gave me incredible back definition.

congratulations, ankow, i know how happy you must be.
