Quote  |  Reply
So, chocolate is usually my downfall. I crave it probably 5 or more times a day. I know its not really good to deny yourself food but its not like your supposed to eat everything you crave everyday. Im gonna see if i can go 1 day with out 1 bite of chocolate. I think so far today i havent eaten any. Im gonna see how many days i can go with out chocolate after that one day. wish me luck! any other chocaholics  want to do this with me?

snickers are orgasmicly scrumptious! :þ & heyyyy, hershey does not taste like candle wax at all! hershey kisses are like little drops of heaven to me. omg i'm already drooling.

but anyhoos, i've only eaten a few bites of chocolate ever since late feb & i think i can live without chocolate now. :]
I don't see the point in giving chocolate up altogether.  Chocolate, after all, is nectar of the gods.

I'm not an addict; I can stop anytime I want.  You're not the boss of me.
I tried giving up chocolate.  And then I discovered something:  I must eat chocolate to live like I need oxygen.  Slight exaggeration, of course.  Anyway, I've managed to cut my chocolate consumption WAY down.  I eat two pieces of expensive European chocolate a day.  I used to eat cheap crap all day, every day.  And after a couple of weeks of this I noticed something amazing.  My tastebuds are now a lot more sensitive to other kinds of sweetnees.  I ate some strawberries for the first time since last season and I just about exploded....they tasted absolutely divine.  I never used to have that kind of reaction.  I think cutting back on chocolate (probably sweets, in general) enables you to enjoy natural sweets much more and that, I think, will keep future chocolate binges at bay for me.
:( I wish I could have some chocolate. I cant because it has caffiene and I'm on beta blockers.
Hershey's now makes 100 calorie bars!!  (And they DO NOT use paraffin in their chocolate).
Coming from a girl that grew up in Germany- Hershey's may not actually put Paraffin in their chocolate, but it sure tastes like it.  I have to give them credit, though, for coming out with a much higher end chocolate (can't remember the name at the moment!).  I used to refuse to eat Hershey's but they are getting their act together.  Though I still say that Kisses and the old fashioned Hershey bars are crimes against humanity and all remaining stock should be incinerated.  :P
Don't know where all this Hershey-bashing is coming from.  Although I'd bet many manufacturers use parrafin in their decorative chocolates (whichever continent they're on), parrafin is not a listed ingredient on the basic Hershey bar or the chocolate w/ almonds bar or the special dark bar (just checked in the downstairs convenience store).

Hershey's was the first company that figured out how to mass produce and distribute chocolate on a large scale, not some hoity-toity, snob-nosed European chocolatier (USA! USA!).  The secret?  Use sour milk (which is why you hear that Hershey's chocolate is sour from connoisseurs), which helps preserve the chocolate over long distances.

Those European self-proclaimed connoisseurs are just green with envy that they couldn't figure it out despite centuries of experience with chocolate, and that Milton Hershey actually toured Europe to see what their methods were and used such against them, and quite effectively to boot (until a family operation called Mars popped up...).  In short:  Sour grapes.

Read the book "The Emperors of Chocolate" by Joel Brenner for more info (although it's rather incomplete since it only focuses on Hershey and Mars).
When you're from Europe, Hersheys tastes bad. That's all. If you grow up with it, it's probably your preference.

There's plenty of European stuff Americans can't appreciate (salty licorice anyone?) and there's plenty American stuff I can't stand. Rootbeer is disgusing, the first time I had mini wheats.. ew (love 'em now), cocktail sauce/horse radish.. I just can't stomach that stuff.

It's really what you grow up with.

HAHA OMG i've had those dreams too, where i ate all this fattening food in my dream and then i woke up feeling sooo guilty, and then i suddenly realized and had to reassure myself it was just a dream.

I only will eat a chocolate bar that is a) VERY VERY dark and expensive, like a brand from Europe, or b) unsweetened

Actually, though, some even 80-90% chocolates taste like milk to me =[

i can barely ever go a day without chocolate Tongue out

I didn't know chocolate was such an issue =\ Poor little cocoa bean. Dark chocolate is amazing. It helps with PMS for me. I could never step away from the Dove bag around that time of month. I need it to stay sane.

I'd just like to bring in an article I read the other day:

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/07/ 06/eco.chocolate/index.html

So eat it now!! ;)
